Joel Portugal--Jazz Funeral

My friend and mentor Joel Portugal is laid to rest. He was a fine Bass Guitar and Tuba player who taught this struggling guitar player to play string section in his band. I had to learn how to play plectrum style banjo to fit in with the horns. Mostly we did Dixieland tunes but also included some more modern selections in our repertoire. Over the course of two and a half years we played around 400 paying gigs with an occasional freebie for the Ronald McDonald House and other charitable organizations. I did not play with the band because there was a better banjo player than myself participating. I decided to film the event.
