More than 20 dogs saved from Indonesia's Tomohon 'Extreme' Market — once infamous for the dog meat trade — are now being nursed back to health in the US.

00:51 trafficked long distance from surrounding provinces,
00:54 without being given any food or water.

01:05 And the trauma was, I've worked in dog rescue,
01:09 from the dog meat trade in several parts of Asia,
01:12 but I think the Tomahawk dogs were some of the most traumatized dogs I've ever come across.

01:44 And I think if you take away the supply of dogs and cats,
01:47 I think there's enough local support to accept a ban on the dog and cat meat trade,
01:54 that in time we could really end the supply,
01:58 and subsequently the demand for dog meat permanently in North Sulawesi.
