00:00 The number of Filipinos who have no job in the country has increased

00:03 according to the data of the Philippine Statistics Authority.

00:08 In the midst of high purchases and payments,

00:11 the number of Filipinos who have no job increased this January 2024.

00:16 The unemployment rate of January 2024 was 4.5%

00:20 compared to 4.2% in October 2023

00:24 according to the Labor Force Survey of the Philippine Statistics Authority.

00:27 According to the PSA, from 2.09 million in October,

00:31 the number of unemployed increased to 2.15 million.

00:36 The number of underemployed also increased

00:38 or those looking for additional work or additional hours of work

00:42 for additional income.

00:44 The PSA said that's because of the end of Christmas and New Year season

00:48 when there are a lot of rockets and sidelines.

00:51 We really have a seasonality.

00:52 So our employed persons increased in the fourth quarter

00:57 and decreased in the first quarter.

01:00 In the Labor Force participation in January 2024,

01:04 72.9% were men and 49.3% were women.

01:10 According to the historical data of the PSA,

01:12 the number of women who have jobs increased

01:15 if there are rockets or sidelines before Christmas.

01:18 It's increasing.

01:19 There are additional jobs.

01:21 Usually, when the number of jobs increases in the fourth quarter,

01:27 it will close to 53 to 55% due to seasonal jobs.

01:31 But when it's normal again, it will go back to 50%.

01:39 According to some of the women we talked to in a job fair in Pasay City,

01:43 it's really hard to find a job now.

01:46 But it's harder if you're a woman.

01:48 In the search of Deisibel, she noticed that she's looking for a small man,

01:53 even if the position is for housekeeping.

01:56 I'm just thinking why men are the only ones who need a man.

01:59 If a woman can do it.

02:02 Rhea suspects that she was not accepted to apply as a call center agent

02:06 because she has children.

02:08 Like last time, they asked me who will take care of your children if you're ever hired.

02:15 I said, "I have someone at home."

02:19 They still don't want to.

02:21 The Department of Labor and Employment is saying that

02:24 it's the prerogative of companies to choose who they will hire.

02:28 But there should be no discrimination.

02:31 If you're qualified, you shouldn't be dependent on hiring,

02:34 gender, status, or age.
