00:02:48 Today is Friday, February 23rd, and this has been just the JJ Redick week.
00:02:55 He's pissed off the entire world.
00:02:57 It's his world.
00:02:58 We're just living in it.
00:02:59 He pissed off Pat Bev, pissed off Doc Rivers.
00:03:02 Yeah.
00:03:03 He pissed off NotBallKnowers online.
00:03:05 Yeah.
00:03:06 The fans.
00:03:07 So when JJ says, "I only get 50,000 people watching an X's and O's thing,"
00:03:11 I'm one of those because I know ball.
00:03:13 Humble brag.
00:03:14 That's what I want.
00:03:15 Now, we like JJ Redick.
00:03:16 He's a friend of ours.
00:03:17 He's a friend of the show.
00:03:19 But I feel like this is just JJ Redick doing his full return to Duke form.
00:03:25 Yeah, I can see that.
00:03:27 I think he's kind of doing a little bit of a--
00:03:29 There's a couple things that he said that I was like, "I disagree with that."
00:03:32 But when he goes on first take, I think he's just playing up the fact that everyone used to hate him
00:03:37 and they see that face and they see him being like, "I'm smarter than you,"
00:03:41 and it's like, "Oh, yeah.
00:03:42 That was Duke JJ Redick.
00:03:44 I don't like him."
00:03:45 I think it's more the Duke JJ Redick in the mindset of, "I'm the only one that appreciates true knowledge."
00:03:52 You guys don't understand true knowledge.
00:03:53 Jay Billis does that from time to time too.
00:03:55 When he gets deep in his bag on that lawyer shit.
00:03:57 Yeah.
00:03:58 And sometimes we just want to watch people scream about the Cowboys at each other.
00:04:01 Yeah, and it was an interesting week for him because he basically started the week,
00:04:07 he bashed Doc Rivers and said he always has an excuse, which I agreed with.
00:04:12 Doc Rivers does have a lot of excuses.
00:04:14 We played that on Wednesday.
00:04:16 And then on, I think it was maybe Wednesday or Thursday, he went on first take and was like,
00:04:21 "Why does everyone care about what I said about my former coach?"
00:04:25 Which, yeah, of course, if a player calls out his former coach,
00:04:29 we just did an entire Robert Griffin III versus Jay Gruden story arc.
00:04:34 That's like everyone will always tune in if a player's like, "My former coach, Johnny Manziel,
00:04:39 just bashed Brian Hoyer," and people are talking about that.
00:04:42 That is always going to be what people want to listen to.
00:04:45 This is also the next iteration of saying something inflammatory, getting invited back on shows
00:04:49 to defend your inflammatory thing, where now he's going back on shows and he's fighting back,
00:04:54 and he's like, "This shouldn't be inflammatory."
00:04:56 Yeah.
00:04:57 And then the discussion becomes like, "Why aren't we as a society smarter about what we choose to watch
00:05:01 and talk about basketball knowledge?"
00:05:03 Right.
00:05:04 And it's funny because in 2024, I would make the argument that fans are more knowledgeable
00:05:08 than they've ever been in any part of sports history.
00:05:11 Yeah.
00:05:12 There is countless things that you can watch if you want to learn more about the game that you love.
00:05:17 Like, just, it's the internet.
00:05:19 There's podcasts.
00:05:20 There's clips.
00:05:21 Everything is at your fingertips when it comes to becoming a more knowledgeable fan.
00:05:26 Unfortunately, what JJ misses is we are fans, and fans are a lot of times dumb, I'm counting myself,
00:05:34 and we like drama.
00:05:36 We like to make knee-jerk reactions.
00:05:39 We like to have stupid debates with our friends.
00:05:42 It's not hard to figure out that, like, we want to be entertained.
00:05:45 We're dumb creatures who want to be entertained.
00:05:48 Sports should be entertainment.
00:05:50 Being like, "Why isn't anyone watching my Zion Williamson primary ball handler clip?"
00:05:55 Yeah, I guess I'd watch it.
00:05:56 It'd probably be interesting, but yeah, I also want to debate, like, you know,
00:06:00 "Will LeBron go back to Cleveland?"
00:06:02 Yeah, also the people that end up paying JJ's salary are mostly the ones that just want to talk about LeBron,
00:06:07 the Dallas Cowboys, the Yankees, and the Dodgers all the time.
00:06:10 It's like one of those things you can't fight it.
00:06:12 That's why this show exists is we're dumb sports fans that we're lucky enough to, like,
00:06:17 be sitting in these seats talking into a microphone, and we also understand that most sports fans
00:06:22 want to be entertained and have sports be an escape from everyday bullshit.
00:06:27 We can do both sides of the coin, too, because right now we're debating whether or not we want people to be smarter
00:06:31 about sports, whether or not they should want to be smarter, and it got distilled down to "Duke sucks."
00:06:36 Yeah, Duke does suck.
00:06:37 So that's the main takeaway that you can get.
00:06:40 I do think he is doing a little bit of a bit when he goes on first take.
00:06:43 It's the heel in him.
00:06:44 He's being the professional wrestler.
00:06:46 You guys don't deserve me on team.
00:06:49 I kind of like that.
00:06:50 I like, like, maybe you're a little bit of a masochist when you watch TV sometimes.
00:06:54 I like it when experts on TV are like, "You piece of shit walk me right now.
00:06:59 I am so much smarter than you when it comes to all this stuff."
00:07:02 I'm like, "God damn, he's owning me."
00:07:04 MJF is one of the most popular wrestlers in the world.
00:07:06 He calls his fans poor constantly.
00:07:08 Yeah.
00:07:09 Like, we're all subs.
00:07:10 We just want to be dumb.
00:07:11 When Andy Kaufman went to Memphis and called everybody hicks and shit?
00:07:14 Yeah.
00:07:15 Yeah.
00:07:16 Like, we want to be insulted, and then we want to get mad at you and be like, "No, our conference is the best conference.
00:07:19 Fuck you, dude."
00:07:20 Choke me out, JJ.
00:07:21 Yeah.
00:07:22 Step on me with some heels.
00:07:24 Pat Bev, I think, is going to be in the office next Friday.
00:07:27 He's going to come on PMT.
00:07:28 Although, I like what Pat Bev did.
00:07:30 I don't have a problem with Pat Bev having Doc Rivers back because one thing that you know about Pat Bev, if he's in your foxhole, he's in there deep.
00:07:37 Yeah.
00:07:38 Real deep.
00:07:39 And so, he signs with the Bucks, and immediately he's like, "I'm riding or dying with Doc Rivers."
00:07:42 Yeah.
00:07:43 That's as simple as it is.
00:07:44 Well, he's been Doc's guy for a long time.
00:07:45 Yeah.
00:07:46 It's pretty wild to claim that JJ's career was saved by Doc Rivers.
00:07:49 I liked it, though, because guess what?
00:07:51 That, to me, is like, okay, JJ's been pretty good at shooting three-pointers for his entire life.
00:07:55 But if you get to a take first, it's just like, "Yeah, that makes sense."
00:07:58 Doc made you, JJ.
00:07:59 I didn't look up any stats behind it because then JJ got caught in a -- basically, he got caught in his own trap because Pat Bev said something inflammatory, and then JJ tried to back it up with stats that it wasn't true.
00:08:11 And I saw the tweet, and it was just too many numbers, so I just passed right over it.
00:08:15 I was like, "No, Pat Bev was right."
00:08:17 Yeah, those are stats that normal people don't know how to read.
00:08:19 Right.
00:08:20 Yeah.
00:08:21 Right.
00:08:22 Right.
00:08:23 He put a bunch of stats.
00:08:24 I was like, "I don't know if this is proving his point or not."
00:08:25 I'm assuming it is because he posted them, but I don't know what any of this shit means.
00:08:26 We are dumb.
00:08:27 I mean that in a loving way.
00:08:29 I consider myself not the smartest person when it comes to the sports I watch, but I love watching sports.
00:08:34 I love the drama of it.
00:08:36 I love sports.
00:08:37 You put on a game, you don't know what's going to happen.
00:08:39 That's the beauty of sports.
00:08:41 Pat Bev's point was you blew a 3-1 lead to us, and that's a fact.
00:08:44 That's a fact.
00:08:45 That's basically checkmate.
00:08:47 That's easily digestible.
00:08:48 That's a meme.
00:08:49 Yeah.
00:08:50 Yeah, he wrapped him up in a meme and said, "No, here's why you're wrong."
00:08:52 And I think JJ responded to him by saying, "Doc didn't save my career.
00:08:56 I got offered that same year a multimillion dollar deal for another team that I turned down, so it's like somebody else won me."
00:09:03 At that point, you're like, "Well, actually, I'm not poor.
00:09:06 Here's a screenshot of my bank account."
00:09:07 Yeah.
00:09:08 And Pat Bev wins that round, too.
00:09:09 Yeah.
00:09:10 Yeah.
00:09:11 At the end of the day, it's like this debate has happened many, many times over.
00:09:15 I think like 10 years ago, it had more weight behind it because there weren't as many options for fans to find what they wanted in terms of content.
00:09:24 Now, in this day and age, it's like there's everything, and guess what?
00:09:30 A lot of times, the most popular thing is the one that takes sports as entertainment and an escape from everyone else.
00:09:36 There's plenty to go around.
00:09:37 Plenty to go around.
00:09:38 We should actually-- we could get this even dumber with our analysis.
00:09:41 Is JJ Redick overrated as an announcer?
00:09:44 I was going to say, do you guys think he's feeling himself off his promotion from last week to the A team?
00:09:48 No, I actually--
00:09:49 No, JJ's awesome.
00:09:50 I really-- I do think he's doing a character on first take.
00:09:52 I swear to God.
00:09:53 That might be just me growing up on the attitude error where I can just work myself into a shoot constantly,
00:10:00 but if you watch it under the idea that JJ is being like the Duke smartass, I know more ball than you, it's great TV.
00:10:09 He should show up next time wearing an ascot, like really--
00:10:12 Yeah.
00:10:13 --ascot, fake prescription glasses that he doesn't need.
00:10:15 He should just wait till Stephen A like says something stupid and just shove a bunch of $100 bills in his mouth.
00:10:20 Or he should be like Stephen A makes a good point that JJ says, "Do you know who my father is?"
00:10:24 Yeah.
00:10:25 That would rock.
00:10:26 Yeah. My dad's a lawyer.
00:10:27 Yeah.
00:10:28 He'll sue you right now.
00:10:29 I'm all in for it.
00:10:30 It's entertainment.
00:10:31 And yeah, I like learning.
00:10:33 I actually saw Dan Orlovsky chimed in.
00:10:36 Dan Orlovsky's a perfect example where Dan Orlovsky, when he started his career, I thought he was a little bit boring
00:10:41 because he was trying to teach everything, and he started having more fun, and I think he's great.
00:10:45 He's great at what he does.
00:10:46 He's a little bit weird, but in a good way.
00:10:48 Weird is good.
00:10:49 Weird plays.
00:10:50 Yeah, he's showing his personality, and he's like--
00:10:52 I will stop when I see a clip of him teaching a play or something.
00:10:56 I'm going to watch it because I know it's not going to just be droning on like, "This is what you should know as a football fan."
00:11:01 There's a little personality into it.
00:11:03 Yeah, so I like both.
00:11:05 I like it when Dan teaches me something, and I also like it when Mark Slareth pulls up a clip.
00:11:09 He's like, "You have to play man football sometimes."
00:11:12 Sometimes it's just about being a man.
00:11:14 We are that kid.
00:11:15 Why not both?
00:11:16 Yeah.
00:11:17 Why not both?
00:11:18 That's why we have guests on this show who can tell us smart things, and then it helps us even out the dumb things that we say.
00:11:23 Where do you stand on this, Hank?
00:11:25 Do you stand behind your Duke brethren, or are you on Pat Bev?
00:11:27 The brotherhood.
00:11:29 I mean, Pat Bev's my Barstool brother.
00:11:31 I kind of got to ride with him.
00:11:32 Yeah.
00:11:33 But I love JJ Redick.
00:11:34 Yeah.
00:11:35 I never thought it was like you got to pick a side.
00:11:38 It was more just-- it was funny because JJ did a good job of basically dominating an entire week just based off his own takes.
00:11:45 Hey, Jake, can you put a reminder in the calendar next year, the week after the Super Bowl?
00:11:49 Say something really, really inflammatory and just absolutely take over the news cycle.
00:11:53 No, not the week after the Super Bowl.
00:11:55 Well, the week after the Super Bowl is filled with post-Super Bowl talk.
00:11:58 Right.
00:11:59 So this is a perfect week because there was no NBA games for three days.
00:12:02 Yeah.
00:12:03 Right during the All-Star break, and maybe we can do this during baseball season too, at that midsummer swoon.
00:12:09 After Marsh Madness.
00:12:10 Yeah.
00:12:11 Yeah.
00:12:12 Let's say something really, really stupid and just get people angry.
00:12:15 Yeah.
00:12:16 And then we'll come back on the next show and be like, well, what we said was not exactly what you think.
00:12:21 And then say something even dumber and we got them in a trap.
00:12:24 Perfect.
00:12:25 Yeah.
00:12:26 I don't like when shows do these type of tricks to try to string everyone along and get everyone like, oh, here's a cliffhanger.
00:12:33 You've got to tune in next week.
00:12:35 Hank, do you have your fifth Patriot?
00:12:37 I do.
00:12:38 The number five Patriot of all time?
00:12:40 My number five Patriot of all time.
00:12:42 You know what?
00:12:43 Let's save it.
00:12:44 We'll save it for a little bit later in the show.
00:12:45 We have another thing we have to talk about.
00:12:48 Big Dom.
00:12:49 What's going on with Big Dom?
00:12:50 You see the report?
00:12:51 What report about Big Dom?
00:12:53 So there was a report out of Philadelphia that I 100% believe.
00:12:57 I do not care if this was made up.
00:12:59 I don't give a fuck.
00:13:00 This is one of those things that like it passes the field test for me.
00:13:04 The report is essentially that Big Dom was a lot more than just a security guard.
00:13:10 He was essentially Nick Sirianni's emotional support animal.
00:13:15 And when he got suspended from the sideline, Nick Sirianni spiraled out of control,
00:13:21 was fighting with players, and Big Dom is the reason why their season fell apart.
00:13:26 And I 100% believe it.
00:13:28 I mean, we said this in real time.
00:13:29 It was happening.
00:13:30 It's like Big Dom, yeah, the whole vibe that he brings.
00:13:33 I would not be shocked if Big Dom was like-- have you ever seen the movie Flight with Denzel?
00:13:39 He flies the airplane upside down.
00:13:40 He's the drunk pilot.
00:13:41 That one?
00:13:42 Sully Sullenberger?
00:13:43 No, anyways--
00:13:44 I've never seen it.
00:13:45 You saw that one?
00:13:46 So John Goodman in that movie--
00:13:47 Wait, the plane was upside down?
00:13:49 Yeah, he flew it upside down, then landed it, saved half the plane.
00:13:52 Did he do a barrel roll?
00:13:53 Did a barrel roll, 747.
00:13:54 What was that game, N64?
00:13:55 Barrel roll.
00:13:56 Do a barrel roll.
00:13:57 Do a barrel roll.
00:13:58 Star Fox.
00:13:59 Star Fox, yes, such a good game.
00:14:00 Yeah.
00:14:01 Such a good game.
00:14:02 So John Goodman is the banana boat guy that just shows up to calm Denzel down.
00:14:06 He's got a briefcase filled with whatever he needs.
00:14:08 Maybe Big Dom had like a pocket full of Xanax.
00:14:11 It was like, hey, dude, just chill out on the sideline.
00:14:13 Yeah, you need another Italian to calm down the first Italian.
00:14:19 Yeah.
00:14:20 Like you can't have an Italian alone just on the sideline roaming around without an emotional support Italian.
00:14:26 Maybe his mother.
00:14:27 Yes.
00:14:28 He should have brought his mom down on the sideline.
00:14:29 Should have done some Sunday gravy.
00:14:30 So Big Dom, it would not shock me if he was a reason for Nick Sirianni flying off the handle.
00:14:36 Do you think Big Dom enjoys this type of press conference or press coverage where it's like Big Dom is the reason for this thing?
00:14:42 Not even a tiny little bit.
00:14:44 He's probably calling up Putin being like, how do you get these guys killed?
00:14:48 So what are your thoughts on these on the Big Dom story?
00:14:51 I mean, it makes sense.
00:14:52 I agree with everything that you said.
00:14:53 He's a leader in that.
00:14:55 Talk about a leader of men.
00:14:56 Big Dom is a leader of men.
00:14:57 He's been around the program for a really long time.
00:14:59 He's seen the ups and downs.
00:15:01 He's probably the most well-respected guy on that sideline.
00:15:03 And when Big Dom tries to de-escalate, I don't think that's a word.
00:15:09 No, it was a word.
00:15:12 It was a Philly pronunciation.
00:15:13 You didn't say it right, but it was a word.
00:15:15 De-escalate?
00:15:16 De-escalate is what they say in South Philly, for sure.
00:15:20 Yeah, no, but I think people are like, all right, Big Dom said to knock it off.
00:15:24 Like, we got to knock it off.
00:15:25 And it's like there was no dad.
00:15:27 It was like there was no dad to stop the fighting.
00:15:29 OK, so the question now, Max, is I think--
00:15:32 Except I also agree with AJ Brown.
00:15:33 What did AJ Brown say?
00:15:35 AJ Brown-- so AJ Brown has a burner.
00:15:39 That is his burner.
00:15:41 It's like his handle with an underscore.
00:15:43 OK.
00:15:44 And he said--
00:15:46 Wait, AJ Brown has a burner?
00:15:47 So it wasn't AJ Brown?
00:15:49 So it's a burner, but it's-- so people were like, oh, that's a fake tweet.
00:15:54 But then people are like, no, that's his burner.
00:15:56 Oh, that's awesome.
00:15:57 That's actually a genius idea.
00:15:58 That rules.
00:15:59 To do like a fake account of yourself.
00:16:01 Correct.
00:16:02 And be like, no, you missed it.
00:16:03 That's just-- that's an imposter, but it's actually you.
00:16:05 OK.
00:16:06 Yeah.
00:16:07 I gained a lot of respect for AJ Brown right now.
00:16:08 So I tweeted about it last night.
00:16:10 And then I got people being like, oh, you're fake.
00:16:12 And then people being like, no, that's actually real.
00:16:14 OK, so what did he say?
00:16:15 He said, Philly media is so lame.
00:16:17 It's literally something every day.
00:16:19 Then the fans be-- be believe this BS.
00:16:22 They really should start raising the prices of microphones and cameras
00:16:25 because you people will say anything for views.
00:16:28 I see why nobody likes us because we don't even like us.
00:16:30 Hashtag reality TV.
00:16:32 So AJ Brown's basically trying to be Shkreli for podcasters.
00:16:36 He's like, if we raise the price of these microphones, no one can podcast?
00:16:40 Yeah, that's what it sounds like to me.
00:16:41 Yeah.
00:16:42 Uh-oh.
00:16:43 I don't know if I agree with this, Max.
00:16:44 We talking to microphones for a living.
00:16:46 No, but I don't think he's talking-- I don't think he's talking about us.
00:16:48 Just Philly--
00:16:49 Actually, it's great for us because we already have the microphone so we can flip them.
00:16:52 What if they break?
00:16:54 I've only said positive things about AJ Brown.
00:16:56 All right, so Max, here's the big dilemma that you have now, though.
00:16:59 So Big Dom is the most important person in the Philadelphia Eagles organization.
00:17:04 I think we can all agree on that.
00:17:05 We all agree?
00:17:06 Yeah.
00:17:08 You need a Big Dom for Big Dom.
00:17:10 I got the guy.
00:17:11 The dude that's always-- the guy in the stands, the fan that has all the Philly mascots tattooed
00:17:16 with their butthole.
00:17:17 Oh, the belly button?
00:17:18 Yeah, belly button as his nose.
00:17:20 That should be Big Dom's guy.
00:17:21 No, no, see, the thing about Big Dom is that he doesn't need the spotlight.
00:17:24 Those guys don't need the spotlight.
00:17:26 Max, you just found out what happens when Big Dom gets suspended.
00:17:30 So next time a Dre Greenlaw situation happens, you need a Big Dom for Big Dom.
00:17:35 That was anti-Italian discrimination from the NFL.
00:17:37 Okay, so maybe you don't get an Italian to be Big Dom's Big Dom.
00:17:42 So that way, if they go to Italians, this guy, he's German.
00:17:47 He can walk in and be like, "Hey, stop."
00:17:49 Maybe he's not good at de-escalating.
00:17:51 He's Swiss.
00:17:52 No, but if you're German, you could keep an Italian in your pocket.
00:17:55 No, I think I want a Greek guy.
00:17:57 You want a Greek guy?
00:17:58 Yeah, close to Italian but not quite Italian.
00:18:01 Then he's going to start taking payments under the table.
00:18:04 That's fine.
00:18:05 Every Dom needs a sub, so you just get a hoagie that he walks around with.
00:18:09 But you realize that you need a Big Dom protector because he's the most important piece.
00:18:13 I'm willing to be the Big Dom protector.
00:18:15 Okay.
00:18:16 You would get him more fired up.
00:18:19 No, no, no, no.
00:18:21 You definitely are someone who doesn't get angry easily.
00:18:24 Actually, he would have to become your dad too.
00:18:26 No.
00:18:27 No, we don't need an Italian, Max.
00:18:29 That's the problem.
00:18:30 We have too many Italians on the Eagles' sideline.
00:18:32 It's a combustible situation.
00:18:34 I think maybe they need some wine.
00:18:36 Just calm down.
00:18:38 Just have a nice glass of red.
00:18:39 Maybe a cigar, get some cigars on the sideline.
00:18:42 I don't know.
00:18:43 Big Dom's an important piece of this program.
00:18:46 I believe that he is sorry for his actions last year, even though it was bullshit
00:18:51 and he should have never been punished.
00:18:54 I think that he knows that he is important and can't be taken off the sidelines again.
00:19:00 Yeah.
00:19:01 I think it's more of an accountability thing and Big Dom knows that he is now accountable.
00:19:07 Is it a good thing or is it a bad thing that your head coach is so emotionally fragile
00:19:11 that he needs a security guard next to him to keep him calm at all times?
00:19:14 Bad.
00:19:15 But then the fact that it's Big Dom, I kind of understand.
00:19:17 Because if we had a Big Dom, we need a Big Dom for this podcast.
00:19:20 We had a Big Dom.
00:19:21 Yeah, no, it really is one of those things that we said as a joke, but we were 100% serious
00:19:30 at the same time and we were right.
00:19:32 Big Dom was the most important piece of this eagle.
00:19:34 He's holding that whole project together.
00:19:36 He gets shot in the stomach next to the whole esplanade falls apart.
00:19:39 I mean, PFT said he's coming on the show.
00:19:41 He agreed to come on the show.
00:19:42 Yeah, we booked him.
