00:00 Jaden Harley Stimpson and his mother Lynette Stimpson have now been charged with an offence
00:07 related to acquiring or supplying a firearm.
00:10 They weren't required to appear in court, but their lawyer Andrew Graham told the magistrate
00:15 the charge did not relate to the firearm used in the alleged murder of police officer Brevet
00:21 Sergeant Jason Doig.
00:23 The allegations with respect to Mrs Stimpson, they relate to allegations that she didn't
00:28 transfer ownership of a firearm following the correct procedure and I can let you know
00:32 that that's not the firearm that was allegedly used in the murder.
00:36 The court heard the firearm offence came to light during police investigations into the
00:40 death of Sergeant Doig.
00:42 The 53-year-old was shot and killed while responding to a report of the use of a firearm
00:48 involving an animal at a rural property at Senior in the state's south east in November
00:53 last year.
00:55 Another police officer, Sergeant Michael Hutchinson was also shot and injured.
00:59 The alleged shooter, 26-year-old Jaden Stimpson, was shot by police and taken to hospital with
01:05 life-threatening injuries.
01:08 He's currently being detained at James Nash House.
01:11 He's being assessed as to his mental competence at the time.
01:15 That's being done quite carefully for fairly obvious reasons.
01:19 Mr Graham said Ms Stimpson was devastated.
01:22 They come from a fairly small community in the country and it's been extremely upsetting
01:27 for them and I know that she's very upset by what occurred.
01:30 The court heard that both Jaden Stimpson and his mother had firearms licences which have
01:35 since been suspended.
01:37 He's due to appear in court next month on the charge relating to the alleged murder
01:41 of Sergeant Doig.
01:43 The firearm matter will return to the Adelaide Magistrates Court in May.
