00:00 We're on the cutting edge today,
00:01 and now we're gonna address some of the most
00:03 annoying problems as you age.
00:05 Now first, you ever have that feeling
00:07 like you have the world's smallest bladder
00:09 that you're constantly running to pee every 10 minutes?
00:11 Well, it's a condition, right?
00:12 You guys are all laughing about it.
00:14 You probably didn't think you know what you have,
00:15 but you know what?
00:16 It's a condition we have not talked about before,
00:18 'cause I'm about to reveal how you can stop this
00:20 from happening to you.
00:22 Patricia's gonna help us explain this.
00:23 Welcome, Patricia.
00:24 Hi, how are you?
00:25 You have to go pee a lot?
00:26 All the time, three to four times
00:27 before I even came here.
00:28 Three to four times already?
00:29 Yes, yes, yep.
00:31 Have you had urinary problems in the past?
00:32 I have, very much so.
00:34 Three to four times a year, UTIs.
00:37 Infections?
00:38 Yes.
00:39 All right, how many of you have heard
00:39 of incomplete urinary emptying?
00:42 Like four people in the back there.
00:45 (audience applauding)
00:46 I'll tell you something, folks.
00:47 You all think you know why you're not able
00:48 to urinate the way you want to.
00:49 This thing affects millions of women across the country.
00:52 Most have no idea.
00:53 I'm gonna explain what this is with an animation.
00:55 I'm gonna do a test today to help show you
00:57 what I'm talking about, and a little home test
00:58 that will work for you as well.
00:59 So come on over.
01:00 This is an animation about what goes on
01:02 in your bladder naturally.
01:03 So here you are in the pelvic area.
01:05 Let's take that away.
01:06 You've got some key organs here.
01:07 There's a uterus, that pink thing.
01:08 That dark maroon structure is the bladder.
01:10 And in the pelvis, if we turn to the side,
01:11 you see the bladder is able to empty out urine
01:14 because you've got a sphincter down here.
01:15 But if the bladder's not emptying all the way,
01:17 if there's urine left in there after you go potty,
01:20 the enclosed bacteria will begin to grow in that urine.
01:23 Like if you left urine in the toilet,
01:24 it would grow bacteria, same in your bladder.
01:26 So when this is an infection,
01:27 it gets red and angry and irritated,
01:28 and that can cause urinary tract infections
01:30 and the pain that goes along with it.
01:32 So the question is why, why, why would there be times
01:35 when you have incomplete emptying of the bladder?
01:38 And there are a lot of things that cause it.
01:39 Hormones cause it, aging cause it.
01:41 But if you have it, you have it.
01:43 And there's simple things we can do to deal with it.
01:45 So I'm gonna examine you if it's okay.
01:46 Patricia, hop up here.
01:48 And now I'm about to show you a cutting edge technique
01:50 to see how much urine is left in Patricia's bladder.
01:53 Right now, and there's no knives involved.
01:56 We'll be happy to know.
01:57 Did I give you reassurance?
01:58 You can slide down a little bit.
01:59 Get comfortable here.
02:00 All right.
02:01 Now, this is an ultrasound device.
02:03 Now, when was the last time you went to the bathroom?
02:06 Five seconds ago.
02:07 Five seconds ago.
02:08 So you peed during the animation, or was it before that?
02:10 I did, yeah, the animation.
02:12 So right before the show, Patricia went to the bathroom.
02:17 If you don't mind, loosen up just here.
02:18 You'll close a tiny bit.
02:19 I'm gonna get in here.
02:20 Now, she made me promise and swear
02:21 I have to show her belly fat.
02:22 That's right.
02:23 Is that okay?
02:24 That's right.
02:24 All right.
02:25 So I'm gonna take this here, if you don't mind.
02:26 I'm gonna slide down.
02:27 You know what, just put that under there for me,
02:28 and just push that all down.
02:29 I have to get about two finger breaths
02:30 above your pelvic bone.
02:31 Okay.
02:32 Okay, so where's your pelvic bone?
02:33 Down here?
02:34 Right here.
