00:00 Serving as a protector of Earth for decades and of Asgard for millennia, Thor has been
00:05 in more battles than almost any superhero in Marvel.
00:08 Most heroes would struggle to thwart a cosmic entity or an intergalactic empire, but for
00:13 Thor it's often mere sport.
00:15 He may be the God of Thunder and the occasional All-Father of Asgard, but the Norse champion
00:20 has come across enemies that were able to hold their own against the founding Avenger.
00:25 Thor is tough, but he isn't quite unbeatable, even though he's taken down incredible enemies
00:29 that might make it look like he is.
00:31 With that in mind, I'm Will for What Culture and here are the 10 Most Powerful Beings Thor
00:36 Has Defeated.
00:37 10.
00:38 Apocalypse - Uncanny Avengers 6
00:41 In 1013 AD, Apocalypse made his way to Scandinavia after learning its people possessed a threat
00:47 to his schemes.
00:49 Thor happened to be nearby and, despite being completely wasted, challenged the demonic
00:53 mutant, assuming he was just a mindless brute.
00:56 Because this encounter took place before Thor was armed with Mjolnir, Apocalypse wiped the
01:01 floor with the Viking God.
01:03 When Thor realised his axe, Jarnborn, couldn't pierce his enemy's celestial hide, he fled
01:08 back to Asgard.
01:09 After seeking consultation, the Thunder God learned that he could place an enchantment
01:13 on his weapon using his own blood to make it cut through anything.
01:17 After doing so, he tracked down the celestial-powered mutant and demanded a rematch.
01:22 This time, Thor's axe cut through his rival's chest with ease.
01:26 Left with no choice, Apocalypse reluctantly retreated.
01:29 9.
01:30 Bor - Thor 600
01:33 Centuries ago, Loki had Thor's grandfather Bor turned into snow, apparently killing him.
01:38 Classic Loki, am I right?
01:40 Then in the modern era, Loki decided to discredit Thor by having him murder his own grandfather
01:45 in front of the other Asgardians.
01:47 He uses his dark magic to revive Bor and forced him to see everyone as a threat.
01:52 After he unleashed his fury upon New York, Thor stepped in to take him down, unaware
01:57 that this enemy was of his own blood.
01:59 Bor proved to be one of Thor's greatest adversaries, since he could wheel and hurl
02:04 Mjolnir with ease.
02:05 In the final moments of the battle, Thor struck Bor with so much force, a chunk of Mjolnir
02:10 cracked off.
02:11 It was only after the fight that Thor realised he was battling his grandfather.
02:15 Sadly, the impact of Mjolnir was too great and Bor perished.
02:19 8.
02:20 Hela - Thor 361
02:22 Thor may be Asgard's champion, but his power pales in comparison to Hela.
02:27 Not only does the Goddess of Death usually defeat the hammer-hurling Avenger with little
02:30 effort, but she has actually killed him in the past as well.
02:33 Even though Thor knows this, he still challenged the Mistress of Death to combat when his friend's
02:38 souls were trapped in Hell.
02:39 Unsurprisingly, Hela maintained the upper hand for the majority of the fight and managed
02:43 to slash Thor's face to pieces.
02:45 When Thor pulled off her robe, however, he learned that it served as a conduit for her
02:49 sorcery, meaning that she was literally powerless without it.
02:53 Unable to overpower Thor without her enchanted cloak, she admitted defeat and freed his friends.
02:59 Turns out it's just that easy.
03:01 7.
03:02 Surtr - Mighty Thor 21
03:03 Surtr, the fire giant, has served as the ruler of the fiery realm of Muspelheim for eons.
03:09 When the fire god declared war on the nine realms, Thor vowed to put a stop to his tyranny
03:14 once and for all.
03:15 Fusing the indestructible Twilight Sword with Mjolnir, the storm god impaled Surtr through
03:20 the neck, killing him.
03:22 Although comic book villains have a tendency to resurrect themselves every fortnight or
03:26 so, Surtr has been dead and buried for eight years, and thus has been perceived as one
03:30 of Thor's greatest lasting triumphs.
03:32 6.
03:33 The Midgard Serpent - Thor 360
03:36 In Norse mythology, Thor's most defining moment is when he died, defeating Jormungandr,
03:41 the Midgard Serpent, an otherworldly reptile so large its body wrapped around the entire
03:46 planet.
03:47 In the comics, the serpent exists in an ethereal version of Earth, because, well, if it didn't,
03:52 it would crush everything in the world in like two seconds.
03:55 But when this colossal creature partially materialised on the physical plane to challenge
03:59 Thor to a duel, Asgard's champion had no choice, knowing the serpent was destined to
04:03 destroy Midgard.