00:19:43 Do you think Big Dom's going to get maybe a little extra sauce, extra gravy, little
00:19:47 box of ziti out of this?
00:19:48 He deserves it all.
00:19:49 I agree.
00:19:50 He should renegotiate his contract.
00:19:53 It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if the Eagles and Big Dom moved in other directions
00:19:57 from each other just as a Commander's fan.
00:19:59 That's how much I fear Big Dom.
00:20:00 Do you think Big Dom, if a team wanted to get Big Dom, how many draft picks would they
00:20:04 have to give up?
00:20:06 Fifth rounder?
00:20:08 No, I'd say six.
00:20:10 I wouldn't.
00:20:11 Sixth swap a seventh.
00:20:13 You talk about the Caleb Williams.
00:20:15 I wouldn't take the Caleb Williams.
00:20:16 You wouldn't take Caleb Williams for Big Dom?
00:20:18 Nah.
00:20:19 On a rookie deal?
00:20:20 Nah.
00:20:21 Nah.
00:20:22 Not the money though.
00:20:23 I actually, he's not crazy because I want Big Dom and I would maybe give up the first
00:20:28 pick.
00:20:29 You build around Big Dom.
00:20:30 We got our franchise security guard.
00:20:34 Build around Big Dom is a great t-shirt.
00:20:36 It actually is.
00:20:38 Build the whole wall out of Big Dom.
00:20:40 Build around Big Dom.
00:20:41 Yeah, build the whole airplane out of Big Dom.
00:20:43 You give me 53 Big Doms, I give you a Lombardi.
00:20:45 Is that easy?
00:20:46 Easy.
00:20:47 And Big Dom, to his credit, he did save your franchise quarterback from having a stadium
00:20:52 fall on him.
00:20:53 Yeah.
00:20:54 Is he the franchise quarterback?
00:20:55 That's a good question.
00:20:56 He didn't look like himself this year.
00:20:58 He was hurt.
00:20:59 There's something else going on in the sports world that I think we should talk about.
00:21:03 What?
00:21:04 We're on uniform watch in baseball.
00:21:05 Oh yeah.
00:21:06 Big time.
00:21:07 People are big mad about the new baseball uniforms.
00:21:09 Fanatics got cheap.
00:21:10 So it's Nike uniforms and I read an article about it.
00:21:14 I think I understand kind of how it works.
00:21:16 Nike gets to design the uniforms, then they send them to Fanatics to produce the uniforms.
00:21:21 So Fanatics makes them.
00:21:22 They put the Nike swoosh, they do all the uniform specs, and they look cheap now.
00:21:27 People are mad.
00:21:28 Players are mad.
00:21:29 Fans are mad.
00:21:30 I just saw today that players are a little bit worried about their balls showing in the
00:21:35 new pants.
00:21:36 And I saw one picture, it was some dude on the Giants.
00:21:38 Wait, this is a way to grow the game.
00:21:39 It might be a way to grow the game for sure.
00:21:42 The only thing, well you look it up.
00:21:43 The only thing I know about this whole story is people were blaming Fanatics and then Darren
00:21:47 Revell tweeted right away being like, "It's not Fanatics' fault," which just made me think
00:21:50 it was 100% Fanatics.
00:21:51 Yeah.
00:21:52 That was all I got.
00:21:53 You don't want Darren Revell defending you.
00:21:54 You look guilty as fuck.
00:21:55 It's like if you have a lawyer wearing a cowboy hat.
00:21:57 Yeah.
00:21:58 Like, that guy's guilty.
00:21:59 Yeah.
00:22:00 It was just instant.
00:22:01 I was like, "Yep, Fanatics' fault."
00:22:02 Okay, here we go.
00:22:03 Here's Casey Schmidt for the Giants, big cat.
00:22:05 Look at this.
00:22:06 Just balls.
00:22:07 Oh, those are just two big balls.
00:22:09 Just two big balls in these pants.
00:22:11 He looks like Frank Gore.
00:22:12 That's the on dick circle that you can see.
00:22:14 Yeah.
00:22:15 That's ... Okay, so they got to figure this out, but this is actually a good ... Now, if
00:22:19 I'm going full wrestling brain, this was smart by the MLB because we're talking about it.
00:22:23 That's true.
00:22:24 Way to stay relevant, baseball.
00:22:25 Way to stay relevant.
00:22:26 Just make some shitty uniforms that have everyone's balls showing.
00:22:29 Vogelbeck's going to look like Chris Christie at the NYPD softball game.
00:22:32 Oh man, that's going to be a problem.
00:22:34 That's going to be a big problem.
00:22:36 Yeah, but we're-
00:22:37 I actually can't ... Oh, I should ...
00:22:39 So people are complaining-
00:22:40 I wouldn't mind seeing ... Schwarber probably has a really big ball.
00:22:43 Oh, he's got ... Yeah, he's got a sack on him for sure.
00:22:46 Respectfully, all due respect, I'd knock it out of the park.
00:22:50 Jeff Van Gundy.
00:22:51 Don't they wear cups?
00:22:52 I think so.
00:22:53 Listen.
00:22:54 No.
00:22:55 Jeff Van Gundy.
00:22:56 Yeah.
00:22:57 Baseball players wear cups though, right?
00:22:58 I don't ... Depends on the position.
00:23:01 I would definitely wear a cup.
00:23:02 I don't think ... Like, outfielders don't.
00:23:04 I would definitely wear a cup.
00:23:06 Max?
00:23:07 Nah, you don't wear cups.
00:23:08 Unless you're a catcher.
00:23:09 Unless you're a catcher.
00:23:10 Yeah, you don't wear a cup.
00:23:11 I've gotten hit in the balls a couple times playing baseball.
00:23:14 I think that's a Little League thing.
00:23:16 You got the ... What are they?
00:23:18 The BMGs?
00:23:19 Big meaty clankers.
00:23:20 BMCs.
00:23:21 Big meaty clackers.
00:23:22 Yeah, because cup is restrictive in running.
00:23:24 It kind of is.
00:23:25 Yeah.
00:23:26 Yeah, I don't think they wear cups.
00:23:27 But also, yeah, in Little League you play on fields that have a lot of bad hops.
00:23:30 And also, you're just not good enough to stop the ball that's going to hit your balls.
00:23:36 That's true.
00:23:37 Like, a third baseman is not going to let a ball hit his balls.
00:23:41 Have you guys seen the actual uniforms?
00:23:42 Like, the tops?
00:23:43 Yeah, they're terrible.
00:23:44 The letters?
00:23:45 They don't ...
00:23:46 The letters are too small.
00:23:47 Everybody has seen uniforms that they buy from China, and they arrive, and you're like,
00:23:50 "Well, that doesn't look like the real thing."
00:23:51 Yeah.
00:23:52 That's kind of what these are.
00:23:53 Well, yeah, there's the $150 versions, or you get the $25 versions that aren't stitched.
00:23:58 Yeah, they're not ... I saw the Mariners patch on their arm, and it wasn't embroidered.
00:24:03 Really?
00:24:04 Yeah.
00:24:05 It was ironed on.
00:24:07 So it's become such a story now that what's going to happen is people are going to find
00:24:10 every single small part that's wrong with the uniform, and it'll become another story.
00:24:15 And then it's just going to snowball and snowball.
00:24:17 And all we want to do is just fucking see how Zion Williamson is the primary ball handler.
00:24:22 That's it.
00:24:23 That's it.
00:24:24 That's all sports fans want.
00:24:25 And now we're out here talking about baseball.
00:24:26 I want to know about the spin rate on Mike Clevenger's two-seamer.
00:24:29 That's a good story, though.
00:24:31 We also had Johnny Manziel with an all-time quote.
00:24:35 Did you guys see this when he-
00:24:37 Yeah, he lost 40 pounds in three months.
00:24:39 Yeah, and Shannon Sharp being like, "How'd you do that?"
00:24:43 And Johnny Manziel, he was just as honest as possible.
00:24:46 I was 170 pounds sitting in Vegas that August, that September, October, whatever it was later
00:24:55 in that year.
00:24:56 How do you lose 40 pounds?
00:24:57 You're on a strict diet of blow.
00:24:59 That's so great.
00:25:02 Yeah.
00:25:03 Fucking strict diet of blow, dude.
00:25:04 What do you want me to say?
00:25:05 It's a fact.
00:25:06 I hope he's not using it anymore because that is a big problem if you lose 40 pounds.
00:25:10 And you're only 210 pounds to begin with.
00:25:12 It's like when David Bowie had a whole entire year where he had to be fed like a baby.
00:25:18 All he drank was milk and hot peppers and cocaine.
00:25:21 Yeah.
00:25:22 David Bowie also got so bored with having sex with women that he started banging men.
00:25:26 Hey, listen.
00:25:27 Sex positive.
00:25:28 He went through every single hole.
00:25:29 Sex positive.
00:25:30 All right.
00:25:31 Before we do ... Hank, are you ready for your number five?
00:25:35 Wait.
00:25:36 Can we hold onto that for one second?
00:25:37 Because Big Cat wanted to bring up, there's two more things.
00:25:39 Oh, okay.
00:25:40 Just real quick, the other big storyline.
00:25:42 Justin Fields, he went on Steve Brown's podcast.
00:25:44 Yes.
00:25:45 They asked him about unfollowing the Bears on social media.
00:25:47 I was right.
00:25:48 He said that he didn't want to see NFL highlights.
00:25:51 Correct.
00:25:52 He was bored of the Bears.
00:25:53 He just doesn't want to see Bears highlights when he's going on vacation.
00:25:55 He said sometimes the girl that you like the most is the one that you're not following.
00:25:59 Yeah.
00:26:00 Is that true?
00:26:01 Yeah.
00:26:02 I didn't really understand that part of it.
00:26:03 I don't follow Sidney Sweeney.
00:26:04 That's cat.
00:26:05 Why?
00:26:06 How many Sidney Sweeney fan accounts do you follow?
00:26:09 Wait, so you sought that picture out on your own?
00:26:13 No, it was on a fan account.
00:26:14 Yeah.
00:26:15 The fan accounts are the horniest, always.
00:26:17 Correction, I do follow Sidney Sweeney.
00:26:19 Sometimes his girls ...
00:26:21 You know what?
00:26:22 I'm going to unfollow her.
00:26:23 Okay, there you go.
00:26:24 I'm getting mouse with her.
00:26:25 How do you like that?
00:26:26 That'll get our attention.
00:26:27 Maybe it was a ploy to get the Bears attention, because I bet Sidney Sweeney's going to see
00:26:31 this and be like, "Wait, why did Big Cat unfollow?"
00:26:33 Yeah.
00:26:34 Maybe I should reach out to see if there's a problem.
00:26:36 We also, after everyone freaked out about Justin Fields unfollowing the Bears, Matt
00:26:42 Iberflues debuted a new beard, so got a new coach.
00:26:47 He looks totally different.
00:26:48 That's good.
00:26:49 He looks like a winning football coach now.
00:26:51 He basically is like, "You know what?
00:26:53 I know this marriage isn't going well.
00:26:54 Let me change something up."
00:26:55 Look at him.
00:26:56 Tell me that's not a fucking football coach now.
00:26:59 When did you hire Brad Pitt?
00:27:01 I know.
00:27:02 Guy's hot.
00:27:03 He's going to win some games.
00:27:05 So things are looking up.
00:27:07 Sure.
00:27:08 Would you rather have Big Dom or a new beard on your coach?
00:27:10 New beard on your coach.
00:27:11 Easy, easy.
00:27:12 Oh, Big Dom's so bad.
00:27:13 How many draft picks would-
00:27:14 Big Dom's so bad.
00:27:17 The other thing was that Charlie Woods, he's trying to qualify for a PGA tournament today.
00:27:22 He actually didn't shoot that-
00:27:23 Don't say the score.
00:27:24 He didn't shoot that bad.
00:27:25 We're pro Charlie Woods.
00:27:26 We are Charlie Woods.
00:27:27 He got a-
00:27:28 Delete it.
00:27:29 But he got a 12 on the seventh.
00:27:30 Then he rebounded with six straight pars.
00:27:31 That's mental toughness.
00:27:32 Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
00:27:33 People are talking about the 12.
00:27:34 When was the last time you got an octuple bogey-
00:27:37 And then it's six pars in a row.
00:27:38 And then hit six pars in a row.
00:27:39 I bet you Tiger's never done that in his entire life.
00:27:41 Keep your head up, Charlie.
00:27:42 Facts.
00:27:43 Also, if you get a 12 on a hold, that just means you're not good at cheating.
00:27:47 Yeah.
00:27:48 You need to get better at cheating.
00:27:49 Yeah.
00:27:50 Yeah, no.
00:27:51 That was, listen, everyone's trying to bash him.
00:27:52 No, he's the next stop.
00:27:54 You mark that a nine, and then you keep it moving.
00:27:57 Wasn't he qualifying?
00:27:58 He was trying to qualify for a PGA event.
00:28:00 Yeah, the event I'm calling next week.
00:28:01 Oh, okay.
00:28:02 So there you go.
00:28:03 That would have been great if Charlie Woods had been in it.
00:28:04 Yeah.
00:28:05 He should get an exemption.
00:28:06 Jake, can you give him a Jake exemption?
00:28:08 Charlie Woods, you are playing in next week's event.
00:28:10 No, what you should do is you should just randomly just start calling Charlie Woods
00:28:14 highlights without anything on the screen.
00:28:16 Here's Charlie Woods.
00:28:17 I'll try to work that in.
00:28:18 Yeah.
00:28:19 All right, before we do Hank's number five patriot of all time.
00:28:23 Proper number 12 Irish whiskey.
00:28:25 That's right.
00:28:26 Proper 12 is rich and smooth.
00:28:28 It's Irish whiskey.
00:28:30 They've also got the proper number 12 Irish apple whiskey, which is the best sipping whiskey
00:28:35 that you can have.
00:28:36 Just pass a bottle around, pour it on ice, pour it in a glass.
00:28:39 You can even mix it.
00:28:40 It's great, great stuff.
00:28:42 I love drinking it.
00:28:43 They sent us a bunch when they came on as a sponsor.
00:28:45 Put it on my bar cart.
00:28:46 That stuff went fast.
00:28:48 It's crisp and fresh, especially the Irish apple.
00:28:50 It was founded by Conor McGregor.
00:28:52 You can shoot your shot of proper number 12 Irish whiskey and pour the roar.
00:28:56 Order your bottle of proper number 12 Irish whiskey with drizzly.
00:28:59 Check it out.
00:29:00 Okay, Hank.
00:29:01 Actually, I have one more thing before we do your patriot.
00:29:05 I saw a list today that I would like people to take a guess at, which may be an insult
00:29:11 list for some of us here.
00:29:13 Worst win percentages in the past 10 years in all four major sports.
00:29:19 Minnesota.
00:29:21 Worst.
00:29:22 It's all combined.
00:29:24 Is it Minnesota the worst?
00:29:25 Minnesota is not the worst.
00:29:26 No, no, no.
00:29:27 Sorry.
00:29:28 It's each franchise separate.
00:29:29 Do you understand what I'm saying?
00:29:32 The Mets, it wouldn't be all New York sports, it would be the Mets.
00:29:35 Oh, got it.
00:29:37 Yeah, yeah.
00:29:38 Anyone take a guess for number one.
00:29:40 Wait, so it's just one franchise?
00:29:42 One franchise, but it goes across all four major sports.
00:29:45 It's ranked.
00:29:46 I have a guess.
00:29:47 The worst 25.
00:29:48 No, this is not an insult.
00:29:50 The first.
00:29:51 The New York Giants.
00:29:52 No, it was the Jacksonville Jaguars, which kind of shocked me.
00:29:56 Yeah, I mean, Chaps always brings out these weird stats about the Jaguars every time they
00:29:59 win a game, and it's like, oh, this is the first time since 1999 that they've won eight
00:30:05 games in back-to-back seasons.
00:30:06 You're like, what the fuck?
00:30:07 Yeah.
00:30:08 So it's.
00:30:09 Show me the Pirates.
00:30:10 Pirates are not on there.
00:30:13 They won like 97 games in 2016 or '15, or 98 games, and that was a Schwarber home run.
00:30:22 Jets are number two, Pistons three, Giants four, Browns five.
00:30:27 PFT, unfortunately, we're brothers again.
00:30:32 Bears are nine, Commanders are 10.
00:30:35 It's been tough.
00:30:36 Yeah.
00:30:37 Knicks are 11.
00:30:38 The one that was, what was the shocking one?
00:30:41 Oh, the Blackhawks being 25 was pretty shocking because I guess it has been a while.
00:30:44 Stanley Cups.
00:30:45 Yeah, but it's been a while since that happened, and they've been really bad since.
00:30:48 The Lakers are 13.
00:30:50 Really?
00:30:51 Yeah.
00:30:52 They were really bad in between Kobe and LeBron.
00:30:55 A few bad seasons, yeah.
00:30:56 Yeah, but I just saw this and I was like, "Oh, that's interesting.
00:30:59 Timberwolves were 14, Hank.
00:31:00 That was your first Minnesota team."
00:31:03 And then everyone else I think was clear except the Wizards.
00:31:06 Yeah.
00:31:07 The Wizards are not on there.
00:31:08 We had some good seasons with Paul Pierce and with John Wall.
00:31:12 Yeah, the basketball teams are the Pistons at three, the Magic at six, the Lakers at
00:31:17 13, the Timberwolves at 14, Hornets at 20.
00:31:21 That's all the basketball.
00:31:23 So you're clear.
00:31:24 I'm surprised the Hornets aren't higher.
00:31:26 Yeah.
00:31:27 Yeah, I was a little shocked at this list because the top five made sense, and it really
00:31:32 does show the Giants and Jets, two and four, is pretty bad.
00:31:36 And if you zoom out a little bit on the Giants, obviously the two Super Bowls, awesome.
00:31:40 Right.
00:31:41 Maybe two of the best Super Bowl wins that you can ever have.
00:31:43 So you've had some good times in there, but besides those, if the Giants aren't winning
00:31:47 the Super Bowl, they're not doing shit that year.
00:31:49 Yeah, it is funny looking at this and being like, "Oh, if you've won a title in the
00:31:52 last 20 years, that doesn't mean ... " You'd still take it like the Royals were 24th.
00:31:57 Yeah.
00:31:58 You'd still take it.
00:31:59 Absolutely.
00:32:00 100% would take it.
00:32:01 The Lakers, well, that didn't count as a bubble title.
00:32:03 And the Bears almost won the Super Bowl in 2018.
00:32:07 They were just three games away.
00:32:09 All right, Hank.
00:32:11 Number five, Patriot of all time, as reported by Hank Lockwood.
00:32:15 First recap, number six.
00:32:17 Number six was defense.
00:32:19 Defense wins championships.
00:32:20 He made two crucial plays against the Seahawks, one against the Seahawks, one against the
00:32:25 Falcons.
00:32:26 Malcolm Butler.
00:32:27 It's Dante Hightower.
00:32:29 Oh.
00:32:30 Number five, also defense.
00:32:32 Oh.
00:32:33 Early era, first Dynasty won.
00:32:36 Teddy Burski?
00:32:38 Swaggiest, probably swaggiest Patriot, maybe on this whole list.
00:32:43 Oh, we already ... It's Ty Law or ...
00:32:47 Old Tom Brady, his house.
00:32:49 Old Tom Brady, Ty Molloy, Ty Law?
00:32:50 Ty Law.
00:32:51 Ty Law.
00:32:52 Ty Law.
00:32:53 All right.
00:32:54 Hey, so that's number five.
00:32:55 That's number five.
00:32:56 You think he's the swaggiest Patriot?
00:32:59 On this list, I think he might be.
00:33:01 Wow.
00:33:02 Can we do a top 10 swaggiest?
00:33:03 Yeah.
00:33:04 Well, I mean, the Patriots aren't the swaggiest team.
00:33:06 That's kind of the whole Patriot way.
00:33:10 Is four going to offense?
00:33:12 Four is going to offense.
00:33:14 Whoa, can't wait for Monday.
00:33:16 Devlin.
00:33:18 No.
00:33:21 I was trying to put Kevin Falk on this list, but my friends weren't having any of that.
00:33:25 Wait, I thought this was your list.
00:33:27 It is.
00:33:28 No, I'm saying we are arguing-
00:33:29 Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:33:30 For what he meant to the team.
00:33:31 Do we have to start over?
00:33:32 This whole list started with me being like, I've been fighting with my friends.
00:33:33 Or not fighting, but debating for the last day.
00:33:35 But if you wanted to put him on, it's your list.
00:33:37 But they show him ... I wish I could put him on his list, but I-
00:33:42 We might have to start over.
00:33:44 This feels like Hank's friends list, not Hank's list.
00:33:46 It's my list.
00:33:47 He's an honorable mention.
00:33:48 We'll do one member, one honorable mention per show.
00:33:52 Kevin Falk is tonight's-
00:33:54 Honorable mention.
00:33:55 What number is he in the honorable mentions?
00:33:57 Two.
00:33:58 Okay.
00:33:59 So ahead of the Lighthouse.
00:34:02 Because one was ... Who was one?
00:34:05 Bethel Johnson.
00:34:06 Right.
00:34:07 Okay, so Bethel Johnson number one.
00:34:08 Now we're going in reverse in terms of ranking the honorable mention guys.
00:34:12 Mm-hmm.
00:34:13 Okay, so-
00:34:14 Yeah, I'd rather you go 10 to one on the honorable mentions.
00:34:16 All right, I don't know if I have 10, but I can add some more.
00:34:19 So on Monday, we're going to get the number four patriot of all time and the number 10
00:34:24 honorable mention.
00:34:25 Yep.
00:34:26 It was also just cool when they had a guy named Ty Law and then Lawyer Molloy also in
00:34:30 the same backfield.
00:34:31 That's cool.
00:34:32 Yeah.
00:34:33 That's very cool.
00:34:34 All right, Hank, do you feel good about that?
00:34:36 Yeah, I feel good.
00:34:37 You think people are going to come at you?
00:34:39 I was-
00:34:40 Well, they don't know what the rest of the list is.
00:34:42 Yeah.
00:34:43 I thought he only played in two Super Bowls.
00:34:45 Well, he played in three, but one was '97.
00:34:48 But he only played in two.
00:34:50 He only won two Super Bowls.
00:34:51 Yeah, he was hurt in 2003.
00:34:53 So number four, I'm going to guess Jules.
00:34:55 No, I think we said Jules was three.
00:34:58 No, because I think he's going to go defense three.
00:35:00 I think he's going to go-
00:35:01 Gronk two?
00:35:02 Yeah, Gronk's going to be two.
00:35:03 It's going to be either-
00:35:04 Wait, you think Gronk's going to be ahead of Jules?
00:35:06 Yeah, I think so.
00:35:07 Oh my God, I can't wait for Monday.
00:35:09 I wish someone could knock me over the head right now and I just wake up and it's Sunday
00:35:13 night and we're recording the pod.
00:35:15 It's going to be either Brewski, Will Fork, or Willie McGinnis at number three.
00:35:22 Oh man.
00:35:23 When are we going to start going back to seven through ten?
