00:00 Hi parents, I am Rita & I want to ask one question to every parent today.
00:13 Have they ever found their child indulging into bad habits of nail biting, thumb sucking
00:20 or teeth grinding or pulling their hair.
00:22 And we might be at a wits end how to do, what to do, how to deal with this situation to
00:29 get the child out of these habits.
00:31 We must have tried various measures and means to stop this habit but we were unsuccessful.
00:37 So in this video I am going to share a few tips which might help you to deal with these
00:41 situations.
00:42 Sometimes we find that our child is constantly licking our lips or chewing our lips and we
00:48 don't know what to do.
00:49 So this could be because of anxiety, it could be because of boredom or if the child is too
00:54 absorbed in some action or may be he is too busy watching the television.
00:59 As a parent I wonder what do I do to deal with this situation.
01:03 So there are few quick tips which is you can apply petroleum jelly on your child's lips
01:09 overnight and overnight is a time when the body goes into healing.
01:13 So that is a good way to deal with this situation.
01:16 During the day time you can give a lip balm or apply a lip balm on your child's lips.
01:20 Also you can inform your child that if he regularly licks his lips the area near his
01:25 lips can become vulnerable to infection.
01:27 The next point is about nose picking.
01:29 Some or the other time you must have found your child putting his fingers in his nose
01:33 and just comfort, it sometimes provides comfort to the child.
01:38 At times he does it out of boredom or at times he feels that it gives him relaxation.
01:44 Its a subconscious action on the child's behalf.
01:47 As a parent I can give some tissues to my child to clean his nose or apply petroleum
01:52 jelly on the walls of his nose.
01:54 Sometimes we can put a bandage on the child's finger as a reminder to stop this action of
01:59 nose picking.
02:00 Thumb sucking.
02:01 Thumb sucking is actually a comfort sucking.
02:04 This habit usually develops when the child discovers her hand and realizes that how comforting
02:10 it is to suck the thumb.
02:13 Sometimes children also suck their thumb to soothe themselves when they are alone.
02:17 Prolonged thumb sucking can lead to emotional stress and anxiety.
02:22 So lets try to provide a happy, safe and loving environment to our child and maybe give some
02:28 toys to the child which requires the involvement of both the hands.
