00:00 Well, Miami may be the destination, but it's the Homestead Miami Speedway circuit, most
00:09 commonly the home of NASCAR.
00:11 That is the first venue of what feels like the start of something very, very special
00:17 in triathlon.
00:18 And
00:46 there is a lot of people here.
00:53 There are a lot of people here.
01:03 And it's really good to see her giving a crack.
01:17 Lucy Charles Barclay has just exited ahead of Lucy Buckingham.
01:20 They were swimming hard.
01:22 You could tell it when you were looking at them really close.
01:24 They were swimming very hard.
01:25 This gap has grown.
01:26 Sarah Perez-Seller is just about to get to the Aussie exodus whale.
01:30 The chase group with Sky Munch and Holly Lawrence and India Lee.
01:35 They've almost caught a coral finlay still in the back of that group too.
01:39 So here we have...
01:40 Yeah, to see her leading the second pack that strongly, I think is...
01:45 I'll put that down to coach Julie Dibbins.
01:47 She started swimming with Julie and there's a very good swim group.
01:51 When you're in a really nice swim group, Jan, it really helps, right?
01:54 Yeah, definitely.
01:55 I mean, swimming is one of those sports.
01:57 It can be lonely.
01:58 Let's be honest, depending if you're swimming in a 25 or a 50 meter pool.
02:02 Right on to chasing the two Lucys and perfect situation for someone like India Lee, who's
02:07 a really strong runner as well as being a great cyclist.
02:10 So I mean, probably a position that's a little ahead of where a lot of people would have
02:15 expected to see her and Paula Finlay playing out perfectly for those two as well.
02:21 Jackie teased it a little bit there.
02:23 It was...
02:24 And let's see how much strength Lucy Buckingham is going to have because it looks like Lucy
02:30 Charles-Barclay is putting the hammer down early.
02:37 It looks like she's going to have to do most of the work by herself.
02:40 You can see in her face, she's intent, she's focused, she's wanting to get out the front.
02:44 She hasn't even bothered rolling down her sleeves yet.
02:47 As you can see, she's got them slightly rolled up, which is advantageous for the swim, just
02:53 to give your shoulders a little bit more breathing room.
02:55 But you want that fabric from the aerodynamic suit down as close to your elbows as possible,
03:01 simply because that's where you get the aerodynamic advantages.
03:05 That could come into play.
03:06 That could be a part of the storyline here is maybe Emma Pallant-Brown, this could be
03:13 the temperature that she needs to have success.
03:16 Ranging from a minute 11 to a minute 17 for the top 10 athletes.
03:23 Again, thanks to Garmin for helping us with T1.
03:26 The line, your husband can go and have a beer, then that's a great option.
03:30 Yeah, Mark Matthews renowned for having a few beers during the race, keeping it light.
03:35 But Kat Matthews now taking the lead of that trio, Paula Finlay in the second spot in that.
03:41 She just wants to go to her limits, sometimes beyond.
03:45 And that's why she deserves to be here.
03:46 Back to your point, Jack, she just, yeah, in my opinion, she thoroughly deserves a spot.
03:53 She's a light in the scene of triathlon.
03:55 I think she's someone who impacts the sport.
03:57 And I think that's what we're looking for.
03:59 What did I call it?
04:00 Smile?
04:01 Kat Matthews.
04:02 It was a suffering kind of smile.
04:05 But you can see she's enjoying because she knows every time it hurts her, it's hurting
04:10 the others more, which is, of course, a quote from the great Sebastian Kienle.
04:16 If it hurts me, it's killing them.
04:19 And it feels like Kat Matthews is here and actually enjoying herself.
04:24 That's the spirit.
04:25 That's what we like to see.
04:26 The volunteers that run with the athletes, we praise you because that helps so much.
04:31 Like even just jogging alongside rather than the straight arm.
04:34 The straight arm, you see that and you're like, that's a broken arm waiting to happen.
04:38 And me going over the handlebars.
04:42 The final two laps of the bike, which is inside of 8.5 kilometers and out in front, it's Lucy
04:50 Charles Barclay.
04:52 Out of the race after having a really phenomenal start, Lucy Buckingham, after food poisoning
04:58 over the past couple of days, she said her legs just couldn't go anymore.
05:03 It almost is a bit funny in a way.
05:06 Apart from Jarned, his German race, I've never seen this in triathlon before.
05:12 Trust me, no one ever saw that race.
05:14 It was a long way away from civilization.
05:17 Probably a momentary pause to make sure.
05:20 Front stretch again.
05:21 And so we could definitely see quite a bit better here.
05:26 And seeing that Paula Finlay has actually decided to stay at the back, she didn't come
05:30 around Holly Lawrence to get onto Kat Matthews and Lucy Barham just in case Holly Lawrence
05:34 couldn't stay on.
05:35 She's decided to maintain her position at the back of this group and conserve and not
05:40 ride aggressively like Rinny said we're used to seeing her do.
05:52 You mentioned these two, Lucy Charles Barclay and India Lee.
05:56 That gap still about four seconds between the top two.
06:00 And then back to Kat Matthews.
06:03 Back up to to Lucy Charles Barclay.
06:06 And I don't know if she'll go past.
06:07 It will be interesting to see.
06:09 I think she'll probably roll up to Lucy Charles Barclay and then just sit.
