Man and his mother charged with firearm offences over police officer death

A man charged with the murder of police officer Brevet Sergeant Jason Doig and the accused's mother, have been charged with firearm offences.

00:36 The court heard the firearm offence came to light during police investigations into the

00:40 death of Sergeant Doig.

00:42 The 53-year-old was shot and killed while responding to a report of the use of a firearm

00:48 involving an animal at a rural property at Senior in the state's south east in November

00:53 last year.

00:55 Another police officer, Sergeant Michael Hutchinson was also shot and injured.

00:59 The alleged shooter, 26-year-old Jaden Stimpson, was shot by police and taken to hospital with

01:08 He's currently being detained at James Nash House.

01:11 He's being assessed as to his mental competence at the time.

01:15 That's being done quite carefully for fairly obvious reasons.

01:19 Mr Graham said Ms Stimpson was devastated.

01:22 They come from a fairly small community in the country and it's been extremely upsetting

01:27 for them and I know that she's very upset by what occurred.

01:30 The court heard that both Jaden Stimpson and his mother had firearms licences which have

01:35 since been suspended.

01:37 He's due to appear in court next month on the charge relating to the alleged murder

01:41 of Sergeant Doig.

01:43 The firearm matter will return to the Adelaide Magistrates Court in May.
