00:00 A giant 3D-printed golden dragon will be striding along the streets of Johor Bahru during the
00:08 Johor Ancient Temple Chinggai Festival on Friday.
00:12 The creature's head and body, fitted on a three-ton truck, will be one of the floats
00:16 participating in the century-old festival to mark the end of the Chinese New Year celebration
00:21 for Johoreans.
00:22 Yahya Awal Dragon Dance Troupe Assistant Head Coach Amos Po said that the troupe wanted
00:27 to create something extraordinary as this year marks their 50th anniversary.
00:32 Every year, the dragon team from the ancient temple will perform a special performance
00:41 of the dragon dance.
00:44 But this year, we wanted to make a breakthrough.
00:48 So we decided not to spend money on the dragon dance, but on the truck.
00:55 Po, who has about 28 years' experience in dragon dancing, said this will also be the
01:00 troupe's first time participating in the float section of the procession as they only performed
01:05 on foot in previous years.
01:07 Meanwhile, Sean Ng, a general manager at the 3D printing company, said that it was his
01:12 team's first time taking on such a huge project.
01:15 A total of 88 parts, each measuring 80 centimeters by 80 centimeters, were produced using a 3D
01:22 printer before fitting them together on a three-ton truck.
01:26 The entire process, including spray painting the dragon head and tail and installing metal
01:30 frames to strengthen the foundation, took approximately 88 days to complete.
01:37 The Chinggai Festival will be celebrated by the Chinese community in Johore, Baru, from
01:41 the 19th to the 22nd day of Chinese New Year on February 27th to March 2nd this year.
01:48 Roads in the city center will also be closed in stages throughout the five-day festival,
01:53 especially on the procession day, so the public is advised to plan their routes accordingly.
