00:00 The fight against gender inequality is crucial to combating food insecurity and the climate
00:06 crisis, says the latest report from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United
00:11 Nations.
00:16 It said that the problem with climate change is it's not stopping, but accelerating, and
00:21 that women are the most affected.
00:25 If we had another one degree Celsius change in the climate, it means that over time women
00:29 would lose 34% more of income than men in situations in middle and low-income countries
00:36 where there's already a lot of stress on these households to produce enough income to feed
00:41 their families and to pursue their livelihoods.
00:46 According to the study, women play a vital role in the agri-food systems as farmers,
00:51 retailers, wage laborers, entrepreneurs, and more.
00:56 Note that discriminatory gender norms and policies limit their access to land, finance,
01:01 and technology, or in other words, their resilience to climate change.
