Transcript
00:00 I like to be viewed as a strong woman and I think that's what Billboard is basically saying.
00:06 Every year, Women in Music honors some of the best to ever do it. And none more important than
00:12 our Woman of the Year. Today, we're discussing a few of them, including the youngest to ever win.
00:18 The girl power has never been stronger.
00:26 I was also a bit surprised because I thought my year was over.
00:30 2012 was the year Katy Perry wrapped up her California Dream Tour,
00:34 earned her 7th number one song on the Hot 100, and took home Billboard's Woman of the Year.
00:40 I don't really like to call myself a role model for my fans, but I hope that I am an inspiration
00:47 for them, especially young women.
00:50 In 2015, Lady Gaga ventured into jazz, acting, and became Billboard's Woman of the Year.
00:57 What I really want to say is that it is really hard sometimes for women in music.
01:06 It's like a b****** boys club that we just can't get into.
01:11 Giving an inspiring speech with a bit of humor.
01:14 Sorry, Grandma.
01:18 But ultimately, keeping it real.
01:21 I might not be a lot of things, but I can write songs and I can sing.
01:25 Four years later, Billie Eilish took home the honor the same year she released her debut album.
01:30 It's really weird to be Woman of the Year at 17.
01:33 Billie became the youngest artist to be named Woman of the Year.
01:37 Women who in the past have done what they weren't supposed to do
01:40 has made my life a lot easier and made me able to do what I want and be what I want.
01:48 What will happen this year when we honor Carole G?
01:51 Tune in to Women in Music March 7th at 5pm Pacific time on BillboardWomenInMusic.com.
