00:00 Thank you, thank you excellency and let me say that it is my pleasure as well to join
00:10 you for co-chairing the 10th round of our joint commission meeting.
00:16 I am joined by the representatives of the Ministry of External Affairs, Defence, Commerce
00:22 and Industry, Science and Technology and NITI Aayog which is the government's public policy
00:29 think tank.
00:31 Let me excellency first of all begin by congratulating you on your appointment as Foreign Minister.
00:37 You have a long and distinguished career as a diplomat representing your country.
00:42 So let me offer my best wishes for your successful tenure.
00:47 Last year as you noted we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic
00:52 ties.
00:54 During our Prime Minister's visit in 2015, our relations were elevated to a special strategic
01:01 partnership.
01:02 It is important that we live up to that.
01:05 We have grown from strength to strength in the years that have passed.
01:10 We have become truly important partners for each other and our bilateral exchanges, trade,
01:16 investments, defence and S&T cooperation have all seen a steady growth.
01:23 While keeping up the momentum in the traditional areas of cooperation, we would be very much
01:29 interested now in expanding it to new areas such as critical and emerging technologies,
01:35 semiconductors, green hydrogen, human resource mobility, nuclear cooperation, supply chain
01:42 resilience etc. to make our ties more contemporary.
01:47 We have also noted the growing convergence of our views in the international forum.
01:54 Your focus on the Indo-Pacific region is a good case to point and we both have stakes
01:59 in its stability, security and prosperity.
02:05 Let me say today that I approach this Joint Commission with a great deal of optimism and
02:11 expectation.
02:12 I know there is enormous goodwill between us.
02:16 Our challenge is to translate that into practical outcomes.
02:23 Our leaders have met twice last year in Hiroshima and in New Delhi.
02:28 I think their discussions have provided us the guidance to go forward.
02:33 So I join you in looking forward to a very successful Joint Commission meeting.