00:35:25 That's when you get to one, then you go to ten.
00:35:27 Okay.
00:35:28 But I want them to go evens first, so ten, eight, and then nine, seven.
00:35:32 JJ wouldn't understand this level of broadcast.
00:35:35 [laughter]
00:35:37 What a teaser.
00:35:39 Who's it going to be?
00:35:41 Can you tell us?
00:35:43 Does it go offense, defense, offense, offense?
00:35:48 Starting at one?
00:35:49 No, starting at four.
00:35:51 Starting at four, it goes offense, defense, offense, offense.
00:35:54 Yeah, so I think I'm right on the money with this.
00:35:57 No, I think Jules is going to be-
00:35:58 No, it said defense number three.
00:36:00 Yeah, I know.
00:36:01 I think Jules is going to be two.
00:36:02 No chance, no chance.
00:36:03 Wow.
00:36:04 Hank is playing this not from a level of friendship, but from a level of patriotism.
00:36:09 Oh, remember when he didn't put Jules on the Mount Rushmore of Guess?
00:36:14 Yeah, I do remember that.
00:36:15 But in this-
00:36:16 He did.
00:36:17 That was really bad.
00:36:18 No matter what, he's on the Mount Rushmore.
00:36:20 So what you're doing right now is you're bullying Hank into changing Jules-
00:36:23 I'm not.
00:36:24 Being the number two.
00:36:25 No, Jake has the master list.
00:36:26 And this is also, four through one is Mount Rushmore.
00:36:29 So, buzz off.
00:36:31 True, but still there's a difference between two and four.
00:36:34 Big difference.
00:36:36 I don't think so.
00:36:37 Oh, yeah.
00:36:38 Two gets to the BCS, four doesn't.
00:36:40 Chris Long is not on the list.
00:36:41 Honorable mention?
00:36:44 I didn't like that he went to the Eagles after, so I don't know.
00:36:46 No.
00:36:47 That really, that-
00:36:48 And he likes Philadelphia more.
00:36:49 Way more.
00:36:50 Way more.
00:36:51 Way more.
00:36:52 Yeah, he was kind of playing into him and Lane Johnson being like, "They have no fun over there."
00:36:56 Blah, blah, blah.
00:36:57 Yeah.
00:36:58 Yeah, he does kind of hate the Patriots.
00:37:00 He's the only person that won a Super Bowl with the Patriots, then beat the Patriots next year in a Super Bowl.
00:37:04 Wrong.
00:37:05 Who else?
00:37:06 LeGarret Blount.
00:37:07 LeGarret Blount.
00:37:08 He's an honorable mention, though.
00:37:10 Oh, no, don't ruin it.
00:37:12 By the way, ranking these one through four, we forgot to mention, I know we said it on Wednesday, the college football playoff,
00:37:18 but it's very funny watching Notre Dame fans realize that they're fucked.
00:37:21 Yeah, it is.
00:37:22 It's great.
00:37:23 It's just been a slow-
00:37:24 And then some were coming after me saying they actually wanted this.
00:37:26 Why?
00:37:27 Why?
00:37:28 Guaranteed a home game.
00:37:29 Oh, that's a hell of a spin zone.
00:37:30 That's the 5-12 game.
00:37:31 That's a crazy spin zone.
00:37:32 So if they're the number one team in the country, they're going to want to play a first-round game?
00:37:36 No chance.
00:37:37 That does kind of rock that you get to go to a home game, though.
00:37:40 But still, no chance.
00:37:41 If they're the number one team in the country and they have to now play an extra game.
00:37:44 Right.
00:37:45 If you were asked, "Would you rather get an extra home game or be ranked in the top four and get a bye?"
00:37:49 You would take the bye, but I think a home playoff game is a pretty good consolation.
00:37:53 Yeah, people have been getting their shots in at Notre Dame.
00:37:56 Not relevant, they're saying.
00:37:58 Sad to see.
00:37:59 Real sad to see.
00:38:00 Should have joined a conference.
00:38:01 Why don't you just pony up and join a conference?
00:38:03 Big Ten will maybe take you.
00:38:05 Big Ten will take him in a fucking heartbeat.
00:38:08 Okay, let's get to our interviews.
00:38:09 We have great interviews.
00:38:10 Doug McDermott and then Mark Titus are doing a college basketball preview, get you ready for March, which is what, a week away?
00:38:16 Yeah, it's pretty much March.
00:38:18 Ooh, a week away.
00:38:20 Can't wait.
00:38:21 We have to wait an extra day because of the leap year.
00:38:23 Motherfucker.
00:38:24 But it's the third birthday part of my take.
00:38:25 Oh, yeah, good point.
00:38:26 That's true.
00:38:27 We are three.
00:38:28 Okay, before we do, Greg McDermott, PFTEU had a quick word from one of our sponsors.
00:38:33 Yeah, before we get to Greg McDermott, he's brought to you by Rocket Money.
00:38:35 Do you ever feel like money is just flying out of your account and you have no idea where it's going?
00:38:39 Well, I know.
00:38:40 Time out.
00:38:41 Time out.
00:38:42 We're going to have to restart the ad.
00:38:44 Hank's brain just broke.
00:38:45 Wait, I was wrong.
00:38:46 It's the second birthday.
00:38:47 Yeah, what the fuck?
00:38:48 We're not 12 years old.
00:38:49 We're not 12 years old.
00:38:50 I was so confused for a second.
00:38:51 It would be the second.
00:38:52 No, it's the third.
00:38:53 Wait, the pod-- no, the podcast started on the--
00:38:55 16.
00:38:56 The podcast started in February 29th of 2016.
00:39:00 Right.
00:39:01 That would mean that our first birthday was February 29th of 2020.
00:39:04 All right, good job, Hank.
00:39:05 Time back in.
00:39:06 Second birthday.
00:39:07 Game on.
00:39:08 Yes.
00:39:09 This math and Greg McDermott is brought to you by Rocket Money.
00:39:12 You guys ever feel like money is just flying out of your account and you don't know where it's going?
00:39:16 I know.
00:39:17 It's all those subscriptions.
00:39:18 Think about it.
00:39:19 It's between streaming services, fitness apps, delivery services, parenting apps, maybe if

00:40:18 And now, here's Greg McDermott.
00:40:20 Okay, we now welcome on a very special guest.
00:40:23 It is head coach of the Creighton Blue Jays.
00:40:26 It is Greg McDermott off of a huge, huge win.
00:40:30 Coach, first of all, thanks for joining us.
00:40:32 I wanted to go back quickly to Tuesday night.
00:40:36 You beat number one UConn.
00:40:38 Incredible game by your guys.
00:40:40 It was also your 600th victory, so congratulations on that.
00:40:44 And you said that it was one of the biggest wins in school history and one of those big, not tide-changing wins,
00:40:52 but one that people will remember.
00:40:54 We've had 48 hours. Are we sticking with that?
00:40:57 Yeah, I think it was important simply because we've had six shots at the number one team in our history
00:41:05 and we weren't able to get a win.
00:41:07 And to do it against a UConn team that was playing so well,
00:41:12 and to your point, really important this time of the year as we move closer to the NCAA tournament, the Big East tournament.
00:41:18 So it just kind of solidifies your resume and hopefully sets you up for seeding.
00:41:24 But from start to finish, our crowd was absolutely phenomenal.
00:41:28 They were into it from the jump and it was one of the better environments I've ever been part of.
00:41:33 Yeah, by the way, I did a bad job of asking that question because it made it seem like I was expecting you to be like,
00:41:37 "No, I've looked back and it's not that important."
00:41:40 I'm a big believer as a sports fan, as a diehard sports fan, you have to embrace the ride.
00:41:45 And those big wins, like, okay, maybe it doesn't end up in the national championships this year.
00:41:50 Hopefully it does for you.
00:41:51 But fan bases have to enjoy those big moments because those are special nights that you can't just brush off
00:41:56 and be like, "Oh, it's another Tuesday night in February."
00:41:59 Yeah, and college basketball is hard.
00:42:02 Trying to beat a team like UConn is very difficult.
00:42:06 They're elite in so many different ways, offensively, defensively, on the glass.
00:42:11 Obviously, they take on Danny's personality with the way they play and the toughness that they play with.
00:42:17 So, yeah, you have to play a hell of a game.
00:42:19 So when you find a way to beat them, and we've been fortunate.
00:42:23 We've had some success against them.
00:42:27 But you don't take it for granted because it's hard to win, especially in this league.
00:42:31 So you go down early.
00:42:32 They kind of punched you in the mouth right off the bat.
00:42:34 I feel like most teams kind of crumble because it's UConn.
00:42:37 They get intimidated, whether it's Coach Hurley or their reputation, what they've done in the past,
00:42:41 what they've accomplished.
00:42:42 But you guys bounce back after.
00:42:44 Can you give yourself some credit for, "Hey, that's a pretty good job coaching that I did"?
00:42:49 Yeah, I don't know about that.
00:42:51 It was a bad job coaching the first four minutes of the game because we were behind 11-3.
00:42:56 But I think a lot of it was Trey Alexander and Ryan Kalkbrenner.
00:43:01 Kalk's been here four years, Trey three years.
00:43:03 We've had success against UConn.
00:43:05 So a lot of teams haven't.
00:43:07 And I think because of the fact that we've had some success in the past,
00:43:11 and while we got absolutely spanked at their place, we did some really good things defensively.
00:43:17 We held them to 62 points, their field goal percentage.
00:43:21 In fact, the field goal percentage was not good.
00:43:23 We just were atrocious offensively, and most of it had to do with them.
00:43:26 So I don't think our guys were concerned because we've had success against them in the past.
00:43:32 And once we got the crowd in the game, all bets were off.
00:43:35 It was a difficult place to play the rest of the night for UConn.
00:43:39 Yeah, one last question about UConn, and this is a Dan Hurley question.
00:43:42 We're friends with Dan, so full bias out there.
00:43:47 And we have a theory, and I want to know from the opposing coach's box,
00:43:52 when he drinks that mushroom tea at the beginning of the game and it looks like he's drinking piss,
00:43:56 that's a little intimidating, right?
00:43:59 I've always wondered what was in that.
00:44:02 It's piss. It's piss.
00:44:05 It's a fun game, and we've had some great battles with UConn.
00:44:11 But at Creighton, our fans don't come to watch the opposing team play.
00:44:15 They come to watch us play, and that's different than most places.
00:44:19 But Danny does a great job, and he's so intense.
00:44:25 And I'm friends with Danny, too.
00:44:28 Off the floor, he's an awesome guy, and the game starts, and he's a little bit psychotic,
00:44:34 but that's who he is, and that's how he coaches.
00:44:37 He gets every last bit of energy out of every one of his guys
00:44:40 and deserves a lot of credit for the success they've had.
00:44:43 Yeah, and coaches in college basketball especially, because the rosters change year to year.
00:44:48 I love guys who stay a while.
00:44:51 You've been at Creighton for a long time.
00:44:53 Do you see what fans start to--the teams take on the image of their coach,
00:44:58 and you get Greg McDermott going against Danny Hurley every year.
00:45:02 That's fun. That's what I like to tune into.
00:45:06 Yeah, it's fun to develop those rivalries.
00:45:11 You're not getting anything easy.
00:45:15 We're not getting our pet plays against UConn,
00:45:19 and they're probably not getting theirs against us.
00:45:21 Just because we've coached against each other, we know each other, we know tendencies,
00:45:25 and then at the end of the day, it comes down to players,
00:45:27 and that's really what it's all about anyway.
00:45:29 If you don't have good players, you're not beating UConn.
00:45:33 If you don't have pretty good players, you're probably not beating Creighton.
00:45:36 So it's fun to have some guys that have been in the league a long time,
00:45:41 and those rivalries--even though we're a long ways apart,
00:45:46 I think we've developed a pretty healthy rivalry with UConn.
00:45:49 Especially in the Big East, it's always been about having coaches with big personalities
00:45:52 and the ongoing rivalries that they have and the battles that they go through with each other.
00:45:57 So in terms of the league, the Big East especially,
00:46:00 who is your favorite coach to go up against,
00:46:03 whether it's somebody that brings something different out of you
00:46:06 or someone where you just enjoy the competition with that person?
00:46:10 Yeah, UConn is certainly one team that I really enjoy competing against
00:46:13 because you find out if you're doing your job well.
00:46:16 But there's so many great coaches in this league.
00:46:19 Ed Cooley is a great friend of mine that's been well-documented.
00:46:23 He bought me dinner in Omaha this year, so it's good when he comes to town
00:46:29 because I can send him the check because of that contract he's got over there.
00:46:33 But across the board, from Sean Miller to Shaka to Thad Mata,
00:46:39 Shaheen's done a great job at Seton Hall this year.
00:46:44 Right on down the line, it's really a league of really good coaches
00:46:49 and a lot of good guys.
00:46:50 And for the most part, we get along pretty well.
00:46:54 We're a basketball-centric league, and we're only going to survive
00:46:57 if our men's basketball programs are doing well.
00:47:01 So a lot of guys have done a lot for this conference.
00:47:04 Yeah, on that point, I know it's been a while.
00:47:07 I think it was 2013 you guys joined the Big East,
00:47:11 but it's something that is now happening in college sports
00:47:14 basically every year where teams are going up, teams are going down,
00:47:17 there's all this transition.
00:47:18 What was the biggest hurdle when you went from Missouri Valley to Big East
00:47:25 and you took that step up in class?
00:47:27 Because we're going to see it many, many more times
00:47:29 with teams going up and down, left and right.
00:47:32 Yeah, fortunately for us, Big Cat, when we made that move,
00:47:36 that was Doug's senior year.
00:47:37 So Grant Gibbs, Doug, Johans Mattingett, Ethan Rogge, those guys were seniors.
00:47:42 You could have taken that group into any conference in the country
00:47:45 and they were going to have a chance to be successful.
00:47:47 And I think it's so important that you have success early
00:47:51 and you show that you belong.
00:47:53 And I think that group really blazed the trail for what's followed.
00:47:57 And we had a little blip in the radar the next year
00:48:00 because the guys that were playing behind that group
00:48:04 were recruited to play in the Missouri Valley.
00:48:06 And while we didn't have a great record that year,
00:48:10 we got better and some of the younger guys in our program grew.
00:48:14 But thank God we made the move in this day and age
00:48:18 with what's happening with mid-majors and with the transfer portal.
00:48:21 And I felt it's difficult.
00:48:23 So I think you have to have a seat at the right table.
00:48:26 And I'd like to think--
00:48:28 certainly the Big East has done a lot for our institution
00:48:31 and our athletic program.
00:48:32 And I'd like to think that we've added some value there as well.
00:48:35 The fact that we were able to get off to a good start,
00:48:37 finish second in the league the first year,
00:48:39 get to the--we got beat by Providence in the Big East title game,
00:48:42 I think had a lot to do with what the trajectory that we've had since.
00:48:46 Yeah, how did you recruit Doug McDermott?
00:48:48 He went to Northern Iowa to start when I was coaching at Iowa State.
00:48:53 He actually signed with Northern Iowa.
00:48:55 And then when I came over here, we were in the same conference
00:48:57 and he wasn't excited about playing against me twice a year.
00:49:01 But I sleep with his mom, so that gives me--
00:49:04 There it is.
00:49:05 It gives me an outside chance.
00:49:07 I was setting you up for that because I had seen you say it.
00:49:10 I knew you were going.
00:49:11 It's a great line.
00:49:12 I got him because I slept with his mom.
00:49:14 Also, I'm going back and looking at it, and there's a rumor out there,
00:49:17 maybe you can dispel it, that he got tens of thousands of free meals
00:49:21 before he came to play for us.
00:49:23 He got a lot of that.
00:49:25 Actually, his senior year, back in the days without any NIL,
00:49:29 Grant Gibbs got a six-year of eligibility,
00:49:32 and we didn't have a scholarship.
00:49:33 So we put Gibbs on scholarship and Doug became a walk on his senior year.
00:49:37 He actually still owes me for that.
00:49:39 Oh, yeah.
00:49:40 I paid his tuition his senior year.
00:49:41 You'd think that would come around at some point,
00:49:45 but he still hasn't paid that check.
00:49:47 Interesting.
00:49:48 I want to go back to maybe a sore memory from last year.
00:49:51 You guys made a little run in the tournament,
00:49:53 unfortunately didn't end the way that you wanted,
00:49:55 against San Diego State.
00:49:58 I'm curious from your perspective, do you go back,
00:50:01 do you watch that game film?
00:50:03 Do you try to erase it from your memory because of the way that it ended?
00:50:06 And then moving forward, did you watch the final four,
00:50:08 or were you just in a place where it's like,
00:50:10 "I'm so devastated by this, I don't want to watch college basketball"?
00:50:14 I finally watched the game on the last recruiting trip in July
00:50:18 on the way home.
00:50:20 So recruiting was over for the summer.
00:50:22 I was going to go play some golf for a few weeks,
00:50:24 and I'm like, "All right, let's exercise this demon
00:50:26 and watch that game."
00:50:28 And it was a hell of a game.
00:50:30 It could have went either way, and it came down to the very end.
00:50:33 I watched the final four.
00:50:35 I like hoops.
00:50:36 Brian Dutcher is a good friend of mine,
00:50:38 obviously UConn being in the tournament.
00:50:40 I wanted to follow that.
00:50:42 But it's hard to get on that doorstep and be knocking on that door.
00:50:47 A lot of things have to fall right from a matchup perspective,
00:50:50 and your team has to play at a high level.
00:50:54 I hope we'll get back there.
00:50:55 I hope we'll have another chance at it at some point during my career.
00:50:58 But I also didn't want it to define what was a very good season
00:51:02 by that group of guys last year.
00:51:05 So if I don't want the guys to feel like that to find the season,
00:51:11 then I can't act that way either.
00:51:13 Yeah, yeah.
00:51:14 How often do you practice free throws with your team?
00:51:17 Because that's a big thing when I'm watching college hoops.
00:51:20 You've got to make your free throws.
00:51:22 And I don't know if you saw, but we did a free throw challenge.
00:51:24 Yeah, I did.
00:51:25 Yeah, I mean that was impressive.
00:51:26 Thankfully we shoot them better than you guys.
00:51:28 Wait, well hold on.
00:51:29 We hit 41 in a row with the mulligan.
00:51:31 What did it take?
00:51:32 How many hours?
00:51:33 16 hours.
00:51:34 16?
00:51:35 That's a lot of free throws, Coach.
00:51:36 41.
00:51:37 I think I made it.
00:51:38 Was Frank involved in that, or was he not part of it?
00:51:41 No, no.
00:51:42 Because Frank wasn't very nice to me after that Seton Hall game in Jersey.
00:51:45 [laughs]
00:51:46 That's – listen.
00:51:47 Somebody sent me that.
00:51:48 The dude killed me.
00:51:49 That's when you know you've made it, though,
00:51:51 when Frank the Tank has shown his ire at you if you're in sports.
00:51:56 It's like, yeah, I finally got on his radar.
00:51:58 But yeah, listen, we 41 free throws in a row.
00:52:01 Do you practice them every single day?
00:52:04 Because I hope so.
00:52:05 We do.
00:52:06 We do.
00:52:07 Our guys have to make a certain amount of free throws in a row
00:52:09 before they leave practice every day.
00:52:11 How many?
00:52:12 Sometimes it's eight.
00:52:14 Sometimes it's 12.
00:52:15 Sometimes it's 14.
00:52:16 It just kind of depends where the clock's at at that particular time.
00:52:20 But fortunately, we've – knock on wood, I hate to say it,
00:52:23 but we've been a pretty good free throw shooting team.
00:52:25 So, if PFT and I were on your team, we would actually be your best players
00:52:29 because we'd never leave practice.
00:52:30 We'd just always be at practice.
00:52:32 First in, last out.
00:52:33 How long would it take you guys individually to make 12 in a row?
00:52:36 12 in a row?
00:52:37 Big Cat can get hot.
00:52:38 Yeah, I could make 12 in a row in a half hour.
00:52:40 I'm not what you'd call a basketball player.
00:52:42 So, it would probably – if you asked me to make eight in a row,
00:52:45 it would probably take me five, six hours to be able to accomplish that.
00:52:49 But it could get done.
00:52:50 Yeah, it could get done.
00:52:51 That's a guy that's in the gym, though.
00:52:53 Yeah, it could get done.
00:52:55 Well, one other thing that I've seen you do, Coach,
00:52:57 and I'm not sure if you can still do it, but I saw a video of you dunking at practice.
00:53:01 Can you still dunk?
00:53:03 I haven't tried.
00:53:04 My goal was to do it when I was 50, and I did do it when I was 50.
00:53:09 May or may not have slipped a women's basketball under the rack
00:53:12 sometimes during practice with the manager of the year,
00:53:16 but I was able to get it done.
00:53:18 But, you know, now my – I don't want to blow an Achilles or a hamstring
00:53:23 trying to do something stupid at 59, so I've shelved that one.
00:53:27 Well, what about if you win the championship, if you win the natty,
00:53:30 will you try to dunk again to celebrate?
00:53:31 I will. I will do that.
00:53:33 Okay.
00:53:34 If we win it, you guys –
00:53:36 I like that.
00:53:37 Yeah.
00:53:38 You can come to our – we'll host you, and we'll have a big –
00:53:40 Done.
00:53:41 Greg McTermitt dunk-off.
00:53:43 Yeah.
00:53:44 All right, so now we might need room for you.
00:53:46 We're going to need an elite physical therapist
00:53:48 to do some stretching before and after.
00:53:51 We can get you some.
00:53:52 We can get it there.
00:53:53 Yeah.
00:53:54 We can get it.
00:53:55 Yeah.
00:53:56 How many times have you had McDonald's with Warren Buffett?
00:54:00 Never.
00:54:01 What?
00:54:02 But you see – you know, you see Warren in a restaurant in Omaha
00:54:07 once in a while.
00:54:08 He was – he doesn't come around a lot to games,
00:54:11 but he was at Doug's senior night.
00:54:13 He was very upset with the official that called that foul against us
00:54:17 on San Diego State last year, and he made it well-known.
00:54:20 But obviously, he's done a lot for this community.
00:54:24 Yeah, it would be great if you went out to eat with him
00:54:26 and you picked up the check.
00:54:28 That would be such a power move, wouldn't it?
00:54:29 Yeah.
00:54:30 That would be a big-time power move.
00:54:31 Yeah, you should.
00:54:32 If I saw him eating in a restaurant, I'd just point across the table.
00:54:35 I'd be like, hey, I want to cover that guy's bill.
00:54:36 I got his.
00:54:37 Yeah.
00:54:38 So, going back to Doug real quick, we see it obviously all the time
00:54:42 in college basketball.
00:54:43 A lot of times, they'll be – the coach will have their son on the team.
00:54:47 But very few times, you know, you guys have the success
00:54:51 that you guys had together.
00:54:53 Was it hard coaching your son and kind of balancing that
00:54:57 where it's like he's one of the guys, but he's also your son,
00:55:01 and you have to – maybe there's moments where you're sitting there
00:55:03 watching the game and you're just proud of your son,
00:55:06 but you're like, wait, I'm coaching a Big East basketball team.
