00:00 The Court of Appeal has unanimously reinstated four charges of abuse of power
00:05 framed against former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
00:08 The ruling overturns a decision of the Kuala Lumpur High Court last year
00:12 which struck down the charges brought over bribes totalling 232.5 million ringgit
00:17 allegedly sought by Muhyiddin for persatu.
00:19 Delivering the decision, Justice Hadaria Sy Ismail said today
00:24 the High Court had "erred in law in holding" that the charges were defective.
00:29 She said the charges against the persatu chairman were "unambiguous"
00:33 and there was "no need for further details to be furnished".
00:36 Previously, Justice Jamil Hussin had described the charges as defective
00:41 saying they were not sufficiently clear to enable Muhyiddin to prepare his defence.
00:45 The ruling today paves the way for the trial to proceed in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court
00:50 unless Muhyiddin files an appeal and secures a stay of the decision.
