00:00 Hello, it's Angus here at the Bureau.
00:02 It is Friday, here's a look at your weekend weather,
00:04 and if you're in South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania,
00:06 or ACT, that is a long weekend weather for you.
00:10 And two stories are going to be controlling the headlines
00:12 through the course of this weekend.
00:14 Hot conditions across Southeastern Australia.
00:16 If you're in those long weekend places,
00:19 chances are you're getting a hot weekend elsewhere.
00:20 It is storms continuing for the North and the West.
00:23 Let's dive right in with the temperatures.
00:25 Saturday afternoons, maximum temperatures,
00:27 widespread high 30s and low 40s
00:29 through this area, including Adelaide and Melbourne,
00:32 which may see its warmest day of the summer so far,
00:35 although we are now technically into autumn.
00:37 30 degrees plus in Tasmania,
00:40 not quite as warm for coastal New South Wales,
00:42 upper 20s there, same story for Queensland, 29 Brisbane.
00:45 It's about average across the North,
00:47 and cooler than average for Southwestern Australia
00:49 on Saturday, but not too many complaints there
00:52 after what has been a very hot summer.
00:54 Now we'll look at the overnight minimum temperatures.
00:56 This is between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
00:59 We could see some records set for these very warm conditions.
01:02 25 degrees plus for much of South Australia and Victoria,
01:06 staying above 20 degrees all through the night
01:08 for parts of Tasmania as well.
01:10 Moving on now to Sunday's maximum temperatures,
01:13 no big changes, again, hot conditions through the centre,
01:16 the South and the South East.
01:18 Now we will see a slightly cooler day in Hobart,
01:19 this blue line being a weak cold front
01:21 which knocks a few degrees off the temperature there,
01:24 and even into Monday, no broad changes.
01:26 It's another hot day for South Australia,
01:28 Victoria, parts of Tasmania,
01:30 and inland parts of New South Wales and Queensland.
01:33 So with the three days in a row
01:35 of those really warm daytime temperatures
01:37 and nighttime temperatures,
01:38 we are breaching some heatwave thresholds,
01:40 including a broad area of the orange,
01:42 severe heatwave through South Australia
01:45 and down towards the country's South East too.
01:48 Heat is one of the main elements of elevated fire danger
01:51 across parts of Southeastern Australia,
01:53 a hot day with widespread high to extreme fire dangers
01:56 on Saturday and again on Sunday,
01:58 potentially another tough day for the crews
02:01 if any blazes do get going
02:04 through the course of this weekend.
02:06 Now that's enough of a focus on the heat for the South East,
02:08 let's jump into the rainfall forecast
02:10 across Australia this weekend.
02:12 A slow moving weather feature across southern WA
02:14 bringing persistent rain there to the goldfields
02:16 and the South East coast,
02:17 spotty shower and storm activity
02:19 all through this northern area,
02:21 including the Kimberley region.
02:22 Much drier for the eastern half of the country,
02:24 but we will see a few showers all along this coastline,
02:27 mostly north of Sydney.
02:29 Not a lot of rainfall,
02:30 but a few spits and spots of wet weather
02:32 for northern New South Wales and the Queensland coast.
02:34 Throw all that together onto the one map,
02:36 this is how it looks.
02:37 Broad, dry areas for eastern Australia,
02:40 a little bit of rain along this coast,
02:42 not a lot, but maybe five to 15 millimeters in places,
02:45 one or two spots might get more than that too,
02:47 that includes Brisbane
02:48 and all the way up to the north tropical coast,
02:50 but the real focus of rain this weekend
02:52 is on northern and western Australia.
02:55 A little zoom in here and we'll see a lot of places
02:58 are up and over 50 millimeters of rain
03:00 through the course of the weekend.
03:01 That's where we start to get the darker red contouring here
03:03 with a couple of spots way above that.
03:06 Few areas to watch,
03:07 firstly down here in the south of WA,
03:09 we could see 100 to 150 or possibly even more
03:12 in terms of millimeters down in that part of the country
03:15 and a similar value up here in the Kimberley region
03:17 through northern WA.
03:18 Much of the rain up here likely to fall on Friday,
03:21 much of the rain down here likely to fall on Saturday.
03:25 These kind of rainfall values can and will add
03:27 to ongoing flooding, road closures
03:29 and possible community isolations
03:32 through these normally dry parts of Australia.
03:35 So whether it's the heat this weekend
03:36 or it's the rain this weekend,