00:55:09 I got to snap out of it.
00:55:11 Yeah, you know, there were some things the first year that were challenging.
00:55:16 I think more so for Doug than probably for me.
00:55:20 It was very important to him that he was treated like one of the guys.
00:55:23 And, you know, I remember a specific time one of his teammates told me
00:55:27 that after a really hard practice, you know, he walks in the locked room
00:55:31 and all of a sudden everything goes silent.
00:55:34 And Doug's like, now, wait a second.
00:55:35 You know, I think he's an asshole too for what went on today.
00:55:39 I'm with you guys.
00:55:41 But, you know, when Doug asked me and said, you know,
00:55:45 Dad, I want to be treated like everybody else, I said, I can do that.
00:55:49 But when I tell you to block out, you can't look at me like I told you
00:55:52 to take the garbage out and you don't want to do it.
00:55:54 Like if this is going to be coach and player, then it has to be that
00:55:59 from your perspective too.
00:56:00 And it was a challenge for Doug because for the first 18 years of his life,
00:56:03 my voice was his father's voice.
00:56:05 And then all of a sudden it's his coach's voice.
00:56:08 And, you know, because in college coaching, you don't have an opportunity
00:56:11 to coach your kid in junior high and AU, you know, you're doing your job.
00:56:15 So I didn't really coach Doug much outside of driveway stuff
00:56:19 until he got to college.
00:56:21 But once we got to that point, it was great.
00:56:25 And NBA scouts that came in and watched us play, watched us practice
00:56:29 when he was a junior and senior, you know, they'd said many times,
00:56:32 if we didn't know it, there's no way we'd know your father and son
00:56:35 by watching you interact in practice.
00:56:37 That's the way he wanted it.
00:56:38 That's the way I wanted it.
00:56:40 And, you know, obviously it was a really special time.
00:56:43 I probably didn't embrace it and enjoy it as much when it was going on
00:56:47 because you're in the grind.
00:56:49 But looking back on it for both of us, it was a pretty special time.
00:56:52 Yeah.
00:56:53 When he got the nickname Dougie McBuckets, were you like,
00:56:55 "That's a cool nickname," or were you like, "Chill out with the nickname, son."
00:56:58 No, no, no.
00:56:59 That's a pretty cool nickname.
00:57:01 And, you know, I get called from high school, more high school coaches,
00:57:05 but some college coaches have called me as well that were contemplating
00:57:08 coaching their kid, and obviously it's different in high school
00:57:11 because, you know, he goes home with you every night
00:57:14 and you're at the dinner table every night.
00:57:16 But, you know, it's easy if he's your best player
00:57:19 or a guy that doesn't play very much.
00:57:20 You know, people got pissed off if I took him out of the game at Creighton,
00:57:23 so that was never really a problem.
00:57:26 Yeah.
00:57:27 I have an X's and O's question for you.
00:57:29 This kind of goes back to UConn, but when you have a team that can shoot well
00:57:32 on the offensive side, how do you make them worse at shooting?
00:57:35 Because it seems like it's something very difficult to do
00:57:38 that a lot of coaches try to do, but very few can accomplish.
00:57:44 You know, we're trying to limit the amount of three-point shots teams get.
00:57:48 You know, everybody has a defensive philosophy, and, you know,
00:57:51 UConn's going to pressure you, they're going to try to force you
00:57:53 into turnovers, and obviously it works really well for them.
00:57:56 We try to send everything to Ryan Kalkbrenner at the rim
00:57:58 and try to make sure their best shooters aren't getting a lot of looks
00:58:02 from the three-point line, and I think Caravan and Spencer,
00:58:06 their two best shooters the other night, only had five three-point attempts.
00:58:09 So that's what we're trying to do, and obviously we spend a lot of time
00:58:12 in practice running guys off the line and making sure you're not getting hit
00:58:16 by screens to try to accomplish that.
00:58:19 And, you know, some days it works, some games it works better than others,
00:58:22 but fortunately for us the other night it worked really well.
00:58:25 Yeah, I like the word philosophy too.
00:58:27 It's kind of like culture, but every coach has their different philosophy
00:58:30 on how to build a team and how to play.
00:58:33 What would your philosophy be if you were to distill it down
00:58:35 to one thing about basketball?
00:58:38 Well, I mean, offensively it's freedom.
00:58:41 I like that.
00:58:44 We'll do a lot of different gimmicky stuff defensively,
00:58:48 how we guard a ball screen, what we're going to do.
00:58:50 We'll go over a screen on one guy, under a screen on another,
00:58:53 but offensively our guys have the freedom to play and the freedom to shoot.
00:58:57 You know, we take some crazy shots from six feet behind the line at times,
00:59:03 but we also practice those shots.
00:59:05 So, you know, and everybody recruits to how they're trying to play.
00:59:09 We want guys that can really shoot the basketball, that can handle it,
00:59:12 that can pass it, and that have a good basketball IQ,
00:59:16 and that's what we've been successful with,
00:59:18 and that's what we'll continue to try to do moving forward.
00:59:21 Yeah, so speaking of freedom, how many shots in a row does a guy have to make
00:59:26 to allow him a really terrible heat check shot?
00:59:30 It depends who it is.
00:59:31 Yeah, that makes sense.
00:59:33 You know, Steven Ashworth had a great start to the game the other night,
00:59:35 you know, the transfer from Utah State.
00:59:37 He's played awesome here the last, you know, 10 or 12 games.
00:59:41 But I had him do a drill and practice that I talked about in the post game
00:59:43 the other night that I used to have Doug do where you have to make five in a row
00:59:47 or five shots from five spots, and if you miss two in a row,
00:59:51 you have to go back to the beginning and start again,
00:59:53 and he made 33 in a row.
00:59:55 Wow.
00:59:56 And so he said, "What should I do now? Am I done?"
00:59:58 And I'm like, "No, if you're going to shoot those crazy shots
01:00:00 eight feet behind the line in games, let's back up and practice some of those."
01:00:05 And he hit a couple bombs the other night.
01:00:07 But our guys have a lot of freedom.
01:00:10 They know it.
01:00:11 And, you know, I think it does something to the opposing defense
01:00:15 when they know that a guy can pull from 28 feet any time they want.
01:00:19 I mean, that puts a little bit more pressure on our opponent's defense.
01:00:22 Okay, so counterpoint to that question, if you have a guy that has--
01:00:25 how many shots in a row does a guy have to miss before you're like,
01:00:28 "Hey, you know, there's limits to our freedom here.
01:00:30 We need to reel in some of this freedom."
01:00:33 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:00:34 I mean, there's the old coaching saying that the last thing you want to do
01:00:38 is tell a bad shooter to shoot.
01:00:40 But, you know, if our guys-- if they can shoot it--
01:00:46 and a lot of times you have to talk guys off the ledge
01:00:48 and remind them that the best shooters in the world miss over half their shots.
01:00:54 You know, my son is one of the top 10 or 15 3-point percentage shooter
01:01:00 in NBA history, and that's at like 41%.
01:01:03 So he's missing 6 out of 10.
01:01:05 So that doesn't mean you make 2 out of every 5.
01:01:11 You're going to go 6 of 7, and then you're going to go 1 of 7.
01:01:13 It just happens.
01:01:15 But you trust your work.
01:01:16 You trust your preparation.
01:01:18 The other side of me is if a guy like Baylor Shireman has missed 5 in a row,
01:01:23 I like his chances on the 6th one that he's going to knock the next one down.
01:01:27 Yeah, yeah.
01:01:28 What's the fastest you've ever pulled a guy out of a game?
01:01:31 Because I love old school college basketball coaches.
01:01:33 Yeah.
01:01:35 It's been seconds before.
01:01:38 Really? I love it.
01:01:40 Yeah, I mean it's been a while.
01:01:43 But something stupid happens on the first play that you've gone through
01:01:46 a hundred times and a guy screws it up, it's, you know, let's get him out of there.
01:01:50 That's one of my favorite--I'm a Badger fan, and Bo Ryan used to do that
01:01:53 all the time where he would just like--you'd be 20 seconds into a game
01:01:56 and someone would get yanked, and you'd be like, all right, so he's--
01:01:59 Yeah, Bo didn't mess around.
01:02:01 Bo and I have known each other since his division three days,
01:02:04 so yeah, he didn't mess around.
01:02:07 Yeah, I like that move. What do you tell the guy when he gets pulled--
01:02:09 he's a starter and he gets pulled like 10 seconds into the game,
01:02:12 you just sit him down and you're like, hey, we've been over this.
01:02:14 You're like, what are you doing?
01:02:16 If that happens, you don't have to say a word.
01:02:18 Yeah.
01:02:19 Message received.
01:02:20 Yeah, he knows what he's doing.
01:02:22 He knows exactly why he's coming out.
01:02:25 Yeah, so I guess this is a tough question to ask, and I'm curious to know
01:02:30 if you're going to actually answer.
01:02:32 What is the expectation for you in this postseason this year?
01:02:37 Well, I mean, the first thing is you've got to get there.
01:02:42 And there's teams that have high expectations going into season
01:02:46 and it doesn't work out and they don't make the tournament.
01:02:50 So we're always gearing ourselves to play our best at the end of the year
01:02:56 and build towards February and March.
01:02:59 Make sure your body's healthy, their mind's in a good spot.
01:03:04 You know, in the NCAA tournament, it's so much about matchups.
01:03:08 And, you know, everybody talks about seeding.
01:03:10 Seeding to me doesn't mean much unless you get to play close to your backyard.
01:03:16 But it's about matchups.
01:03:17 So, you know, I know that the guys that decided to come back--
01:03:21 you know, Baylor Shireman came back for his fifth year,
01:03:24 Alexander and Kalkbrenner tested the NBA Waters last year
01:03:27 and decided to come back.
01:03:29 You know, they want to get back to that game.
01:03:31 They want to get back to that moment and have a chance to try to knock the door
01:03:34 down and get to the Final Four and the first time in creating history.
01:03:37 So I know that's what they're thinking.
01:03:40 I'm thinking about the next game and the next play.
01:03:42 I think as a coach, if you think any other way, you're asking for trouble.
01:03:46 So do you guys pay attention to Ken Palm at all?
01:03:49 Any guys in your office?
01:03:51 Yeah, you know, my staff's looking at that all the time.
01:03:54 And, you know, because it measures a lot of the things that at the end of the day
01:03:59 analytically we're trying to measure anyway.
01:04:01 You know, how are we performing in comparison to our peers?
01:04:06 And, you know, it also gives us some information on, you know,
01:04:10 what percentage of our shots are three-point shots?
01:04:13 Is it what we want it to be?
01:04:15 And on the other side, are we making sure our opponents aren't shooting
01:04:17 a high percentage there?
01:04:19 You know, we don't force turnovers.
01:04:21 We don't shoot a lot of free throws, but we don't foul,
01:04:24 so our opponents don't either.
01:04:25 So those are things that we're constantly looking at.
01:04:27 Well, I got some good Ken Palm stats for you.
01:04:30 All right, this is going to be good.
01:04:31 You can tell the guys.
01:04:32 So I saw this the other day.
01:04:34 It's as of Tuesday.
01:04:36 According to Ken Palm, the last 20 national champions have all been top 25
01:04:40 in adjusted efficiency margin, top 37 in adjusted offensive efficiency,
01:04:45 top 38 in adjusted defensive efficiency, top 45 in strength of schedule rating.
01:04:49 This is as of Tuesday.
01:04:51 The teams that fall under those categories are Purdue, Arizona, Tennessee,
01:04:55 North Carolina, Marquette, Michigan State, and Creighton.
01:04:59 So you're in there.
01:05:01 And as of right now, you have the balance of the team, you know,
01:05:05 both offense and defense, and played a very good schedule.
01:05:08 I don't know.
01:05:09 You can tell your guys that.
01:05:11 Maybe you don't want to -- you know, maybe you want to do what you just did,
01:05:13 saying hopefully we get into the tournament.
01:05:15 I'm going to break some news to you.
01:05:17 You're going to be in the tournament.
01:05:19 But that's kind of cool.
01:05:20 Yeah, it sounds like if they get any coaching, they're going to be in good shape.
01:05:23 Yeah.
01:05:24 Yeah, now it's up to you.
01:05:25 You have the guys.
01:05:26 No pressure.
01:05:27 Try not to screw it up.
01:05:29 Try not to screw it up.
01:05:30 Stay out of their way.
01:05:31 Yeah.
01:05:32 So here's an easy question for you.
01:05:34 What city would you like to retire in more, Omaha or Columbus, Ohio?
01:05:39 What do you think is a better retirement destination?
01:05:42 That's a cagey question.
01:05:44 Yeah.
01:05:45 You know, I live on a golf course here in Omaha, and I like the golf course.
01:05:52 So, you know, it would probably be Omaha.
01:05:54 Okay.
01:05:55 Good answer.
01:05:56 That's a good answer.
01:05:57 Good answer.
01:05:58 I have one last question for you, Coach.
01:05:59 This has been awesome.
01:06:00 It's the Robac question, RHOBACK.com.
01:06:02 Use promo code TAKE, 20% off your first purchase.
01:06:04 Q-Zips, polos, hoodies, joggers, great polos for the golf course.
01:06:08 Roback.com, promo code TAKE.
01:06:10 I think I know the answer to this, but maybe you can explain it.
01:06:13 I love college hoops.
01:06:15 I actually love -- I love the first two days of March Madness,
01:06:18 but Conference Championship Week is my favorite.
01:06:21 How much more difficult is Conference Championship Week
01:06:24 than the actual tournament?
01:06:26 Because it feels like every year that's when it's like this is --
01:06:29 all these teams know each other, back-to-back games.
01:06:32 It's the toughest it's tough to get.
01:06:34 Like what is the preparation when you're going into the Big East Tournament
01:06:38 versus March Madness?
01:06:39 Yeah, I mean, to your point, it's so difficult because, you know,
01:06:44 there are no secrets, you know, and it's --
01:06:47 you know, hopefully you don't play on that first night.
01:06:49 It's three games in three days without a chance to breathe in between
01:06:54 and against teams that really know you.
01:06:56 And in our league, you know, and I turn on some of the other conference
01:07:01 tournaments when you're sitting around, like the garden is jammed.
01:07:04 It is packed.
01:07:06 It is an incredible environment, especially if we're playing somebody
01:07:10 from the East Coast.
01:07:11 It's a hard environment.
01:07:13 You're essentially playing a road game.
01:07:15 But it's, you know, it's really, really challenging,
01:07:18 but it's also really special.
01:07:20 And you can -- you really sense it, you know,
01:07:24 how important the Big East Tournament is to the schools in the Big East,
01:07:28 you know, that -- to actually try to win that tournament.
01:07:30 I think some conference tournaments, why they're important, you know,
01:07:34 looking ahead to the NCAA Tournament.
01:07:36 But in the Big East, it's, you know, it's huge to have an opportunity
01:07:40 to win that.
01:07:41 And, you know, we played in it nine years because one year got wiped out by COVID.
01:07:45 At least we played a half in that year.
01:07:47 But -- and we've been in the championship four times and just haven't won it.
01:07:50 So, for us, you know, we'd like to knock that door down as well.
01:07:53 Yeah, we've talked to a couple Big East coaches about that tournament,
01:07:56 and I'm always curious to know, like, do you hold anything back at all,
01:08:00 or is it just like let's go full send during the tournament
01:08:03 and then we'll regroup and figure out what we want to do for the round of 68?
01:08:08 No, all you've got to do is watch a game.
01:08:11 It's so high level.
01:08:12 And everybody's trying to win.
01:08:15 I don't think there's anybody holding anything back.
01:08:18 And, you know, even Villanova, I think their national championship teams,
01:08:21 I think they won the Big East Tournament both of those years.
01:08:24 And, you know, UConn got beat, I believe, in the semis last year.
01:08:28 But it's, you know, it's hard basketball,
01:08:33 but it's also an incredible, incredible experience for the young guys
01:08:36 to get an opportunity to play in it, especially in the Garden and the Big East Tournament.
01:08:39 Yeah, I love it.
01:08:40 I love it.
01:08:41 There's no better time than March.
01:08:42 Coach, thank you so much.
01:08:44 Listen, if my team can't win, maybe I'm rooting for you to come to our office
01:08:50 and dunk one last dunk.
01:08:51 I think you can dunk.
01:08:52 I think you can do it.
01:08:53 I've seen you running up and down the sidelines.
01:08:55 I think that you've still got some bounce in those legs.
01:08:57 Yeah.
01:08:58 Yeah, if I'm chasing a referee, maybe I have a little more adrenaline at that point.
01:09:02 But, guys, if we get there, I'll be there.
01:09:05 I appreciate it.
01:09:06 Okay, we can get a ref for you that you can chase around.
01:09:09 We'll get someone in a ref, you know, and just, like, yell at you,
01:09:11 and then you can chase him and dunk.
01:09:13 But thanks so much, Coach.
01:09:14 Best of luck the rest of the season.
01:09:16 I appreciate it, guys.
01:09:17 Thank you.
01:09:18 Coach McDermott was brought to you by our great friends over at Coors Light.
01:09:23 From day-to-day annoyances to the big stuff that life throws your way,
01:09:27 it's easy to get worked up.
01:09:28 But there's a better way, there's a chiller way.
01:09:30 Turn that canceled concert into a parking lot dance party.
01:09:33 If you're too cold for an ocean swim, play volleyball.
01:09:36 Light a bonfire instead.
01:09:38 I was on the golf course last Saturday.
01:09:40 I was playing, it started to rain.
01:09:41 Guess what I did?
01:09:42 I cracked open a Coors Light.
01:09:43 I chose to chill in that moment.
01:09:45 I'm going to be having a few blue mountains this weekend.
01:09:48 Nothing better than watching basketball when you've got a Coors Light in your hand.
01:09:52 It's cold.
01:09:53 When the mountains turn blue, it's as cold as the Rockies.
01:09:55 I love Coors Light.
01:09:56 When you choose to rise above it all, choose chill, choose Coors Light.
01:10:00 Get Coors Light delivered straight to your door with an Instacart
01:10:02 by going to coorslight.com/take.
01:10:05 Celebrate responsibly.
01:10:06 Coors Brewing Company, Golden, Colorado.
01:10:08 And now, here's Mark Titus.
01:10:10 Okay.
01:10:12 It's time for some college basketball talk.
01:10:14 We have our colleague, which is not weird to say anymore,
01:10:19 but it is probably maybe a little weird for AWLs
01:10:22 because we haven't had you on since, I think, it's been a year.
01:10:25 I think it's been around a year because you've been at Barstool for almost a year.
01:10:28 Yeah, I think I came on right when I signed on.
01:10:30 Yeah, so it is Mark Titus.
01:10:32 We can't have him on more frequently than that given his outbursts in the past.
01:10:35 Yeah, all the comments.
01:10:37 The things that we've had to bleep out after the fact.
01:10:40 Yeah, it's easier to book him now.
01:10:42 I can just be like, "Hey, you want to come on?"
01:10:44 And it's been almost a year.
01:10:46 So we basically hired you because we're like,
01:10:49 "At some point, we're going to have to do a free throw challenge."
01:10:52 We've done that, so unfortunately, I'm going to be here to tell you
01:10:55 that your contract is going to expire and you're not going to be renewed.
01:10:58 We'll bring you back like Mantis for a day next time we meet you.
01:11:01 How do you feel?
01:11:02 We learned that we don't actually need you as badly as we thought.
01:11:05 We have Mantis now.
01:11:07 You walk in, we'll be like, "That boy's straight."
01:11:09 Yeah, so that was--
01:11:12 You've had a lot of welcome to Barstool.
01:11:14 Your first week here was the first week of March Madness.
01:11:19 I remember so vividly walking into you in your studio
01:11:24 in the old New York office, and you had--
01:11:26 It looked like you had just come back from Vietnam.
01:11:28 You had a million-mile stare, and I was just like, "You all right, dude?"
01:11:33 He's like, "That was just a lot."
01:11:34 I was like, "You should go home to LA for a couple days."
01:11:38 But now that you're comfortable, it's not a bad place, right?
01:11:41 I love it.
01:11:42 I absolutely love it.
01:11:44 It's been awesome.
01:11:45 The free throw stream was so fun.
01:11:47 I did--I mean, you said this too, that I went home, I was exhausted,
01:11:51 I went to bed immediately, slept forever.
01:11:54 I woke up, and the first thought I had was, "I want to get back on the line."
01:11:57 With the boys.
01:11:58 I miss it.
01:11:59 I just want to get back there.
01:12:00 No, this place is incredible.
01:12:02 It's like every day is a circus in a good way.
01:12:07 But yeah, there was an adjustment period,
01:12:08 and getting thrown into the gambling cave out of the start was very difficult.
01:12:14 My memory was like day one, Dave asked me for a pick.
01:12:19 I kind of--I don't watch basketball in that way,
01:12:24 so I was just kind of like, "I don't fucking know.
01:12:27 Kentucky, I guess?"
01:12:28 I think Kentucky played Kansas State, and they won.
01:12:31 Then I went home.
01:12:32 I went back to the hotel, and I was like, "Thank fucking God that's over."
01:12:35 Then the very next morning, I was in line at Starbucks, and Dave was behind me,
01:12:39 and he's like, "Titus."
01:12:40 I was like, "Oh, what's up, Dave?"
01:12:41 I was waiting for the pat on the back, and he just goes, "Give me another pick."
01:12:44 I was like, "Fuck."
01:12:46 I was like, "Fuck, again?"
01:12:47 He's like, "Yeah, dude, it's day two.
01:12:49 Another one."
01:12:50 Then you're his guy, and that's a dangerous place to be
01:12:51 because you can get the ax immediately.
01:12:54 You're on the radar.
01:12:55 I'll be better prepared this year.
01:12:57 We were watching day one of March Madness last year,
01:13:00 and there was a lot going on.
01:13:01 There were a lot of games.
01:13:03 You went through some ups and downs right off the bat.
01:13:06 I don't think you'd been in a gambling environment like that before.
01:13:09 What adjustments are you going to make for this year's March Madness?
01:13:12 I'm going to be more aware of spreads.
01:13:14 That was something that I--
01:13:16 It's already hard enough trying to decide who's going to win these games,
01:13:19 but I'm going to be more in tune with that.
01:13:24 I also learned that nobody actually--
01:13:27 Yeah, I don't know.
01:13:28 It was difficult because nobody gave a fuck about the basketball.
01:13:31 It was just like--
01:13:34 Big Ev and I got into a little dust-up one--
01:13:37 I have a memory of that because he was just screaming,
01:13:40 "How do you call that fucking foul?"
01:13:42 And then I just like--
01:13:43 In retrospect, I shouldn't have, but I was like--
01:13:45 I mean, Ev, he hit him right on the arm as he was shooting.
01:13:48 He was like, "I know that, but I don't give a fuck.
01:13:50 How do you call that?"
01:13:51 There's no rationale.