04:05 Even though Thor knew that he was destined to fall at the hands of the snake, he went
04:09 for it anyway.
04:10 Despite the fact he was seemingly poisoned to death by the serpent's venom in the final
04:15 pages, we all know that heroes never stay dead for long.
04:18 5.
04:19 Gore - Thor God of Thunder 11
04:21 Centuries ago, an alien called Gore lost his faith in the gods after his family were killed.
04:26 After stumbling upon a god-slaying weapon called the Necrosword, Gore vowed to wipe
04:30 out every deity in existence for failing to save his family.
04:35 For over a thousand years, Gore the God Butcher travelled the cosmos, exterminating entire
04:39 pantheons.
04:41 Every time he executed a god, he absorbed their essence, magnifying his strength to
04:45 an incalculable level.
04:47 In fact, he's so powerful, Thor teamed up with two time-displaced versions of himself
04:52 to fight Gore, and still lost.
04:54 The superhero eventually learned that Gore was building a god bomb that, once destinated,
04:59 would kill every god in the time stream.
05:01 Since Thor knew he couldn't beat the God Butcher in combat, he tried a different tactic.
05:06 Because Thor is a god, he is powered by the beliefs of his followers.
05:09 At least, at this point in the comics, that's how it worked.
05:12 As the gods throughout space and time empowered Thor with their prayers, he absorbed the god
05:16 bomb into himself before expunging it.
05:18 He then used the Necrosword to decapitate Gore, before having his remains hurled into
05:23 the nearest black hole.
05:24 4.
05:25 The Demagorg - The Mighty Thor 8-9
05:28 When Thor was murdered by his evil uncle, Cole Borson, a magical spell caused everyone
05:33 in existence to forget he existed.
05:35 Any god that is forgotten is transported to a realm outside time and space, where they're
05:40 consumed by the Demagorg.
05:42 Despite his best efforts to avoid this fate, Thor was devoured by the ungodly behemoth.
05:47 Luckily, it takes a little more than killing Thor and eating him to put him down for good.
05:52 Once in the creature's gut, he raised an army of other deceased gods, attacked the
05:55 creature's heart and made it explode.
05:57 He then returned to Earth and life via a convenient portal.
06:01 3.
06:02 Exetar - Uncanny Avengers 21 Even though Thor has encountered his fair share
06:06 of cosmic entities, he was gobsmacked when he laid eyes on Exetar, the Celestial Executioner,
06:11 a being so vast, his upper body surpassed the clouds.
06:15 Thor knew he was outmatched, but fought the cosmic colossus head on, managing to breach
06:19 his shell and decimate his brain casing.
06:22 Although this left Exetar injured, Mjolnir was shattered and the gigantic exterminator
06:26 was far from defeated.
06:28 When Exetar was sent to vanquish Earth, it was Thor's chance to have a rematch.
06:32 After Rogue absorbed the powers of almost every superhero on Earth, she staggered Exetar
06:36 long enough for the God of Thunder to slay it with his axe, Yarnborn.
06:40 2.
06:41 Mangog - The Mighty Thor 705 Mangog is basically the culmination of a quadrillion
06:46 beings Odin killed because they were all evil and going to wipe out the universe.
06:50 He is one of the strongest entities in existence and is super pissed off at the Asgardians.
06:56 Even Thor and Odin together proved powerless to stop Mangog.
07:00 After shattering the Bifrost and destroying most of Asgardia, Jane Foster, better known
07:04 as the Mighty Thor, hurled the demonic entity into the bowels of the sun.
07:09 When she realised that the star's intense heat wasn't enough to kill the beast, she
07:12 wrapped it in the chains forged to bind the Fenris Wolf, and then tied it to Mjolnir,
07:17 sealing Mangog forever in the core of the sun.
07:20 1.
07:21 Galactus and the Black Winter - Thor 1-6
07:25 Shortly after Thor became the All-Father, a heavily injured Galactus visited Asgard,
07:30 pleading for his help.
07:31 The World Eater explained that the entity that destroyed his old reality, the Black
07:35 Winter, had returned to consume all life in the cosmos.
07:39 Knowing he was powerless to defeat this being in his current state, Galactus endowed Thor
07:43 with the power cosmic, transforming him into the Herald of Thunder.
07:47 Despite his god-like power, Galactus was unable to kill the Black Winter.
07:51 When Thor encountered the celestial being, it revealed that the reason it spared Galactus
07:55 in the previous universe was so that he could serve as his Herald in this one.
07:59 Upon this revelation, Thor obliterated Galactus then and there.
08:03 He then converted his energy into a cosmic bomb, which he used to vanquish the Black
08:08 Winter once and for all.
08:10 And there you have it folks, the 10 most powerful beings Thor has defeated.