06:14 It's half a lap now.
06:15 So it's time to start thinking about the run.
06:20 I can definitely tell like from this kind of like from experience, this kind of position
06:24 where he's in.
06:26 It's hard because you're trying to close the gap and you're trying to get aerodynamic.
06:30 You're trying to be as efficient as possible.
06:32 But I think it's going to be a good run.
06:33 I think it's going to be a good run.
06:34 I think it's going to be a good run.
06:35 I think it's going to be a good run.
06:36 I think it's going to be a good run.
06:37 I think it's going to be a good run.
06:38 I think it's going to be a good run.
06:39 I think it's going to be a good run.
06:40 I think it's going to be a good run.
06:41 I think it's going to be a good run.
06:42 I think it's going to be a good run.
06:43 I think it's going to be a good run.
06:44 I think it's going to be a good run.
06:45 I think it's going to be a good run.
06:46 I think it's going to be a good run.
06:47 I think it's going to be a good run.
06:48 I think it's going to be a good run.
07:14 I think it's going to be a good run.

08:17 I think it's going to be a good run.
08:18 I think it's going to be a good run.
08:19 I think it's going to be a good run.
08:47 >> We know that Lucy Charles-Barclay has a history of when someone runs up to her, it
08:53 actually makes her dig deeper and fight hard for it.
08:55 >> Fingers crossed she continues to have a good race.
08:58 Thank you so much for chatting to us.
08:59 >> Thank you.
09:00 >> Thank you.
09:01 Right, guys, back to you.
09:02 I can see lots happening at the front.
09:05 >> Definitely a lot happening.
09:08 And right now a new leader for the women as India Lee has gone by Lucy Charles-Barclay.
09:15 We'll see if Lucy will tack on to the back here of India Lee and what she has left.
09:21 >> Wow.
09:22 Did you see the aggression she put into that?
09:24 I mean, her whole facial demeanor changed as she came close.
09:28 She really made sure to try and get a little surge to hopefully not take Lucy with her.
09:33 And this is the first time we've seen a change at the top of the leader board.
09:36 >> Looking into the crystal ball.
09:38 >> But Lucy Byram here only, what, 20, 30 seconds behind Paula.
09:45 It's within striking distance.
09:47 And if Paula's not careful, Lucy Byram's going to come on by her.
09:53 >> Punching far above her weight.
09:54 It's the rising of a new star.
09:56 And I think what a time to do it.
09:57 You know, where the evolution of the sport is.
10:00 What a time to make a breakthrough over a winter and put your mark on the sport.
10:07 I mean, this is exciting.
10:09 It most definitely is that way.
10:12 I mean, it feels like, you know, it's an early stage of the season.
10:19 But certainly a dominating performance that could show us more for the upcoming races.
10:28 It most definitely is that way.
10:30 I mean, it feels like, you know, it's an early stage of the season.
10:37 But certainly a dominating performance that could show us more for the upcoming races.
10:43 >> Two laps to go.
10:46 >> Two laps to go.
10:47 And the gap we can see has gone out to over half a minute.
10:50 I mean, that is huge.
10:51 And now it's like you were saying, Rene, that, yeah, unless there's a mishap of some sort,
10:58 which we certainly don't wish upon anyone.
11:01 >> And again, announce Daniela Ryf.
11:05 This will be her final season.
11:06 She's looking forward to running as many of the T100 races as she can.
11:12 India Lee is looking forward to hearing a bell the next time when she gets to the finish
11:19 line area.
11:21 They will ring the bell because it will be one more lap around this track here at homestead
11:26 Miami speedway.
11:27 >> Let's finish it off.
11:32 Drinks are on you tonight.
11:34 >> She was able to take the top spot away from Lucy Charles Barkley on the run.
11:40 She surged.
11:41 We thought Lucy would be able to stay with her.
11:44 She wasn't able to.
11:46 The gap became over 30 seconds.
11:49 India Lee now making the turn.
11:53 She can't believe it.
11:55 >> You can't believe it.
11:59 I love that emotion coming in.
12:01 She's like -- >> India Lee looks back.
12:11 She won't see anyone.
12:19 >> This is just mind blowing for her.
12:20 I think coming in, I'm sure she dreamt of this.
12:24 You have to have had some belief that you could do this.
12:26 But to actually have it happen.
12:28 Especially as we said, no one picked India Lee to win.
12:31 The 35-year-old brick makes it on to the carpet.
12:36 She's giving the high fives.
12:39 She has just stunned the world.
12:42 India Lee is going to win the first ever T100.
12:46 It starts here at homestead Miami speedway.
12:50 She'll walk across and grab the banner.
12:53 India Lee wins T100.
12:55 >> A lot of emotion there.
13:00 >> Here comes second in Lucy Charles-Barkley.
13:06 Still a smile on her face.
13:08 She's thanking the fans for being there.
13:13 >> I think Lucy Charles-Barkley will be happy with that performance.
13:16 The second place is nothing to be ashamed of.
13:20 As we said, it's a long season.
13:21 A lot of racing ahead.
13:22 She led for a lot of that race and almost pulled off the victory.
13:30 >> She's a champion.
13:31 >> She's a champion.
13:32 >> She's a champion.
13:33 >> She's a champion.
13:33 (upbeat music)