01:13:52 I realized, ah, okay, so we're kind of approaching this a little differently.
01:13:56 Yeah, I don't know.
01:13:57 I guess I'm just going to gamble heavily.
01:13:58 Yeah, that's really the only way.
01:13:59 I got to get into the trenches with the boys.
01:14:01 It's like if you can't beat them, join them.
01:14:03 Yeah.
01:14:04 So just, yeah, you'll become one of those people eventually.
01:14:06 You'll become everything you aim for.
01:14:08 Yeah, so let's talk some college basketball.
01:14:10 This has been a very fun season.
01:14:12 It feels like very wide open, kind of similar to last year.
01:14:15 Yeah.
01:14:16 UConn is the best team, you would say, right now,
01:14:19 but they just lost to Creighton by a billion.
01:14:22 What are your big-picture thoughts going into the conference championship week
01:14:27 and the tournament?
01:14:28 For someone who maybe doesn't watch college basketball is trying to catch up.
01:14:31 I think I want to kind of say everyone sucks,
01:14:34 but that's not a good way to get people into the sport.
01:14:36 No, not everyone sucks.
01:14:38 Yeah.
01:14:39 Everyone sucks on the road.
01:14:40 Everyone sucks on the road.
01:14:41 That's the thing.
01:14:42 That's for sure.
01:14:43 It's hard because you want to get excited about teams,
01:14:45 but then even Kentucky is a good example.
01:14:47 It's like Kentucky goes to Auburn, a very hard place to win.
01:14:51 They looked awesome, and you're like, "Oh, my God."
01:14:53 I've gotten to a point where I only almost look at road performances
01:14:56 because the home court will lie to you.
01:15:00 Kentucky looks awesome at Auburn.
01:15:02 I talk myself into them, and then last night they look like dog shit at KLSU.
01:15:06 Yeah, not everybody sucks.
01:15:08 It's just everybody has very obvious weaknesses.
01:15:12 A week ago it was Purdue and UConn and everybody else,
01:15:15 and now Purdue loses at a bad Ohio State against a bad Ohio State team.
01:15:20 UConn got blown out at Creighton.
01:15:23 That was due.
01:15:24 It was.
01:15:25 That was due.
01:15:26 And they needed that.
01:15:27 I think when UConn beat the hell out of Marquette,
01:15:30 the conversations about, "Is this team better than last year?"
01:15:33 Way too premature for them.
01:15:35 I think that was rat poison.
01:15:37 Is it saving this?
01:15:38 Yes, rat poison.
01:15:39 That was rat poison.
01:15:40 Yeah, but you're right.
01:15:42 The road games are tough.
01:15:44 Kentucky is a good example.
01:15:46 That was an incredible ending where Kentucky finally hit a big shot
01:15:50 at the end of a game, and then they just stopped playing defense,
01:15:53 which they never really started playing defense this year.
01:15:56 No.
01:15:57 I don't think they've ever been like, "Let's start playing defense."
01:15:59 Right.
01:16:00 They just started the season and they're like, "Oh, yeah,
01:16:02 there's another half of this game, whatever."
01:16:04 Is Cal on the hot seat for real this time?
01:16:07 I mean, it actually feels like it might be for real.
01:16:11 At some point the meme becomes the reality.
01:16:13 Yeah.
01:16:16 They're not going to fire him.
01:16:17 He has a lifetime contract, so I think they have to kill him.
01:16:20 They'll do that.
01:16:21 They have to actually execute him.
01:16:22 Yeah.
01:16:24 But, yeah, I mean, like it does feel like there might be a conversation
01:16:28 where they're like, "Cal, are you sure you want to do this still?"
01:16:30 Like, "Cal, how much longer do you want to live?"
01:16:32 Yeah.
01:16:34 There might be a friendly nudge.
01:16:37 They might try, but I think the AD loves them.
01:16:40 I don't know.
01:16:41 The Kentucky fans are absolutely ready for a change, though.
01:16:44 Absolutely.
01:16:45 It also hurts that, like, this is a very talented Kentucky team,
01:16:49 and then they have Reed Shepard, their point guard, who's from Kentucky,
01:16:52 who's like every Kentucky fan's wet dream, where he's really good,
01:16:56 and they're like, "This should be everything," and they just don't play.
01:16:59 This feels like it should be a vintage Cal team
01:17:01 because the last couple years--they haven't even been that bad the last few years,
01:17:04 to be honest.
01:17:05 They lose to St. Peter's, which was very, very bad, but they were a two-seed.
01:17:09 I think when you look back on the last few years at Kentucky,
01:17:12 it feels like they were like 500 the last few years, you know,
01:17:15 and they haven't been that.
01:17:16 They've been good.
01:17:17 They just haven't been Kentucky good, and then they fuck it up in the tournament.
01:17:21 But Cal went away from what made his teams good,
01:17:25 which is like the one-and-done stuff and, like,
01:17:27 "I'm just going to overwhelm you with talent,"
01:17:28 and he started going to the transfer portal,
01:17:30 and he's getting Oskar Sheway and Shavere Wheeler and guys like that.
01:17:33 That didn't really work out for him.
01:17:34 He hit a hard reset, and this team is all guard-oriented.
01:17:38 They're all young dudes that are going to be like NBA players.
01:17:41 He has like five future NBA players on this team probably,
01:17:44 if not more than that, probably more than that.
01:17:47 Everything about it feels like a vintage John Calipari team.
01:17:51 So if he fucks this up, like, I mean, you're kind of out of like--
01:17:56 I don't know if excuses, but you're out of like paths for him to get it back.
01:18:00 If he fucks this up, he's completely lost the magic.
01:18:03 And it will be-- I mean, it's already been a decade,
01:18:06 but it's like we're on 12, 13 years since they won a title.
01:18:09 What is a fuck-up for him this year?
01:18:11 Like he has to just go with the Sweet 16, Final Four?
01:18:13 I mean, I would have thought if they--
01:18:16 they should be competing in the SEC.
01:18:19 Like there's kind of-- I mean, the SEC's good,
01:18:21 so I don't want to say there's no excuse for them not to win the league,
01:18:24 but the fact that they're not even going to come close to winning the league
01:18:27 is crazy.
01:18:28 They have to make at least the Sweet 16.
01:18:30 Yeah.
01:18:31 At least.
01:18:32 And they're not.
01:18:33 I mean, they're not a national--
01:18:34 And if they get spanked in the Sweet 16, then it's like he fucked this up.
01:18:36 Right, right.
01:18:37 And I guess that's the hard part when evaluating this stuff
01:18:39 is you always move the goalposts.
01:18:41 Yeah.
01:18:42 He loses the national championship by five, and you're like, "Fucked it up."
01:18:45 Fucked it up.
01:18:46 We're supposed to be Kentucky.
01:18:47 Right.
01:18:48 What about Purdue?
01:18:49 Talk to me about Purdue.
01:18:50 I think there's nothing in sports that you enjoy more than Purdue losing.
01:18:54 Purdue losing at the right time.
01:18:56 Yeah.
01:18:57 Purdue's a sick joke to me and Titus today--
01:18:59 This year, because they're the only team that can win it all from the Big Ten.
01:19:02 Right.
01:19:03 We've been talking about the Big Ten forever needing a national title.
01:19:06 It's going to hurt us.
01:19:07 So can they win it all, or are they going to fuck it up?
01:19:09 They can win it all.
01:19:10 I think Purdue team's better than last year.
01:19:13 The guard play--first of all, their guards are older.
01:19:18 The two white kids that were freshmen last year, they are older,
01:19:22 and they're way better.
01:19:23 Like Brayden Smith last year was a game manager more,
01:19:27 and now he's actually a stud.
01:19:30 And then Lance Jones, the kid they got in the transfer portal,
01:19:33 is fucking awesome.
01:19:35 So I do think that Purdue is going to make a Final Four.
01:19:37 I think they're better.
01:19:40 But what worries me about Purdue is they just can't resist being Purdue.
01:19:44 And I don't mean that as like a LOL Purdue meme.
01:19:47 Watching them against Ohio State,
01:19:50 they're one of the best three-point shooting teams in the country now.
01:19:52 Last year they couldn't shoot for shit.
01:19:53 Now they can.
01:19:54 They're hitting threes.
01:19:55 They shot nine threes against Ohio State because they just cannot resist
01:19:58 just trying to dump it into Eadie over and over and over.
01:20:02 Eadie's awesome, but I don't know what their plan B--
01:20:06 like they don't give you confidence that they have a great plan B,
01:20:11 and that's what worries me about Purdue.
01:20:13 Purdue's good, though, this year.
01:20:15 They're better than they have been in these horrific exits.
01:20:19 And I know--the reason why I know this is because it's shifted now to--
01:20:24 you know, last year it was like, well, their guards are so young.
01:20:26 Like are they going to be able to stand up?
01:20:28 And they obviously didn't.
01:20:30 It's basically like wait until Zach Eadie gets officiated different
01:20:33 in the French Madness.
01:20:34 Right.
01:20:35 That is a sign that it's like, oh, they actually are pretty good.
01:20:37 They are good.
01:20:38 Yeah, right.
01:20:39 No, they are good.
01:20:40 We're clinging to that.
01:20:41 They can definitely win a national championship.
01:20:42 I just--yeah, like it's--you know, Ohio State thinks one game and, you know,
01:20:47 you don't want to put too much stock in one game,
01:20:49 and they have been awesome all year.
01:20:51 But, yeah, I do worry that that's just like--they just become so Eadie dominant
01:20:56 that the rest of the guys are just standing around watching.
01:20:59 But they are good.
01:21:00 They are legitimately--they address their problems in the offseason.
01:21:04 I just--like when push comes to shove and assholes start getting tight
01:21:09 in the NCAA tournament game, they're just going to revert back to what they know,
01:21:12 which is dumping it into the post, which is great.
01:21:14 But, you know, it's a guard-oriented game in March, and teams will--like that's what--
01:21:19 Fairleigh Dickinson did that to him.
01:21:20 We were laughing at Dave--
01:21:21 Too small.
01:21:22 Yeah, in the family cave.
01:21:23 You were.
01:21:24 But Dave just kept yelling, "They're too small."
01:21:25 That's exactly what happened.
01:21:27 And I still think the recipe to beat Purdue is the exact same,
01:21:31 even though they've gotten a little better.
01:21:33 And everybody knows that.
01:21:35 That's the other thing that worries me about that is every single team knows how to beat Purdue.
01:21:39 There's going to be no--you don't need the quick turnaround of scout of like,
01:21:44 "Oh, fuck, we're playing Purdue."
01:21:45 What do they do?
01:21:46 What are their tendencies?
01:21:47 I feel like every team in the country knows how to beat them.
01:21:50 But the good thing for Purdue fans is executing that is going to be difficult.
01:21:54 Yeah.
01:21:55 Best league in the country, Big 12?
01:21:57 Yeah, the Big 12 is the best, but I don't find it the most interesting.
01:22:01 You don't?
01:22:02 I don't think Houston has the speed.
01:22:03 Well, it's because Houston is at the top.
01:22:05 Yeah.
01:22:06 Houston's great.
01:22:07 It feels like they're not yet Big 12.
01:22:09 And they're great, but they're hard to watch.
01:22:11 You watch the Iowa State--
01:22:13 Yeah, they're hard to watch.
01:22:14 Both those teams are really good.
01:22:16 I kind of love that game, though, because they were just beating the fuck out of each other.
01:22:19 Yeah, they were.
01:22:20 But I think that is why the Big 12--it is the best conference,
01:22:23 but when it's Houston instead of Kansas up top, it just feels different.
01:22:27 I know Houston fans get mad about that, but it's just the facts.
01:22:30 Yeah, I'm still trying to make sense of Houston because their defense is unbelievable.
01:22:34 They're so good.
01:22:36 But yeah, Jamal Shedd is awesome and Cryer's great.
01:22:40 I do like their guards.
01:22:42 Their guards are--it's going to be interesting because I wonder how much offense they can generate.
01:22:47 I wonder if Shedd and Cryer are guys that you can--that can just pull something out of their ass
01:22:55 offensively when they need to in March.
01:22:57 And I don't know if they are, but I could see them being that.
01:23:02 It's really--I don't know.
01:23:05 They're right at the line for me of how talented you need your guards to be offensively.
01:23:10 Defensively, they're fucking incredible.
01:23:12 But the Houston flameout in the tournament feels like they lost the game 53 to 49.
01:23:18 They couldn't score, but they played great defense.
01:23:20 I'll rebound them by 20 rebounds.
01:23:23 Still can't get a shot.
01:23:24 Yeah, it's just a disgusting game.
01:23:26 They go like 21% from three.
01:23:28 Yeah.
01:23:29 But they still take--they took like 20 of them because they're like, "We're desperate."
01:23:32 Right, right.
01:23:34 But no, I like Houston a lot, and I think the fact that they went to the Big 12 is going to help them immensely,
01:23:40 obviously, because they're in a tough conference, and they're playing well.
01:23:43 What I do love is there's so many fans that are fans of teams in the Big 12 that kept saying to Houston,
01:23:49 "Just wait until you play in a real conference. Just wait. Just wait until 2024.
01:23:53 You're going to feel what real basketball is like," and they come in there, and it's still really fucking good.
01:23:57 They're like, "We're going to win your league."
01:23:58 Yeah, yeah. I respect that.
01:24:00 What about Texas? Do they have a chance?
01:24:02 Also, why is his name pronounced "Ace-mus"?
01:24:06 I don't know. I never understood that.
01:24:08 He's really fucking good.
01:24:09 Yeah, he is.
01:24:10 So he can tell you how to pronounce his name whatever way he wants, but A-B, how does that make the sound?
01:24:15 I've never really understood that.
01:24:17 I don't know. The problem with the Big 12 for me is there are a lot of teams that--
01:24:21 but it's that way across all of college basketball.
01:24:24 There are good teams, certainly, and Texas is one of them.
01:24:28 But no, I don't think Texas is going to a Final Four or winning--
01:24:31 they're not a serious national title contender.
01:24:34 Yeah, they're in the middle of the Big 12.
01:24:36 Yeah, and all those teams are kind of that way.
01:24:38 I would say Houston's really the only team I think has a shot at winning.
01:24:44 Iowa State fans won't want to hear that.
01:24:45 Kansas is supposed to be good, but I think even Kansas fans kind of realize that this team's not it.
01:24:52 And the rest of the teams are good.
01:24:55 The Big 12 is more of a numbers game where it's like,
01:24:59 "We're not going to win the national championship, but we are going to have five teams in the Elite Eight.
01:25:03 You're going to have to respect us because we just overwhelm you with how many good teams we have."
01:25:09 But then when you look up, none of those teams are actually winning the national championship.
01:25:13 Houston could, though.
01:25:14 Yeah, yeah.
01:25:15 I mean, yeah, the Big 12 is--
01:25:17 TCU is another team I like, but I don't think they're--
01:25:21 TCU--Dixon really screwed us because we went and did a TCU college football show,
01:25:30 and we had him on, and he was like, "We're going to run the Showtime Lakers."
01:25:35 I was like, "Oh, fuck. I'm going to bet the over in every single one of their games."
01:25:38 And they do run, but they don't make shots like the Showtime Lakers, so I've lost a lot of money.
01:25:43 There's a guy, Jordan Sperber, who does awesome breakdowns.
01:25:47 If you're a basketball geek and want to see X's and O's stuff, he's a film nut.
01:25:52 Ah, that only got 54,000 views.
01:25:55 Yeah, right, right.
01:25:56 J.J. Reddick, Zion Williams.
01:25:57 Yeah.
01:25:58 What a great humble brag by J.J. Reddick.
01:26:00 I mean, this boring thing, it only got 54,000 views.
01:26:04 I feel his pain because I'm the smartest fucking guy in the world,
01:26:08 and I prove it on my show over and over and over again.
01:26:13 I think the reason my show isn't the number one sports podcast is because I'm probably too smart.
01:26:18 You're too smart.
01:26:19 I'm too smart for the average fan.
01:26:20 Fans don't want it.
01:26:21 I've got to dumb it down.
01:26:22 Listen, you can do X's and O's, or you can get Cat Williams to come on your show and call everyone in Hollywood gay,
01:26:27 and then you get 60 million views.
01:26:29 Wait, so what were you saying about that?
01:26:30 Oh, I was saying Sperber always puts together--he takes the intro press conferences when coaches get hired in the offseason.
01:26:35 Literally every single coach says, "We're going to push pace.
01:26:38 We're going to run and gun.
01:26:40 We're going to--yeah."
01:26:41 And then he oftentimes will do an update and be like, "Here's their pace, actually.
01:26:44 Here's what their offense is actually doing."
01:26:47 But every single intro press conference, the coach is like, "One of the tenets of our program, we're going to push it.
01:26:51 We're going to get good shots.
01:26:53 We're going to put points on the board."
01:26:56 And then reality hits.
01:26:58 Yeah, that's a fact.
01:27:00 So let's talk about the Big East real quick because Max over there, Villanova--
01:27:05 Uh-oh.
01:27:06 They are--we're running this tomorrow.
01:27:09 You can't have a worse setup than Villanova being like starting to play some good basketball.
01:27:15 Max had talked himself into the UConn game.
01:27:18 Now it's game day is in stores.
01:27:21 They're coming off a 20-point loss where Danny Hurley was like, "I coached bad.
01:27:25 The players played bad."
01:27:27 And now Villanova has to go play there.
01:27:28 And Danny Hurley is releasing Game of Thrones gifs and videos.
01:27:33 This feels like an ass kicking.
01:27:34 It's going to be a fucking biblical ass kicking for Max and Villanova.
01:27:38 Are you in on Arnova, Max?
01:27:40 I can't.
01:27:41 Oh, yeah.
01:27:42 I go with whatever way the last game goes.
01:27:44 That's a true fan.
01:27:45 I'm all in or all out after every single game.
01:27:49 And the last three games, double-digit wins or three wins by double-digit points.
01:27:54 Yeah, and now you've got to go play UConn.
01:27:56 So is there a team in the Big East besides UConn and we'll say Creighton as well?
01:28:03 Yeah.
01:28:04 We have Greg McTermin on this show who can make a deep run.
01:28:08 Marquette, obviously.
01:28:10 I think Marquette's.
01:28:11 I don't know.
01:28:12 Maybe that's just because of the Badgers.
01:28:13 Because of the Badgers.
01:28:14 And I don't think the Badgers are that good.
01:28:15 Yeah.
01:28:17 Yeah, I don't know.
01:28:20 Seton Hall's been great.
01:28:23 It won't happen though because of Frank.
01:28:24 Yeah.
01:28:25 Frank's not allowed to have happiness.
01:28:26 Seton Hall's like an auto-bet at home type of team.
01:28:29 Yeah.
01:28:30 I'm drinking the Butler Kool-Aid.
01:28:32 They're on the bubble.
01:28:33 Oh, why?
01:28:34 Who's their coach?
01:28:36 Who is their coach?
01:28:37 Yeah, look it up.
01:28:38 Oh, who is their coach?
01:28:39 Do you know their coach?
01:28:40 You don't know their coach, do you?
01:28:41 I don't know, actually.
01:28:42 Do you know their coach?
01:28:43 Nova's the fourth best.
01:28:44 Oh, it's Thad Mata.
01:28:45 Oh, that's weird.
01:28:46 Oh, is it?
01:28:47 Where'd he coach?
01:28:48 Oh, well, good for him.
01:28:49 I didn't realize that.
01:28:50 I'm drinking the Butler Kool-Aid.
01:28:51 I was drinking the Butler Kool-Aid, but now I'm really drinking the Kool-Aid.
01:28:57 They're so fun to watch.
01:28:58 They won at Creighton and at Marquette.
01:29:01 We're talking about you want to see teams that go in on the road.
01:29:04 They have two impressive road wins.
01:29:05 Villanova could do something.
01:29:09 They're the fourth best team in the Big East.
01:29:12 Yeah, you're probably right when they're at their best.
01:29:16 There's a fall off.
01:29:17 Something to be proud of.
01:29:18 Oh, yeah.
01:29:19 Well, they've looked like the third worst team in the Big East for a lot of the year,
01:29:24 but talent-wise, they're at least the fourth best team in the Big East.
01:29:29 Talent-wise.
01:29:30 Talent-wise.
01:29:31 Yeah, the Big East is the most fun league to me, I think.
01:29:36 Well, it's all basketball.
01:29:37 It's just pure basketball.
01:29:39 The fans are obsessed.
01:29:41 It's all they care about.
01:29:43 The coaches are incredible characters through and through.
01:29:48 Yeah, and I do think a lot of these teams can go on.
01:29:53 Bias aside, I do think Butler, I do think that they're not going to go to Final Four,
01:30:00 but-
01:30:01 That was bias included.
01:30:03 I don't know what you mean by a deep run, but yeah, Butler could make the Sweet 16.
01:30:08 Butler bias aside may not make the tournament.
01:30:10 No, I know that, but-
01:30:12 Right, that would be the bias aside.
01:30:15 They're going to make the tournament.
01:30:16 Are they?
01:30:17 Yeah, they'll make the tournament.
01:30:18 But there's a team every year that plays in the play-in that makes a little run.
01:30:22 Yeah, no, you're right.
01:30:23 Every year there's a team that's on the bubble that makes a run.
01:30:25 I'm saying Butler could be that team.
01:30:26 Their last four in right now, according to Linardi.
01:30:28 They'll make it in.
01:30:29 Okay.
01:30:30 Can I say something about the play-in?
01:30:31 I've decided I hate the play-in.
01:30:33 Why's that?
01:30:35 I don't like it because it's an afterthought, even though it comes before.
01:30:39 I don't like the play-in at all.
01:30:40 I think I want my tournament to start on Thursday.
01:30:44 I like it being clean Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
01:30:47 The teams don't get the shine if they play in the play-in.
01:30:49 Nobody remembers if you play in the play-in and lose.
01:30:53 I understand why they want more teams in there.
01:30:55 They want to be able to throw some 16 seeds in and get them out of the way.
01:31:00 It just ... Or some higher, some teams that won their conference tournament that they
01:31:07 don't want to give shine to on a Thursday.
01:31:09 If they called it the play-in and you didn't actually get an NCAA tournament, you didn't
01:31:14 get to put on a banner in your arena that NCAA tournament appearances, you didn't get
01:31:19 to put that on there unless you won the play-in.
01:31:21 I'm fine with that.
01:31:22 If it was truly like, "This is not the NCAA tournament.
01:31:25 This is purely a play-in.
01:31:26 The tournament starts on Thursday, but we're still going to keep the exact same format.
01:31:30 We're just going to rebrand it."
01:31:31 Yeah, the games can stay.
01:31:32 Would that help?
01:31:33 I'm not in favor of ... I like more sports on TV.
01:31:36 Yeah.
01:31:37 For sure.
01:31:38 Yeah.
01:31:39 But if you just do ... If you have four at-large teams that play on that Wednesday, you don't
01:31:42 call it the tournament, but if you win, you get in the tournament, I'm fine with that.
01:31:46 68 isn't as cool.
01:31:47 64 is a way better number when it comes to a bracket.