02:35 So I need to get down here.
02:35 Okay.
02:36 So, okay.
02:37 We're headed in the right direction anyway.
02:38 Good, all right.
02:39 So the ultrasound device is very simple.
02:40 You've all seen devices like this.
02:42 The PVR bladder scan.
02:44 This is a post-void scan.
02:46 It looks at the post-void residual,
02:47 how much urine is left in your bladder
02:49 after you've gone to the bathroom.
02:50 So I'm gonna put an ultrasound device here.
02:53 It's a little bit cold.
02:54 There we are.
02:57 Okay, now we're looking right there.
02:58 That's a pretty good picture right there.
03:01 And can you all see that on the big screen?
03:03 All right.
03:06 Let's freeze that there.
03:07 Inside here is the urine, and it's 250 mLs.
03:12 That's about eight and a half ounces.
03:15 Wow.
03:16 There's eight and a half ounces.
03:17 You all see the urine in there?
03:19 See that there?
03:20 And there's the volume, 250 mLs, eight and a half ounces.
03:25 So I'm gonna clean that up.
03:26 Let me explain to you what that means.
03:28 Is that okay?
03:29 Yes.
03:30 Okay, so you have eight and a half ounces of urine left
03:33 after you just went to the bathroom.
03:34 Yes.
03:35 You hop up.
03:36 That means that you're above what we consider
03:37 the maximum we'll allow, which is about 150 mLs.
03:41 That's about five ounces.
03:42 So if you're retaining too much urine in your side of you,
03:45 you're setting yourself up
03:46 to the thing that I'm talking about there.
03:47 So this is not just a problem for women.
03:49 This is also an issue for men.
03:50 Not in the exact same mechanism,
03:52 but men will also keep urine in their bladders
03:54 after they think they've emptied themselves out completely
03:56 if their prostates have gotten large.
03:57 Let me give you two at-home tests.
03:59 The first is called the belly pressing test.
04:01 We're all gonna do it together.
04:02 All right, I want you to take your fingers
04:03 and you want to press on your belly.
04:05 Simple as it sounds.
04:06 At the end of urinating, next time,
04:08 I want you to push just above your pelvic bone in there
04:10 and see if it makes you wanna go to the bathroom again.
04:14 Right?
04:14 'Cause if you've got--
04:15 A little.
04:16 A little bit?
04:17 Yeah, 'cause I just saw you have almost twice as much.
04:20 You have almost twice as much urine
04:21 as you're supposed to have in there.
04:22 So you're not peeing everything out.
04:24 And if you have that much urine,
04:25 you gotta go see a urologist to get ahead of it.
04:27 The other test is called the double voiding test.
04:30 And that is all about how long does it take you
04:33 to need to go to the bathroom
04:34 after you just went to the bathroom.
04:35 So if 10 minutes after urinating,
04:37 you can go again and try to push yourself,
04:39 that means that you've got retained urine in there.
04:41 'Cause your bladder should never want,
04:42 you should have so little left in there,
04:44 your bladder can't go.
04:45 Okay?
04:46 So I'll give you some solutions.
04:47 One in particular that I want you to think about
04:48 from now on, flax seeds.
04:50 Now remember, you gotta ground flax seeds up
04:52 pretty soon before you use 'em.
04:53 Can't grind 'em up weeks ahead of time.
04:54 You can add it to whatever you're having
04:55 for breakfast in the morning, yogurt or oatmeal.
04:57 But I made this little smoothie drink.
04:59 It's simple to make these things.
05:01 And it helps soothe the lining of the urinary tract,
05:04 which makes it easier for the bladder
05:05 to expel the urine that's in it.
05:07 Okay.
05:08 So let's see if you like the taste of this thing.
05:09 Okay.
05:10 And I've not tasted it yet either.
05:11 Pretty good.
05:15 You have to go to the bathroom?
05:16 (audience applauds)
05:17 I do.
05:19 Any questions, make sense?
05:20 Yes, make sense.
05:21 Thank you very much.
05:22 Thanks for letting me examine you.
05:22 Thank you for watching.
