00:00 Darwin was marching to the beat of its own drum today, painting the town purple and putting
00:07 on a party.
00:08 "Straighten it out, straighten it out, happy International Women's Day."
00:14 On foot, on wheels and on paws, Territorians braved the heat to show up and show off.
00:22 "I absolutely adore women.
00:24 Mothers, grandmothers and those before them, absolute strength, so I just say power to
00:32 you."
00:34 The official theme of International Women's Day 2024 is 'Invest in Women'.
00:40 Data released this week showing Australian women still earn 22% less than men on average.
00:45 But today's marchers had many of their own reasons for showing up.
00:49 "Just to support my partner and support women and you know, I've got two little girls so
00:54 yeah, why wouldn't I be here?"
00:56 "What I'm always teaching my children is that feminism is about equality and that everyone
01:01 should be a feminist because when it comes down to it, we're all human beings."
01:06 And while women were running the show, today's march had the important support of men.
01:10 "It's the other half of the sky.
01:12 You have to remember, men and women together, they can make things change.
01:16 If one pushes the other, nothing's going to change."
01:18 The hundreds of people marching here in Darwin today are joined by tens of thousands of others
01:23 all around the globe, creating a worldwide, multicultural celebration of women.
01:29 "It's so important that we celebrate women.
01:31 We're fantastic, we hold up more than half the sky and I think we've got to keep pushing
01:36 and keep working towards that equity that we really need."
01:39 One step at a time, towards a more equitable world.