01:31:49 I like the play-in because it's an appetizer.
01:31:51 It gets you warmed up.
01:31:53 I also think that UCLA kind of legitimized the play-in when they went to the Final Four
01:31:58 from the play-in.
01:31:59 Yeah.
01:32:00 That was it.
01:32:01 Right.
01:32:02 I'm happy they got in.
01:32:03 We need the play-in.
01:32:04 I like the appetizer.
01:32:05 It gets me warmed up.
01:32:07 I do think that this idea that we're going to have whatever the number is, 132.
01:32:12 I hate that.
01:32:13 That sucks.
01:32:14 64 is the perfect number.
01:32:15 I agree.
01:32:16 With UCLA, they could have played in that as an at-large, and yeah, you get into the
01:32:20 tournament that way.
01:32:21 It would have been fun.
01:32:22 I don't like the number 68.
01:32:23 I feel like 64 is way better.
01:32:25 Yeah.
01:32:26 Yeah, I agree.
01:32:27 I guess you could just not watch until Thursday morning.
01:32:30 Not an option.
01:32:31 Yeah.
01:32:32 That's true, too.
01:32:33 That's why I like it because I'll always watch it.
01:32:34 You put it on TV, I'm going to watch it.
01:32:35 And it also feels like, "Ooh, nice.
01:32:37 This team could get ... Who else?"
01:32:38 I don't know why I said that because it isn't an option.
01:32:41 I say the same shit sometimes.
01:32:42 People will say the same shit to me about ... I hate watching ... I don't feel this
01:32:47 way about Houston, but if you find Houston basketball disgusting and you're just like,
01:32:50 "I can't watch this kind of basketball," people will say, "Well, just don't watch."
01:32:54 I mean, I have to watch.
01:32:56 You also have to realize that-
01:32:57 We're not going to watch one of the best teams in the country.
01:32:58 The play-in is objectively hilarious, too, for the teams that do lose, like Brandon Walker's
01:33:03 Mississippi State last year.
01:33:04 Yes.
01:33:05 And TJ the Rutgers lost a few years ago.
01:33:07 They didn't make the tournament.
01:33:08 You get to do that with your friends.
01:33:09 Right.
01:33:10 Where you're like, "You weren't really in the tournament."
01:33:11 Right, right.
01:33:12 So I love the play-in.
01:33:13 Right.
01:33:14 I do like the play-in.
01:33:15 I do think that it should be official, though.
01:33:16 I do think that Mississippi State last year should have officially not made the tournament.
01:33:19 Yes.
01:33:20 Right.
01:33:21 I'm fine with that, but I just like the idea that-
01:33:22 They should keep it.
01:33:23 You can basically play ... The play-in is basically a choose your own adventure, where it's like
01:33:26 the losing teams, you can be like, "Yeah, they didn't make it."
01:33:28 There's always somebody that argues that we should not make the 16s play, but I think
01:33:33 the 16s want to play.
01:33:35 Yeah.
01:33:36 That's another thing.
01:33:37 They get a chance to win a tournament game.
01:33:38 Right.
01:33:39 That's cool.
01:33:40 Right.
01:33:41 Otherwise, and I get it, they want to play against a 1C.
01:33:42 Yeah.
01:33:43 That's cool, but I don't know.
01:33:45 I like the play-in.
01:33:46 I'm a big fan of the play-in.
01:33:48 All right, Pac-12, real quick.
01:33:51 Arizona, Swan Song.
01:33:53 Arizona's for real.
01:33:54 Arizona is for real.
01:33:55 They play Washington State tonight.
01:33:56 Yeah, it should be a great game.
01:33:58 Great game.
01:33:59 Washington State's second best team in the Pac-12.
01:34:00 Yeah.
01:34:01 Is there a chance, though, that Tommy Lloyd spent a little too much time with Mark Few,
01:34:06 and he's always going to be just close enough?
01:34:09 I know.
01:34:10 He's got a little too much Mark Few.
01:34:12 Well, Arizona, Purdue losing last year is the greatest thing that happened to Tommy
01:34:17 Lloyd.
01:34:18 Yeah.
01:34:19 Nobody remembers that Arizona lost to-
01:34:20 Prince, 15 seed.
01:34:21 Yeah.
01:34:22 Yeah, no, you're right.
01:34:23 They were the two seed.
01:34:24 Right.
01:34:25 Yeah.
01:34:26 He's been ... He is starting to get into that range of like ... I think that's why he lost
01:34:28 some of these games this year, because Arizona is ... They are very good.
01:34:31 Their national title good, and the Final Four's in Phoenix, which is an interesting wrinkle.
01:34:35 The Pac-12 having its last year, there's a lot of stars aligning for the Arizona Redemption.
01:34:41 I think they're not having quite as good of a year as they probably should be.
01:34:46 I think that might be on purpose, because Tommy Lloyd was getting way too many of those
01:34:49 graphics that are like, "This is the hottest start anybody's ever had to a college basketball
01:34:54 coaching career."
01:34:56 You don't want that when you've had the last two tournament exits they've had.
01:35:00 Like Houston was way better than them the year that they lost.
01:35:03 That was a Sweet 16 at least.
01:35:06 But Houston just manhandled them when Arizona's probably the best team in the country a couple
01:35:09 years ago.
01:35:10 Then you lose to a 15 seed last year.
01:35:12 Yeah, it's ... I don't want to say Tommy Lloyd ... He just signed an extension, and I think
01:35:18 most people realize he is an incredible ... He's still two or three years away from getting
01:35:22 the narrative.
01:35:23 Mark, yeah, but there's been a couple ... They lost at Oregon State, I want to say, and then
01:35:27 that game at home where they struggled with UCLA for the entire game.
01:35:31 Right.
01:35:32 They let Stanford score 100 on them.
01:35:33 But I think that's smart.
01:35:35 I think he's got to show more cracks in the regular season.
01:35:38 If you're dominant through the regular season, and then you fuck it up in March ...
01:35:41 That's true.
01:35:42 That's what Gonzaga used to do.
01:35:43 That's what looks embarrassing.
01:35:44 But if you have seven or eight losses entering the tournament, and you lose in the Sweet
01:35:48 16, it's not a bad year.
01:35:49 It's not a bad year.
01:35:50 It's like Izzo, right?
01:35:51 Yeah.
01:35:52 He limps in the tournament sometimes.
01:35:53 You don't expect it.
01:35:54 You're like, "What a great coach."
01:35:55 Yeah, if Michigan State makes the Sweet 16 this year, that's going to feel like a great
01:35:59 accomplishment.
01:36:00 Incredible accomplishment.
01:36:01 Yeah, they were ... You picked them to play the National Championship.
01:36:02 Yeah, I picked them.
01:36:03 Yeah.
01:36:04 Well, they're a great team.
01:36:05 They're a fantastic team.
01:36:06 Very hard to beat at home, especially early on in the season.
01:36:07 Your National Title contender, if you go in and you defeat Michigan State when they were
01:36:11 what, ranked number four at the time?
01:36:13 Yep.
01:36:14 You'd have to be a great team to do that.
01:36:15 You should get an auto-bed to the NCAA Tournament, right?
01:36:16 Yeah.
01:36:17 Agreed.
01:36:18 Let's talk Sunbelt, Mark.
01:36:19 No, we won't talk Sunbelt.
01:36:20 ACC.
01:36:21 So I miss ... I'm going to say it.
01:36:22 I miss Coach K. Big time.
01:36:24 I miss having him around.
01:36:25 I miss the rivalries.
01:36:26 I miss him lecturing people.
01:36:27 I miss getting to talk about Coach K. And it feels like it's not just Duke, but a little
01:36:34 bit of the shine is off the ACC now without Coach K.
01:36:37 It is.
01:36:39 Duke is sneaky putting it together a little bit right now.
01:36:43 But yeah, it's not the same.
01:36:46 Carolinas, I think beyond Coach K, the ACC lost a lot of characters.
01:36:52 They lost Roy, they lost Boeheim, they lost Mike Bray who nobody talks about.
01:36:56 Dude, how about Boeheim calling games?
01:36:59 I turned on a random ACC game the other day and I was like, "Is this Boeheim?"
01:37:02 And he was just so curmudgeonly.
01:37:04 I was like, "It is Boeheim."
01:37:05 I don't like him calling games.
01:37:07 He should be the halftime and the ...
01:37:09 Yeah, it was so weird.
01:37:11 He should be in the studio.
01:37:12 He was just kind of in his whiny voice and I was just like, "What is going on right now?"
01:37:16 But yeah, we lost a lot of ACC guys.
01:37:19 And Virginia is still technically one of the better teams in the conference and now Virginia
01:37:26 is as bad as ...
01:37:28 When Virginia had those good teams and everyone was like, "This team cannot score the basketball,"
01:37:32 they were wrong.
01:37:33 They actually could.
01:37:34 They just played slow.
01:37:35 But their offense was incredible.
01:37:37 They had NBA players and they got good shots and they made them.
01:37:41 This is actually what Virginia basketball was to all the people back in the day.
01:37:46 This specific Virginia team is disgusting.
01:37:48 Just disgusting basketball.
01:37:50 They play great defense.
01:37:51 They cannot score to save their lives.
01:37:53 And the problem the ACC has is that they are still one of the better teams in the ACC.
01:37:58 And they are just like ... They are very, very offensive.
01:38:01 Yeah, when they're good, when they win games, you can be like, "This is ... If you're a
01:38:05 real basketball head, you love Virginia basketball because they suffocate you.
01:38:08 They smother you.
01:38:09 They're careful.
01:38:10 They're deliberate."
01:38:11 But then when they can't score, it's just like, "This is bad basketball."
01:38:14 It's bad basketball, yeah.
01:38:16 What is Tony Bennett's philosophy on just how he plays?
01:38:20 What is the driving force behind why he chooses to play such a weird brand of basketball?
01:38:25 His dad, I think.
01:38:26 I think it was just his dad.
01:38:27 Wisconsin?
01:38:28 Yeah, his dad did it and he did it that way.
01:38:30 It literally is just ... If you're from Wisconsin, you got to play boring basketball.
01:38:34 Yeah.
01:38:35 I don't know.
01:38:36 It makes sense in an antiquated way where it was like, "We want to work for a good shot.
01:38:41 Work the ball.
01:38:42 Wait till you get a ... Don't shoot bad shots.
01:38:45 That checks out."
01:38:46 The value of each possession?
01:38:47 Yeah.
01:38:48 I think there was a lot of ... The pack line defense is like, "Make them shoot further
01:38:52 from the basket," which was smart strategy in the '80s.
01:38:55 Yeah.
01:38:56 Now it's like that's where everybody wants to shoot from.
01:38:58 Yeah.
01:38:59 I also think it's like a lot of these teams ... Virginia, obviously, you said when they
01:39:01 won the national title, they had NBA dudes.
01:39:04 It's smart when you have a team that maybe doesn't have that one or two guys that can
01:39:09 beat everyone off the dribble.
01:39:10 It's like, "All right, we're going to work as a team to get these good shots."
01:39:13 Right.
01:39:14 Right.
01:39:15 I think the introduction of the ball screen has just completely changed everything.
01:39:19 Somewhere along the ... And Steph Curry, it was the ball screen plus Steph Curry that
01:39:22 have just revolutionized this game.
01:39:24 If only Steph Curry would have been recruited by any team that was around him when he was
01:39:27 growing up.
01:39:28 Right.
01:39:29 Yeah.
01:39:30 Yeah.
01:39:31 Yeah, damn.
01:39:32 Yeah.
01:39:33 You know what?
01:39:34 In all the Steph Curry, Virginia Tech angles I've thought of, it never did cross my mind
01:39:36 that Virginia plays the pack line and they give up threes and they're fine giving up
01:39:42 threes and Steph Curry could have gone to Virginia Tech.
01:39:45 Yeah.
01:39:46 Just fucking bring threes on Virginia.
01:39:48 Really Virginia should have recruited Steph Curry because if they ...
01:39:51 Everyone should.
01:39:52 Yeah, true.
01:39:53 But especially Virginia because if they knew that Tech wasn't recruiting him, at least
01:39:58 you get the opportunity to be like, "We got this guy and it's a big fuck you to Virginia
01:40:02 Tech."
01:40:03 Right?
01:40:04 Yeah.
01:40:05 That's a good point.
01:40:06 Yeah.
01:40:07 That's a big miss.
01:40:08 I wonder if that should be a recruiting strategy.
01:40:09 Yeah, recruit the sons that the dad's alma mater doesn't want.
01:40:14 Yeah, and then you can be like the whole time, like they didn't want you.
01:40:17 Yeah.
01:40:18 And fire you up that way.
01:40:19 Yeah, that's right.
01:40:20 Yeah.
01:40:21 Yeah.
01:40:22 All right, we got to mention the Mountain West so Mountain West fans don't get mad.
01:40:23 Yeah.
01:40:24 They're starting to piss me off, Mountain West fans.
01:40:26 I don't know.
01:40:27 Why?
01:40:28 I think because there was the narrative that they couldn't do it in the tournament, then
01:40:30 San Diego State.
01:40:32 Maybe it's just one guy.
01:40:33 Last night I was watching that awesome, awesome New Mexico, Colorado State game and someone's
01:40:38 like, "Oh, just finding out about the Mountain West."
01:40:40 Like, "Fuck you, dude."
01:40:41 Yeah, I fucking watched the Mountain West.
01:40:42 Yeah.
01:40:43 I fucking lost.
01:40:44 I'm pretty sure that UNLV threw a game against Air Force a month ago that I bet on and I
01:40:49 watched every possession of them.
01:40:50 They lost by like 30.
01:40:51 I watched the Mountain West.
01:40:53 So they got hockey fan energy?
01:40:54 Yeah, they're a little bit like, "Oh, now you're paying attention to the Mountain West."
01:40:58 To be clear, this is one fan.
01:40:59 No, but they ... No, no.
01:41:00 This is one guy that they cast fan at.
01:41:03 No, Mountain West fans do have a little chip on their shoulder.
01:41:05 Yeah.
01:41:06 They got to earn chip because they did have all those years where it was great basketball
01:41:09 to watch and then they get to the tournament and they'd be out in like ... Remember the
01:41:12 year they were out in 10 hours?
01:41:13 Right.
01:41:14 Yeah.
01:41:15 So they have a chip.
01:41:16 I do remember that.
01:41:17 But I liked Mountain West.
01:41:18 It's fun basketball to watch.
01:41:19 It's been great this year.
01:41:20 It's so fun.
01:41:21 They might get six bids.
01:41:22 Yeah.
01:41:23 Yeah.
01:41:24 The UNLV should not make it for that one game I'm talking about.
01:41:26 But they have the same problem PFT said.
01:41:29 It's like whoever's at home.
01:41:30 Yeah.
01:41:31 Well, no, they lost at home by 30 to the Air Force.
01:41:34 I'm pretty sure they ...
01:41:35 Oh, UNLV.
01:41:36 Did you talk about UNLV?
01:41:37 I'm pretty sure that was a point-shaving game.
01:41:39 Yeah.
01:41:40 I can't make sense of who the best team in the Mountain West is.
01:41:43 It depends on basically what I just saw.
01:41:45 I think New Mexico probably has the highest ceiling.
01:41:49 They feel like the team that ... They make the most sense to me.
01:41:54 I like their guards.
01:41:55 But yeah, Utah State is probably the answer.
01:42:00 They're probably going to win the league, right?
01:42:02 The one thing that worries me about Utah State, they haven't played a single power conference
01:42:05 team all year.
01:42:06 Yeah.
01:42:07 When I realized that, that definitely worried me.
01:42:11 San Diego State is ... When the bracket comes out, I'm going to make San Diego State go
01:42:15 the furthest of any Mountain West team though.
01:42:17 Yeah.
01:42:18 Because it's just ... It's last year bias, but it's also like they do have the pedigree.
01:42:22 And they were the one team that ... They've never had obviously a Final Four run, but
01:42:25 they were the one team that would have some semblance of success out of the Mountain West.
01:42:30 Right.
01:42:31 And they would go to Sweet 16 every so often.
01:42:35 So I think San Diego State will probably end up still being the team.
01:42:39 But yeah, fun league.
01:42:40 Very fun.
01:42:41 It is fun league.
01:42:42 It has become the league that's like, if you don't know what game to watch, just throw
01:42:45 on a random ass Mountain West game.
01:42:47 It might be the hipsters basketball.
01:42:48 Yeah, that's what it is.
01:42:49 That's what it is.
01:42:50 Yeah, it definitely is.
01:42:51 It does have that energy because it is like every night you can watch a great Mountain
01:42:54 West game.
01:42:55 It's what the A10 used to be that way.
01:42:56 Yeah, you're right.
01:42:57 And the Mountain West has kind of become that.
01:42:58 Yeah, you're right.
01:42:59 It used to be like, oh yeah, no one's talking about VCU, Dayton, all this.
01:43:03 You're absolutely right.
01:43:04 The Mountain West is the new A10.
01:43:05 This Richmond.
01:43:06 Yeah.
01:43:07 Yeah.
01:43:08 Watch out for Bonnie's.
01:43:09 St. Bonaventure game.
01:43:10 Yeah.
01:43:11 Popping off.
01:43:12 Yeah.
01:43:13 The Mr. Beer guy, he actually, I think his name was Dom.
01:43:17 Awesome dude.
01:43:18 Remember the St. Bonnie's fan who used to wear the beer hat and they'd show him at every
01:43:22 game.
01:43:23 Captain Beer.
01:43:24 Captain Beer.
01:43:25 He did an awesome move.
01:43:27 He passed down the hat.
01:43:28 That's good.
01:43:29 So there's a new Captain Beer.
01:43:31 That's a fucking great move.
01:43:33 That's a great move for college basketball.
01:43:34 Like if you're a fan and you're in the student section, can you imagine continuing to go
01:43:37 back to that fan section?
01:43:39 Maybe wearing the same sunglasses that you've worn every single year.
01:43:44 That'd be weird.
01:43:45 He came to the office and he brought us some merch, some Captain Beer merch.
01:43:49 Guy rocks.
01:43:50 Speaking of TJ, how awesome is it getting to host a daily show, which I love by the
01:43:55 way, mostly sports.
01:43:56 You have a cast of characters.
01:43:57 Yeah, you guys have both of them.
01:43:58 Yeah.
01:43:59 I mean, I love TJ.
01:44:00 I love Ibo.
01:44:01 Love Connor.
01:44:02 You got everybody.
01:44:03 So Cody, it's got Cody.
01:44:05 It's got, it's gotta be a great time hosting that show.
01:44:07 Fun.
01:44:08 Uh, yeah, it's, it's fun hosting, especially when you guys are, are hosting it with me.
01:44:12 Yeah.
01:44:13 That's, that's when I enjoy it the most is when, uh, I look across the desk and I see,
01:44:15 uh, face our respect like one of you two, like one of us.
01:44:18 I should thank you though.
01:44:20 Um, because you doing mostly sports with, what's his name?
01:44:24 Brendan, Brendan Walker.
01:44:26 Brendan, Brendan Walker.
01:44:27 There's no D uh, you doing mostly sports with Brendan Walker has definitely cleared my schedule
01:44:31 a little bit with, uh, his anxiety phone calls.
01:44:34 I'm assuming they're going to you cause I know they're not fixed.
01:44:38 I assume they're just going to you.
01:44:39 He does.
01:44:40 He helps my anxiety cause I have a ton of anxiety as well.
01:44:43 But then I see Brandon and I'm like, do I look like that?
01:44:46 Yeah.
01:44:47 It like forces you into a, uh, like a leadership role.
01:44:50 Yeah, exactly.
01:44:51 You have to calm him down.
01:44:52 Somebody has to put it forces you into perspective about yourself.
01:44:55 Yeah.
01:44:56 He does.
01:44:57 Um, but no, we, we, we love the show.
01:44:59 It's been great.
01:45:00 We love that.
01:45:01 Uh, yeah, you guys help out with the show when, when, when asked, called upon.
01:45:06 Yeah.
01:45:07 When called upon, it's been a fun show.
01:45:08 Now, is it going to be a disappointment for you if you don't get ranked as the number
01:45:11 one college basketball personality?
01:45:14 Uh, no.
01:45:16 Cause I, I don't know.
01:45:18 I don't know what's funnier is if I do or if, um, the funniest outcome would be if you
01:45:23 were ranked number like two or three and then Brennan Walker got you a giant banner to hang
01:45:28 up that said, yeah, yeah.
01:45:30 Number two college basketball personality.
01:45:31 Yeah, that's probably, that's probably true.
01:45:33 Are you guys still in the honeymoon where like, have you, has, have you had the time?
01:45:38 Cause this happens to every show that's ever been created on the internet where like, I
01:45:42 don't know, a year in everyone's like, this show sucks now.
01:45:44 There's, uh, we're not there yet, but I feel it.
01:45:47 Uh, Brandon pointed out that we have like a Reddit now.
01:45:49 Oh, that's, that's the first time.
01:45:51 Then it's over.
01:45:52 I thought that Brandon made the mistake where he's like, we apparently have a Reddit and
01:45:56 everybody's super nice.
01:45:57 And I was like, yeah, for now that's the problem.
01:46:00 Yeah.
01:46:01 Yeah.
01:46:02 Some, some, some light advice.
01:46:03 Take it or leave it.
01:46:04 Uh, just don't read the red.
01:46:05 Yeah.
01:46:06 Never go on it.
01:46:07 And then you don't have to worry about it.
01:46:08 We do have this problem and I don't know if you guys can relate.
01:46:09 Uh, Connor, who's like kind of a side character, but we let him use, we let him talk every
01:46:13 so often.
01:46:14 He's a big Philly guy and his opinions about Philly sports just fucking stink.
01:46:18 Yeah.
01:46:19 So we get a lot of shit where it's like, shut this Philly asshole up, please.
01:46:24 I don't want to hear from this Philly piece of shit.
01:46:27 Um, and I don't know why I'm asking.
01:46:29 I, I, it's just something that like we're trying to, we're trying to deal with that.
01:46:34 Uh, cause we, we, we enjoy it, but also like the fans just hate his fucking guts and that's
01:46:40 a little weird.
01:46:41 He's not Italian though.
01:46:43 So you're, you're good.
01:46:44 Cause the, I think Max's personality is more Italian than Philly.
01:46:49 It's a lethal combination where he'll start a sentence and finish it with his hands.
01:46:53 I'm like, dude, I don't know sign language.
01:46:55 We weren't talking about me.
01:46:56 No, we're talking about Connor.
01:46:57 We're talking about color.
01:46:58 You just said my name.
01:46:59 Well, no, because I was saying like, as long as Connor's not Italian or becomes Italian,
01:47:03 you should be okay.
01:47:04 What is he?
01:47:05 Irish, German, Irish.
01:47:06 You're fine.
01:47:07 You're fine.
01:47:08 He's Irish, right?
01:47:09 Yeah.
01:47:10 Yeah.
01:47:11 Connor's an Irish name.
01:47:12 Connor Griffin.
01:47:13 He has great takes.
01:47:14 Probably I have redhead.
01:47:15 Yeah.
01:47:16 People get pissed off when you have that one guy that, uh, his name starts with E and
01:47:18 he always talks about JMU.
01:47:20 That's a bad person to have on a podcast.
01:47:22 Um, all right.
01:47:24 National title.
01:47:25 And we're going to have you back on obviously for the brackets when they are announced,
01:47:28 but uh, give it to us.
01:47:29 Give me, give us a final four.
01:47:30 Okay.
01:47:31 Final four.
01:47:32 Uh, possible to do without a breath.
01:47:33 Yeah.
01:47:34 It's also impossible cause I did have this realization the other day that, uh, I don't
01:47:36 think I can think of four teams that I trust to win four NCAA tournament games in a row
01:47:40 right now, which is a problem because four teams will by definition, four teams, uh,
01:47:47 UConn and Purdue feel obvious.
01:47:52 I mean like, that's what I'm going to, I'm going to just, okay.
01:47:55 All right.
01:47:56 I have to think this through.
01:47:58 Um, cause everybody wants you to pick like a, a wild card, but the reason they are a
01:48:04 wild card is cause they've kind of sucked this year.
01:48:06 Right.
01:48:07 So like the, why would I pick them?
01:48:09 Uh, I, I think Purdue is going to make the final four.
01:48:13 I said that at the start of the year, I think Purdue is going to get their redemption in
01:48:16 the sense that they're going to make the final four and not win a national championship.
01:48:20 Uh, I do feel like Houston's defense is Houston is, uh, the, the jump up to the big 12 is
01:48:27 going to help them immensely.
01:48:28 And I, I, I have to trust Houston.
01:48:31 Um, I don't think you can, is going to do it.
01:48:34 Oh, I think you can is good.
01:48:36 I think you can is, is very, very good.
01:48:38 I just think like back to back championships is hard back to back final fours was very
01:48:42 hard.
01:48:43 And uh, yeah, I, I like UConn, like even Villanova did like they Villanova was the,
01:48:49 the year in between the national title.
01:48:51 Like they Villanova had an awesome team and they got tripped up.
01:48:53 It's like you get, who beat him?
01:48:55 I can't remember.
01:48:56 Who cares?
01:48:57 I can't remember.
01:48:58 Oh, you didn't even get out of the second round.
01:49:00 You were the one seed.
01:49:02 I'll take a second round exit sandwich.
01:49:05 Who did beat him?
01:49:06 Who did beat him?
01:49:07 Uh, who cares?
01:49:09 I'm just asking.
01:49:10 I'm nervous.
01:49:11 Like we're, we're doing a sports show.
01:49:12 It seems like you know the answer.
01:49:13 You know the answer.
01:49:14 Yeah, it was this Wisconsin bad.
01:49:16 Oh, it was Wisconsin.
01:49:17 That's like that.
01:49:18 Matt's pot.
01:49:19 It's crazy.
01:49:20 Uh, but yeah, I think you cons in a position right now where the, the foreseeable future,
01:49:26 they will be national title contenders, but I'm going to pick them to have to get tripped
01:49:31 up like in the sweet 16 this year.
01:49:33 Uh, so I got Purdue.
01:49:35 I'll, I'll take Houston.
01:49:36 Give me Arizona.
01:49:37 Cause I like that.
01:49:38 That's a sexy, this, that's a sexy idea of like Arizona being in Phoenix and the final
01:49:42 four last year, the pack 12 and then I got to ride with Tennessee who I said, big cat.
01:49:47 When you, when you came on my show, they were one of my picks and we, we talked about national
01:49:51 title picks.
01:49:52 Uh, yeah, we threw out Michigan state in Tennessee.
01:49:54 Yeah.
01:49:55 So you picked three number ones in a number two.
01:49:57 Yeah, yeah, exactly.
01:49:58 Who do you, what's the, let me pull a bracket matrix.
01:50:01 What do you want me to pick?
01:50:02 What's, what's low enough?
01:50:03 Well, I was going to pick Indiana state, but right now in Lenardy, I can't quit Kentucky.
01:50:08 Uh, Kentucky is probably going to be like a 60.
01:50:10 They're five seed maybe.
01:50:12 Um, I'll go with, I'm going to go with, uh, Nebraska.
01:50:20 I'll pick, uh, I'll pick Ole Miss.
01:50:24 Okay.
01:50:25 Um, nice Vermont.
01:50:27 Yup.
01:50:28 Give me Nevada.
01:50:30 Yup.
01:50:31 Uh, and South Florida.
01:50:33 Actually South Florida is, yeah, they are.
01:50:35 South Florida.
01:50:36 They're very fun.
01:50:37 They're a fun team.
01:50:40 Yeah.
01:50:41 Uh, they, they, they want a big time trap spot last dude.
01:50:43 Fuck it.
01:50:44 I'll pick bother in the final four then.
01:50:45 Love it.
01:50:46 Take out, take out, uh, I can't wait to Butler.
01:50:49 Take out Houston and put in Butler.
01:50:50 Yeah.
01:50:51 Give me your NIT final four.
01:50:52 Uh, Buckeyes, Buckeyes are back.
01:50:55 We got Purdue.
01:50:56 So we're back in the NIT picture.
01:50:58 Um, Buckeyes, JMU.
01:51:00 There we go.
01:51:01 I would love that.
01:51:02 Beautiful.
01:51:03 That was a, that was a go.
01:51:04 That was a, yeah, we should.
01:51:05 That was a women's.
01:51:06 It was at a women's like round of 16 game last year.
01:51:09 Cause I think me and you bet on that, right?
01:51:10 You know what?
01:51:11 Now that I think about it, that was my, uh, yeah, we did.
01:51:14 And I think I owe you something.
01:51:15 It was a mustache bet.
01:51:17 Yeah.
01:51:18 I had to show her so many bets going on.
01:51:19 Yeah.
01:51:20 The, I, it was such a whirl because I, I, that was my welcome to barstool moment in
01:51:25 terms of the gambling was, uh, we bet on the Ohio state JMU women, Ohio state one by like
01:51:31 23 or something.
01:51:33 And PFT was cackling in my face like, ha ha.
01:51:36 Gotcha.
01:51:37 Gotcha.
01:51:38 And I was like, what is going on?
01:51:39 Gotcha.
01:51:40 Loser.
01:51:41 Yeah.
01:51:42 I don't like looking at bracketology right now.
01:51:43 Cause I'm, I just pulled it up in Wisconsin's playing Indiana state in the first round.
01:51:47 And that's a loss.
01:51:48 Jake, I have a question for you with a bracketology.
01:51:50 Um, how do you feel about Joe Lennarty becoming the lightning rod for like anytime a coach
01:51:56 has a problem with how his, where, where he's at in, in the bracketing, they just, they
01:52:02 go after Lennarty.
01:52:03 Uh, he gets so much shit.
01:52:05 And I don't necessarily think Lennarty is the best bracketologist, but I just find it
01:52:08 fascinating that Joe Lennarty has created this industry where he's just like, here's
01:52:13 what I think the selection committee is going to do.
01:52:15 And then every time around this year, like a team that's on the bubble, their coach will
01:52:19 do a press conference.
01:52:20 We're like, Oh, one more thing.
01:52:21 But before I go, fuck you, Joe Lennarty, Joe Lennarty is like, what did I do?
01:52:26 Well, Mark, as someone who tried going down the path of being a bracketologist for one
01:52:30 season, I can tell you that role is absolute hell.
01:52:33 Yeah.
01:52:34 No way to make anyone happy.
01:52:36 I left Wisconsin under my preseason bracket two years ago.
01:52:39 And the captain did not shut up about it.
01:52:41 Well, you shouldn't have done that.
01:52:42 Cause you just copied whatever they said.
01:52:45 I wanted a true real bracketologist.
01:52:47 They were projected not to do well that year.
01:52:49 Projected?
01:52:50 Who projects?
01:52:51 It's, it's an impossible job.
01:52:52 It is impossible.
01:52:54 There is no way to make anybody happy.
01:52:56 It's impossible.
01:52:57 It is impossible.
01:52:58 I agree with that.
01:52:59 The crazy part about it is it's actually like super easy because when you're, when you're
01:53:04 forecasting the field and this a tournament, you're basically, you're looking at like a
01:53:07 pool of like eight teams and you're picking five of those eight to make the tournament.
01:53:12 That's really all it comes down to.
01:53:14 And somehow, I don't know how, but just like the idea that Lennarty is the only one that
01:53:19 like, would you take that as a point of pride though, Jake?
01:53:21 They like, you're the guy that everybody wants to attack.
01:53:23 Are you like, this is fucking insane.
01:53:25 Why is everybody coming to mind that?
01:53:26 I think that ESPN has the rights to like 85% of college basketball games.
01:53:29 He's the easiest target.
01:53:31 Well, he was the first.
01:53:32 It is true.
01:53:33 He did his first field of study.
01:53:35 The fact that he put ology at the end of it makes it seem like there's a lot more of a
01:53:39 science.
01:53:40 There's a part time class you could take with him.
01:53:41 I don't know if it still exists.
01:53:42 It's not really his opinions though.
01:53:43 That's what I find hilarious about it.
01:53:45 It's like Joe, Joe Lennarty in his mind, he's like, this is science, dude.
01:53:49 Like I'm not.
01:53:50 He's just doing what they think they will do.
01:53:51 Right.
01:53:52 You don't see people coming for Jerry Palm.
01:53:54 Right, right.
01:53:55 It's all Lennarty.
01:53:56 It's always Lennarty.
01:53:57 And, uh, and he's just like, every time he's on TV, he's just like the biggest teddy bear
01:54:01 looking dude.
01:54:02 And the idea that like these coaches are behind closed doors, like, fuck, we got to fucking
01:54:05 kill this guy.
01:54:06 It's just one guy that's like locked in his basement.
01:54:08 The bunker.
01:54:09 Also, Jerry Palm, you can't go at him because his hair, like, what are you gonna say?
01:54:13 Like look at him and you're like, your hair, dude.
01:54:16 Like he kind of, he kind of just put a speed bump in front of all haters.
01:54:19 Like we're going to make fun of that.
01:54:21 Look at his hair.
01:54:23 You're out of the bracketology game.
01:54:24 I did it for one season and it was a huge mistake.
01:54:27 Yeah.
01:54:28 I've been trying to find like a field for Blake to get into because Leroy's thing was
01:54:32 breaking news and he was really good at it.
01:54:34 Blake might become a bracketologist.
01:54:35 Should we have him do a whole bracket?
01:54:37 You should become a CBI bracketologist.
01:54:40 He could be a bracketologist.
01:54:41 Maybe he could also be like a NFL news aggregator, like a Dove Kleinman.
01:54:45 Yeah.
01:54:46 Yeah.
01:54:47 Football.
01:54:48 Yeah.
01:54:49 But yeah, maybe, maybe bracketology.
01:54:50 Blake-atology.
01:54:51 Yeah.
01:54:52 That works.
01:54:53 That would be the NCAA or the NIT.
01:54:54 It should be the CBI or whatever.
01:54:55 CIT.
01:54:56 I don't even know if that exists anymore.
01:54:57 CIT.
01:54:58 That would rock.
01:54:59 If he was a CBI or, or it would be even better if he was like bracketologist for like the
01:55:06 Maui tournament.
01:55:07 Yeah.
01:55:08 Yeah.
01:55:09 It's like, we already know who's going to play next year.
01:55:12 Just make the bracket.
01:55:13 Or just do champ week where it's predetermined.
01:55:15 Oh yeah.
01:55:16 Dude.
01:55:17 Yeah.
01:55:18 There you go.
01:55:19 Conference championship week bracketology.
01:55:20 Yeah.
01:55:21 I like that a lot.
01:55:22 You talk about Tennessee.
01:55:23 I'm going to go back to them real quick because I, there are two teams I bet on preseason.
01:55:26 One is Houston.
01:55:27 The other is Tennessee and I feel like I'm getting big T poisoning in my ears all the
01:55:31 time, but I still, they're a very fun team to watch.
01:55:34 I actually think that would've been good last year if Ziegler didn't tear it.
01:55:37 Wait, towards ACL.
01:55:38 Yeah.
01:55:39 Yeah.
01:55:40 And he didn't play in the tournament.
01:55:41 Yeah.
01:55:42 Last year felt like, I don't know if I just liked the guy cause he's like five, eight,
01:55:44 but he's fun to watch.
01:55:46 Don't connect might be the most electric score in college.
01:55:49 He is.
01:55:50 Yeah.
01:55:51 He's so fun.
01:55:52 He is.
01:55:53 It's the problem with guys like him is when he's not on and it's, it, and it's not all
01:55:59 there.
01:56:00 Uh, he'll drive you insane cause he is, he is, he does get a little, he like spaces out
01:56:04 on when he's playing.
01:56:05 Like he doesn't play defense and he doesn't really like sometimes offensively he's like
01:56:09 kind of doesn't understand what the rest of the team is doing, but like when he's rolling,
01:56:13 he's, he's, he's the most electric score in college basketball.
01:56:16 Absolutely.
01:56:17 Which is the reason I've talked myself into Tennessee all season, even as they lose.
01:56:20 Um, I trust that like, like cause the Rick Barnes in March thing is very real, but it's
01:56:25 also, uh, he's, he made the sweet 16 last year and like it is, it is like a, and he's
01:56:31 made a final four before in his life.
01:56:33 Um, so I don't, I don't fully understand what I, like Dan, you'll say you'll be like Rick
01:56:39 Barnes in March and I'm like, yeah, exactly.
01:56:41 What does that mean again?
01:56:42 It just means they're just going to look, you just visualize it.
01:56:45 He's not going to win a national championship.
01:56:46 Right?
01:56:47 Like he's, no, they're just, you just, you just close your eyes and you're like, oh yeah,
01:56:50 there he goes.
01:56:51 Right down the tunnel.
01:56:52 Uh, 16 loss.
01:56:53 I can't visualize him like for a week leading up to the final four, like doing all the press
01:56:59 conferences talking about getting his team ready for a final four.
01:57:02 I just don't see Rick Barnes in that role.
01:57:04 But he's done it.
01:57:05 He's very good.
01:57:06 He's made a final four.
01:57:07 Yeah, but he's very good.
01:57:08 But he just, it's Rick Barnes in March.
01:57:11 Yeah.
01:57:12 Um, but I, I think this team is different than the Tennessee teams of the past because
01:57:14 of Dalton connect and, and the Kai Ziegler is a great, great offensive player too.
01:57:18 And he's, he's gotten a lot better throughout his career.
01:57:21 So, um, yeah, they have a good, they have a good offense.
01:57:23 They do have, they have offensive weapons in a way they haven't since basically Grant
01:57:28 Williams and Admiral Schofield, which is a team that, you know, haha, Rick Barnes in
01:57:33 March, but like that, if you remember that tournament, 2019, that was like Tony Ben,
01:57:39 Virginia fucked that all up for, for Purdue and, and, and Tennessee, because like all
01:57:44 three of those teams in that bracket were good enough to make a final four.
01:57:48 All of those games were closed.
01:57:49 Like Purdue, Purdue, Tennessee game was awesome.
01:57:52 One team had to win.
01:57:53 Whoever was going to lose that game was going to get point laughed at and be like, you always
01:57:56 fuck this up in March.
01:57:58 And then the next round, the exact same thing happened with Purdue and Virginia where Purdue
01:58:02 had Virginia beat Virginia wins on a, or sends it the, uh, they, they won, they won on the
01:58:07 last second shot.
01:58:08 Um, and uh, that's how Purdue loses.
01:58:12 And uh, now all of a sudden it's like Purdue can't get it done in March.
01:58:14 I don't know.
01:58:15 This shit drives me crazy.
01:58:16 Like it makes no fucking sense, but then it kind of does make sense.
01:58:20 Yeah.
01:58:21 Mark Gonzaga is never going to make it.
01:58:22 But what I was saying, the point was this team offensively, I trust more than any team
01:58:27 since the 2019 Tennessee team.
01:58:29 And yes, that team lost in the sweet 16.
01:58:31 But if you go back and see how they lost in the sweet 16, Rick, like see how you did that.
01:58:37 Looked at his calendar.
01:58:38 Oh shit.
01:58:39 Oh shit.
01:58:40 Well, I was ready to do that.
01:58:41 All right, well Titus, Rick Barnes, Rick Barnes, Rick Barnes, Rick Barnes, March.
01:58:46 Who's who, who, who do we trust?
01:58:48 That's going to win a national championship this year.
01:58:50 Dan's early.
01:58:51 Cause I saw it last year.
01:58:52 Yeah, that's it.
01:58:53 That's it.
01:58:54 That's what, that's literally it.
01:58:55 It's like these other guys haven't proven they can win.
01:58:56 It's like, let's like Bill Self.
01:58:58 Are we going to trust Houston?
01:58:59 Like Houston's made one, Kelvin's name has made one final four as a Mickey Mouse run
01:59:03 to the final.
01:59:04 No, it's Bill Self.
01:59:05 Tommy Lloyd chokes in March.
01:59:06 Uh, yeah.
01:59:07 Matt Painter chokes.
01:59:09 It's Bill Self and Danny Hurley.
01:59:10 Barnes chokes.
01:59:11 That's it.
01:59:12 That's it.
01:59:13 And if Jay Wright wants to come back, I'll trust him too.
01:59:15 That's it.
01:59:16 Jay Wright's another perfect example.
01:59:17 Like he, Villanova was the, that's right.
01:59:20 Oh, Jay Wright.
01:59:21 Like they can't, they can't win the big one.
01:59:22 It's like, all right.
01:59:23 Then he just riles off some national titles.
01:59:25 Uh, all right, Titus, thank you so much.
01:59:27 Everyone can tune in to mostly sports every day and the Mark Titus show where he talks
01:59:31 in depth college basketball.
01:59:32 We'll have you back on for the brackets.
01:59:33 Uh, this is the best time of year.
01:59:36 I'm excited guys.
01:59:37 Thanks for having me.
01:59:38 Uh, look forward to, uh, get the bracket in my hand.
01:59:41 Yeah.
01:59:42 Tell Brendan we said hi.
01:59:44 Mark Titus is brought to you by our great friends over at Morgan and Morgan.
01:59:49 Today's fire fest segment is sponsored by Morgan and Morgan.
01:59:51 We had dinner with Dan Morgan the other night.
01:59:54 Great dude.
01:59:55 Talked to him for a long time.
01:59:57 Explained to us some of the inner workings behind Morgan Morgan.
02:00:00 He gaslit BFT and thinking he could pass the bar.
02:00:02 Oh yeah, yeah he did.
02:00:03 So we were talking about Hank being able to dunk and he said that I could pass the bar
02:00:07 way easier than Hank could be able to dunk a basket.
02:00:10 Facts.
02:00:11 Facts.
02:00:12 I'm going to sue you Hank for defamation for saying that I can't pass the bar when I do
02:00:16 pass the bar.
02:00:17 Thanks to our good friends at Morgan and Morgan.

02:01:02 This is a paid advertisement.
02:01:03 Just sitting next to Dan Morgan, having him explain some of the cases they were working
02:01:07 on, it made me think to myself, if I'm ever injured, I know exactly who I'm calling.
02:01:11 That's Morgan and Morgan.
02:01:12 All right, let's wrap up.
02:01:14 Hank, Fyre Fest of the week.
02:01:18 Go ahead.
02:01:19 I may have-
02:01:21 Oh, no.
02:01:22 It's been two days.
02:01:24 It's been two days.
02:01:25 All right, I lost my-
02:01:27 No, no, go ahead.
02:01:28 Say the first one.
02:01:29 It's not a Fyre Fest because it's been two days.
02:01:30 You can't have it be a Fyre Fest two days.
02:01:33 You have nine months.
02:01:34 Is it nine months?
02:01:35 You have 10 months.
02:01:36 No, basically nine.
02:01:37 No, I mean, I've got a lot of people reaching out.
02:01:40 I've actually got a lot of positive reinforcements, which I appreciate.
02:01:42 I got a lot of good advice.
02:01:46 What?
02:01:47 Have a different mom and dad?
02:01:49 No, that's the thing.
02:01:50 I'm athletic.
02:01:51 I just haven't been athletic.
02:01:54 My baseline is so low.
02:01:56 I've chosen not to do athletic things for the last couple years, give or take 10, but
02:02:03 it exists inside me.
02:02:05 I like the belief in yourself, but also you don't have that belief in yourself because
02:02:08 you're thinking about not doing it.
02:02:09 He's already practicing his three point shot.
02:02:11 No, I'm not.
02:02:12 I'm going hard to dunk.
02:02:14 When are you going to transition to threes?
02:02:17 Summer.
02:02:18 Exactly.
02:02:19 It's going to interfere with your golfing, which is a real problem.
02:02:23 I don't think so because I think it's good.
02:02:26 What I've learned, which was surprising, was that obviously you have to train legs, obviously.
02:02:31 You also have to train your hips and your shoulders, which I'm always on the search
02:02:35 for boulders for shoulders.
02:02:37 You've got to train your shoulders heavy so that you have good ... That's a big part of
02:02:41 dunking.
02:02:42 I've learned a lot about dunking in the past couple of days.
02:02:43 What would you say the percentage of positive feedback to negative feedback has been?
02:02:47 That I've read?
02:02:49 I've read 100% negative.
02:02:50 Well, I only read the ones ... I just kind of block out the negative ones.
02:02:54 So you're in the ...
02:02:55 The one that I've noticed, overwhelming.
02:02:58 You're in the information gathering portion of this journey.
02:03:02 Knees over legs.
02:03:04 Knees over shins.
02:03:05 Knees over feet.
02:03:06 I have an Instagram account.
02:03:07 Oh yeah.
02:03:08 I'm following him.
02:03:09 I downloaded a program.
02:03:10 There's a lot, obviously a lot of ... This is probably a common thing.
02:03:12 These are all things that you've done on your phone.
02:03:14 Is it information gathering?
02:03:15 No, I downloaded ... I got a laptop.
02:03:16 I have a whole workout program.
02:03:18 Oh, you found it.
02:03:19 I haven't started.
02:03:20 Yeah, I found my laptop.
02:03:21 I'm excited.
02:03:22 I'm excited for the challenge.
02:03:24 I think it's going to help everything.
02:03:25 I'm going to be athletic.
02:03:26 I'm going to be a better golfer, healthier.
02:03:28 What point do you think you're going to get injured?
02:03:31 We'll see about that.
02:03:32 Okay.
02:03:33 Because it wouldn't be the worst if you had a Tom Skewer.
02:03:34 Once I get injured, then it's all ... Once I get injured, it's all ...
02:03:38 Break your legs, ACL, arm.
02:03:41 I also was thinking I should get something if I do both.
02:03:46 What?
02:03:47 What if I dunk- Now you think you can do both.
02:03:49 And hit 23s?
02:03:50 Well, then you've got to put something else up.
02:03:54 I'm already over leveraged.
02:03:55 Do you want to double down?
02:03:58 No.
02:03:59 $20,000?
02:04:00 No, because I can't ... The bet is if I couldn't do either.
02:04:04 So obviously- All right.
02:04:06 If you do both, then- Careful.
02:04:10 I was going to say if you do both, we'll both get cats.
02:04:16 And if you can't, you have to get a cat.
02:04:18 No.
02:04:19 Okay.
02:04:20 How about if you do both, you get to go on a month-long golf vacation?
02:04:22 No.
02:04:23 No.
02:04:24 No.
02:04:25 No.
02:04:26 No.
02:04:27 No.
02:04:28 No.
02:04:29 No.
02:04:30 No.
02:04:31 Wait.
02:04:32 But if you can't do it, then you have to pay us 10% of your salary for the next five
02:04:33 months.
02:04:34 I'll double the paycheck.
02:04:35 You know what?
02:04:36 I'll double the price.
02:04:37 So I'll give you 20 grand.
02:04:38 If you can't do both, then you have to get a soul patch.
02:04:40 It doesn't matter.
02:04:41 Soul patch.
02:04:42 Yeah.
02:04:43 It's not going to happen.
02:04:44 It's not going to happen.
02:04:45 Soul patch.
02:04:46 Hank, you have an extra day to prepare for 3.9.
02:04:49 Good point, Jay.
02:04:50 It's true.
02:04:51 It's been zoned.
02:04:52 Soul patch.
02:04:53 All right.
02:04:54 We're good.
02:04:55 Oh, that's weird.
02:04:56 By the way, tune in on Monday.
02:04:57 We have Derek White and Peyton Pritchard here, and Hank makes a crazy soul patch bet.
02:05:00 Absolutely not.
02:05:01 Sounded like you did.
02:05:04 No.
02:05:05 And my card.
02:05:06 You're not going to get either of these.
02:05:08 Good.
02:05:09 Keep it coming.
02:05:11 Okay.
02:05:12 You're not going to get either of these.
02:05:14 I just have to basically change my entire lifestyle, way of thinking, and everything
02:05:20 that I've done.
02:05:21 Yeah.
02:05:22 You have to become a new person.
02:05:23 Yeah.
02:05:24 You're not going to get either of these.
02:05:25 But once I do that, then it's going to happen.
02:05:26 New DNA.
02:05:27 No.
02:05:28 My DNA is there.
02:05:29 I'm not going to get bogged down by all the trash I consume.
02:05:34 It is going to be tough to learn how to dunk when you're golfing all summer.
02:05:37 No, I don't think so.
02:05:39 Oh, okay.
02:05:40 I mean, we have a basketball court in our ... I will walk in the course.
02:05:44 PFT, we brought up the rollerblading thing, and I was like, "Absolutely not."
02:05:48 And then I was like, "You know what?
02:05:50 As a person who's training his legs, I am so down to do rollerblade from LA to San Diego."
02:05:55 So getting a country club membership that you're probably going to want to use that
02:05:59 quite a bit this summer.
02:06:00 Am I right?
02:06:01 We work in a gym.
02:06:03 I just have to come to work, which I guess I will do now.
02:06:07 Oh, interesting.
02:06:08 Yeah, you have to change everything about yourself.
02:06:10 Yeah.
02:06:11 And then you'll be able to dunk.
02:06:12 Okay.
02:06:13 And then both of my car key batteries are dead.
02:06:17 Dude, you can ... Give me your car keys.
02:06:20 Do you have a thing?
02:06:22 You can change it.
02:06:23 Do you have the battery?
02:06:25 I mean, it's probably one that you can buy easily, or they probably have it in the control
02:06:29 room.
02:06:30 That'd be clutch.
02:06:31 I also don't know how to open the thing.
02:06:33 So how have you been getting into your car?
02:06:35 Key?
02:06:36 The key, but it's a process.
02:06:37 Yeah, it's like an annoying ... You can hook it up to a potato too, I think.
02:06:44 Oh, damn.
02:06:46 You drive a Rolls Royce?
02:06:48 That's crazy.
02:06:49 Let's see.
02:06:50 I like the pussy wagon key chain you got on there.
02:06:55 It's this thing, Hank.
02:06:56 You just got to get this open.
02:06:59 You know that it's sitting right here.
02:07:02 So you get that open, then you can ... What if I hit the panic button?
02:07:09 If you get that open, it's like a watch battery.
02:07:12 Easy.
02:07:13 All right, FireFrest solved.
02:07:16 Yeah.
02:07:17 So no FireFrest for me this week.
02:07:18 Oh, wow.
02:07:19 Okay.
02:07:20 I didn't know you were driving a Rolls Royce.
02:07:21 Fucking stunting on us.
02:07:22 Cheese steak.
02:07:23 PFT.
02:07:24 I got a couple of FireFests.
02:07:29 The first one is the Rick Pitino stalker's back.
02:07:32 Oh, yeah.
02:07:34 So we talked about coach, and apparently he lit a fire under his player's ass.
02:07:39 So Rick Pitino, I think he's a great coach, and I think he didn't say anything wrong.
02:07:43 We should all chill out.
02:07:44 Yeah, he texted me twice.
02:07:46 And he also gave me a date.
02:07:47 We need to respect Rick Pitino, as we always have.
02:07:49 I like Rick Pitino.
02:07:50 I want him on the podcast.
02:07:51 St. John's, if you're listening, please have Rick Pitino come on the podcast.
02:07:56 We'd love to have him come on the podcast.
02:07:58 Yeah, come on.
02:07:59 Okay.
02:08:00 See, you're doing it again.
02:08:01 No, come write another text.
02:08:02 I'm going to get another text.
02:08:03 Come write on this podcast.
02:08:04 This guy's been texting me for like 10 years.
02:08:06 I hope he does.
02:08:07 Well, yeah, he's texting me, not you.
02:08:10 We might get killed.
02:08:11 We might get killed.
02:08:12 I should just give him your number.
02:08:13 Yeah.
02:08:14 No, don't do that.
02:08:15 I tracked him down in Final Four.
02:08:16 Yeah, that's right.
02:08:17 Tell that story.
02:08:18 Yeah.
02:08:19 I don't know if he showed.
02:08:20 Yeah, he didn't.
02:08:21 No, he showed.
02:08:22 But then he was like, "You sent your goons."
02:08:23 I don't know.
02:08:24 So maybe he did show.
02:08:25 Max does give goon vibes.
02:08:26 Yeah.
02:08:27 He is our goon.
02:08:28 Wearing a track suit.
02:08:29 Either way, I like Rick Pitino.
02:08:30 Listen, we make jokes about everyone on this podcast, including ourselves.
02:08:33 So Rick Pitino, please come on the pod.
02:08:36 It's actually my lifelong dream to last 13 seconds.
02:08:39 That's stolen valor of Firefest, because he's texting me.
02:08:43 Well, he was texting you about something that I said on the pod.
02:08:47 He then followed up and texted me more pointedly.
02:08:50 And then my other Firefest is, we've got March Madness coming up, Final Four, which also
02:08:57 means it's time for- By the way, the soccer, let's just ... Great
02:09:01 AWL.
02:09:02 Yeah.
02:09:03 It's every show.
02:09:04 Yeah, shout out to him.
02:09:05 I just want to at least give him some credit for that.
02:09:06 Yeah, he loves the program.
02:09:07 Thank you for that.
02:09:08 Yes, thank you.
02:09:09 Because it's almost instant when we say something.
02:09:10 So I want to say, I know you want us dead, I think, but do appreciate you subscribing
02:09:17 and listening to every episode.
02:09:18 Yes.
02:09:19 My other Firefest is March Madness coming up, Final Four is coming up, which also means
02:09:23 the Hong Kong Sevens tournament's coming up, the rugby tournament in Hong Kong that I went
02:09:28 to a few years ago.
02:09:29 Donnie's been texting me pretty constantly being like, "Hey, are you going to come?"
02:09:34 And then now recently pivoted to, "Well, who from Barstool should come with me if I'm going
02:09:39 to go over there?"
02:09:40 It's the last year that they're going to have the South Stand set up, the last year where
02:09:43 it's going to be ... It's probably going to continue to be a zoo.
02:09:46 And it's the exact weekend of the Final Four.
02:09:49 We'll do one Zoom on Sunday.
02:09:51 And it was ... Listen, it was a lot of fun last time.
02:09:54 And the first thing I said when I came back is it was so much fun.
02:09:57 In fact, it was so much fun that I'm never going to do it again in my life.
02:10:02 I've been starting to think about doing it.
02:10:04 Why don't you just go?
02:10:05 Because last time you went, when did you leave?
02:10:08 I left, I think it was early on the Thursday before the Final Four.
02:10:12 Because when you fly there, it takes 18 hours.
02:10:15 And then when you're there, it's an exact 12 hour time difference.
02:10:19 So when you guys are taping the show at night, it'll probably be 11 midnight.
02:10:23 Yeah, that's tough.
02:10:25 And then that would be 11 o'clock in the morning.
02:10:29 And also now that I'm putting these two stories together, that'd be interesting that you somehow
02:10:34 are out of the country when we're in a very public spot at the Final Four where Rick Pitino
02:10:38 Stocker could come get us.
02:10:39 Huh.
02:10:40 It would be interesting.
02:10:41 Howard.
02:10:42 Howard.
02:10:43 These are unrelated instances.
02:10:44 But also you could do another segment with an athlete who tries to take my job in case
02:10:50 I die on the trip.
02:10:51 George Kittle did that last time.
02:10:53 Yeah, we did.
02:10:54 We could.
02:10:55 I'll just say, George, you're a great guy.
02:10:56 Stick to football.
02:10:57 I don't think you can fill these shoes.
02:11:00 But I'm thinking about it.
02:11:01 I will make a decision by the end of the week whether or not I'm going to go.
02:11:03 Max is shaking his head being like, don't go.
02:11:06 You have no idea how fun it was, Max.
02:11:08 Yeah.
02:11:09 We just got ablos.
02:11:10 We got ablos.
02:11:13 What ablos?
02:11:14 We just got ablos.
02:11:17 Sounds like you're a hater.
02:11:18 No.
02:11:19 Sounds like you don't want to see me live my best life.
02:11:21 No.
02:11:22 No.
02:11:23 We got ablos.
02:11:24 I'll make my final decision by tomorrow whether or not I'm going.
02:11:26 If I don't go, I feel like Minty would be a great person to go over there with Donnie.
02:11:30 Oh, man.
02:11:32 I don't know.
02:11:33 He might be like Elvis.
02:11:34 He might not be able to go out of the country.
02:11:36 That's true.
02:11:37 Minty and Hong Kong would be special, though.
02:11:38 Yeah, it would.
02:11:39 That is a good replacement.
02:11:40 Very good replacement.
02:11:42 You'll have him wear a wig and sunglasses.
02:11:45 He does Pat Mahomes.
02:11:46 Maybe he can be PFT.
02:11:47 Yeah.
02:11:48 He could easily do it.
02:11:49 Yeah, but I do want to go.
02:11:52 I've been feeling the itch recently.
02:11:54 That's such a fun weekend.
02:11:55 A lot of rugby.
02:11:57 It's just a blast.
02:11:58 Molly itch?
02:11:59 I know.
02:12:00 If I go-
02:12:01 Big time Molly itch.
02:12:02 If I go, I'm not going to take MDMA again.
02:12:03 That's a lie.
02:12:04 I said that's the first and only time I do that.
02:12:06 That's a lie.
02:12:07 That's like saying Hank's going to dunk.
02:12:08 I'm not a drug guy.
02:12:09 Even though when I did go to Qatar with Donnie, I ended up doing acid.
02:12:13 But I don't want to do drugs.
02:12:15 The reason that I want to go over there has nothing to do with drugs.
02:12:19 It's just such a fun time.
02:12:21 Okay, my fire fest is the Rick Pitino stalkers back texting me.
02:12:26 Also, I've actually started a real diet.
02:12:30 Chef Donnie's cooking for me.
02:12:31 I'm a little grumpy, but I'll be okay.
02:12:33 Yeah, you are.
02:12:34 No, I'm not.
02:12:35 I was a test.
02:12:36 You're the grumpy one because you're sick.
02:12:37 You've been sick all week, right in our face.
02:12:40 You got the Scottsdale flu.
02:12:42 No, my real fire fest is no.
02:12:44 Actually, I'm not going to say it because then Hank will use it against me.
02:12:48 See what you've done to this podcast.
02:12:50 Hank.
02:12:51 Yeah, I enjoyed vacation.
02:12:53 Okay, this always happens.
02:12:55 I did get a little.
02:12:56 I got the itch though at the end.
02:12:58 And also, I'm a big believer.
02:13:00 I remember even when I was like a kid and I would go on vacation and I would be like,
02:13:05 now I can watch all the MTV I want.
02:13:07 Yeah.
02:13:08 And my mom be like, it's vacation.
02:13:10 Go outside.
02:13:11 It's like, it's my vacation.
02:13:12 Yeah, I should get to do what I want.
02:13:14 So when people are like, stop tweeting about Mincy doing the what was he on?
02:13:20 He was on the crowd surfing or Sydney Sweeney's boobs.
02:13:24 It's my vacation.
02:13:25 I can tweet about whatever I want.
02:13:26 If it's Sydney Sweeney's boobs, that's okay.
02:13:28 You should tweet more about the Mountain West on vacation if you really cared about.
02:13:31 Yeah, that's true.
02:13:32 But I'm a big believer in if your vacation, like if I could do my real vacation, it would
02:13:36 just be sitting in a room with a bunch of TVs and gambling on every game.
02:13:41 That's my real vacation.
02:13:42 That's your job though.
02:13:43 But it would be nice if I could do it just unfettered.
02:13:45 Yeah.
02:13:46 Yeah.
02:13:47 Vacation is really nice.
02:13:48 It's really nice.
02:13:49 I'm not addicted though.
02:13:50 So don't get some thoughts Hank.
02:13:53 I ain't addicted.
02:13:54 It was fine.
02:13:57 Jake.
02:14:00 Remember when I interviewed with you guys, I sent you my website.
02:14:04 Yeah.
02:14:05 I haven't touched it in years and I just got a $325 bill for an auto renewal.
02:14:09 Oh, so then renew it.
02:14:11 What is your website?
02:14:12 It was an auto renewal.
02:14:13 It was an auto renewal.
02:14:14 It was at jakemarsh.com.
02:14:15 Jake W. Marsh.
02:14:17 It was just a, it was, I made it when I was graduating college just as like a real slash
02:14:22 resume one stop shop, but I haven't touched it in a long time and I, and I just spent
02:14:29 another $325 unknowingly.
02:14:31 Yeah.
02:14:32 You got to update this website.
02:14:34 I know it's so old.
02:14:35 You can make it flash.
02:14:36 We're on it.
02:14:37 Yeah.
02:14:38 You added, you added this part.
02:14:39 Yeah, but I haven't touched it since like COVID.
02:14:42 I think the last time I had it when I was, was, uh, maybe this right.
02:14:50 20, 2021.
02:14:51 I know that we do some advertising with some of these companies, but like this, we should
02:14:55 just be like, Hey, do you, do you want to last longer in bed?
02:14:59 Just go read Jake Marsh's website.
02:15:01 Like you'll have no problem.
02:15:04 Like 90% of the work on there is my college work.
02:15:09 Just I'm either going to deactivate it.
02:15:11 If you want to fuck like a porn star, go to jakewmarsh.com.
02:15:16 Jake is a diehard New York Yankees fan and loves rooting for his hometown teams in Miami
02:15:20 as well.
02:15:21 Some of Jake's hobbies include playing golf, tennis, and relaxing with his family.
02:15:26 You like chilling with a fam?
02:15:27 Yeah.
02:15:28 Prior to that, Jake spent two seasons as a play by play broadcaster with the university
02:15:32 of Vermont men's basketball team.
02:15:34 His other interests are petting dogs and eating pussy.
02:15:38 Yup.
02:15:39 Word for word.
02:15:40 Huh?
02:15:41 But yeah, you should have a positions tab on here.
02:15:44 Yeah.
02:15:45 Like, like just, yeah, just have one tab on the website.
02:15:47 Be the Kama Sutra.
02:15:48 Yeah, no, it should be, it should be an auto generator where you can hit like hit for a
02:15:52 new position and it just pops up a new position.
02:15:55 I forgot one fire fest.
02:15:56 I have one other fire fest.
02:15:58 My last fire fest is I have a really good friend and he's a crazy, crazy sports fan
02:16:05 and uh, he's in for just an absolute ass kicking on Saturday and I'm worried about him.
02:16:10 Who are, who's his team playing?
02:16:12 I think they're playing.
02:16:14 Is it you?
02:16:15 Is it going to be nationally televised?
02:16:16 Yeah, I think they're playing.
02:16:17 This is a no lose situation.
02:16:18 What do you mean?
02:16:19 It sounds like you guys could lose by a lot.
02:16:21 Yes.
02:16:22 And if you lose by a lot, then you lose by a lot.
02:16:23 It's a no win situation.
02:16:24 No, there's a win.
02:16:25 There's a situation.
02:16:26 So how is it a no lose?
02:16:28 It's, it's an unlawful because exactly what you're saying.
02:16:31 Everyone's expecting Villanova to lose by 30 if they lose by 30 it's just, Oh no, that
02:16:36 will be fun.
02:16:37 You know, if you get your ass kicked and it's such a prominent game, but that that's what
02:16:40 everyone's expecting.
02:16:41 You understand that this is the weekend where the nation turns its eyes to college basketball
02:16:44 favorites.
02:16:45 I don't know.
02:16:46 I could be 15 point favorites.
02:16:48 It'll be 3013.
02:16:51 Let's take a look real quick.
02:16:53 Let's take a look real quick.
02:16:54 Oh, 10, I think 82 72.
02:16:58 Yeah, it's going to be a bad, I actually kind of want to see him.
02:17:02 Max is like, I, you want to live stream it?
02:17:05 72 60.
02:17:06 So what time is it at seven o'clock Saturday night?
02:17:09 Oh, perfect.
02:17:10 Live streaming hours.
02:17:11 I'll come in and live stream with you.
02:17:12 It's going to be an absolute blowout.
02:17:14 Is it gonna be a must win for you?
02:17:16 What must win?
02:17:18 No.
02:17:19 Like this, this does absolutely nothing to the committee.
02:17:22 It's only positive for the committee.
02:17:23 All right.
02:17:24 So just, um, who were you going to go out Saturday night?
02:17:27 Watch it somewhere.
02:17:28 Yes.
02:17:29 Okay, perfect.
02:17:30 Okay.
02:17:31 This is like the Phillies all over again.
02:17:34 What?
02:17:35 I'm just going to pay everyone that you are friends with to make sure they send me all
02:17:39 the clips.
02:17:40 Actually might try to track max down.
02:17:41 Yeah.
02:17:42 Just stay across the bar incognito.
02:17:44 But like I'm, I'm going in expecting them to lose by a lot, but in the off chance that
02:17:50 they like how much, how much of the public money you think is going to be on Yukon on
02:17:54 Saturday?
02:17:55 Oh, you're right.
02:17:56 You're right.
02:17:57 But there is a lose.
02:17:58 And also if you lose, yes, correct.
02:18:01 But imagine if Hurley loses after posting, after posting that meme.
02:18:07 Oh, you'd give them the business.
02:18:08 I mean that would be, that would be an all time bad tweet.
02:18:11 I'm also excited for the college game day signs that you guys told.
02:18:15 Yeah.
02:18:16 Yeah.
02:18:17 Max two sodas.
02:18:18 We need a lot of max two sodas.
02:18:19 None of them.
02:18:20 I mean, nobody bring that to the college game day.
02:18:22 Max, Max, I got your back.
02:18:23 If anybody brings a max had two sodas signed to college game day, I'm going to have to
02:18:30 retweet it so that nobody else does it and be like, this person's the only one that can
02:18:33 do it.
02:18:35 Anyone else that does it is not.
02:18:36 I'll go one up BFT because I don't want these max has two sodas signs anywhere.
02:18:40 If anyone does a max has two sodas sign, um, I at least be a man about it and put your
02:18:48 Venmo on it.
02:18:49 Mm hmm.
02:18:50 So that I could send you some money.
02:18:52 Yeah.
02:18:53 I want some accountability.
02:18:54 I want to know, and you know what?
02:18:59 Heaven forbid, heaven forbid somebody dresses up like max and then shows up.
02:19:04 It's also bullshit.
02:19:05 And then shows up with a foam dome with two sodas on either side.
02:19:11 Here's what I'm going to do.
02:19:12 Uh, I, I don't want to see any of these max has two soda signs, but I will pick in obviously,
02:19:19 you know, because it's the two sodas.
02:19:20 I'll pick two of my favorite max has two soda signs and those people will win a prize on
02:19:25 Venmo.
02:19:28 I can't wait for that.
02:19:30 I can't wait for that.
02:19:32 Max has two so it was maybe pictures of sad max included in it.
02:19:36 So it's best sign wins.
02:19:38 Max has two sodas.
02:19:40 Uh, okay.
02:19:41 Numbers eight, 20, 30, 18.
02:19:48 Hmm.
02:19:50 Said 40 Hank said 40.
02:19:54 I vert 77, 77 pug 99 pull 99.
02:20:02 What was pug talk the other day that ruled people just talking about pugs.
02:20:06 It's a pug's new podcast.
02:20:08 Pug what was pug talk?
02:20:09 Did you get in on it?
02:20:10 They're asking about pug talk.
02:20:11 Shame.
02:20:12 What do you got?
02:20:14 It was trending on Twitter, so I had to get in on it.
02:20:18 Pug who said that?
02:20:19 Who said that?
02:20:20 Who said it?
02:20:21 You didn't sign off.
02:20:22 Say pug.
02:20:23 Pug, you're our new big dom.
02:20:24 Tell him that.
02:20:25 Yeah.
02:20:26 I said that.
02:20:27 You're our new big dom.
02:20:28 We were looking for a big dom on the show and I said, and we were trying to figure it
02:20:37 out and I said, it's gotta be you.
02:20:39 You're our big dom.
02:20:41 That's fine with me pug.
02:20:42 Perfect.
02:20:43 You don't think my only issue with pug is like if you look at pugs in the wild like
02:20:48 that, that live in a family, um, no house that has one pug only has one pug.
02:20:54 Right.
02:20:55 You know, they always have, oh, they come up.
02:20:56 Yeah.
02:20:57 They're like cats.
02:20:58 They're the cats of dogs.
02:20:59 You have to have multiple pugs.
02:21:00 Yeah.
02:21:01 Uh, shame.
02:21:02 What's your number?
02:21:03 21.
02:21:04 All right.
02:21:05 Everyone say their numbers again.
02:21:06 Real quick.
02:21:07 20, 40, 18, 77, 99 pug three.
02:21:08 This one's here to go.
02:21:09 80.
02:21:14 All right.
02:21:24 See everyone on Monday.
02:21:25 Love you guys.
02:21:26 Bye.
02:21:27 Bye.
02:21:27 Bye.
02:21:28 Bye.
02:21:28 Bye.
02:21:33 Bye.
02:21:38 Bye.
