'Bigas biglang mahal' is inevitable, Marcos says

High prices of rice in the Philippines is inevitable, President Marcos said. Marcos stated this, responding to a question of a letter sender if “BBM” stands for "Bigas Biglang Mahal.”  The President explained that it is unavoidable to see a rise in the prices of rice in the country, considering the increasing prices of oil that impacts cost production. 00:16 Because, we cannot avoid seeing that the price of rice in the Philippines is really increasing.

00:26 But if we look at it, even the countries that are exporting,

00:32 their prices are increasing, almost equal to the prices here in the Philippines.

00:38 In Vietnam, where they export millions and millions of tons every year.

00:42 In Thailand, they are also exporting millions and millions of tons.

00:46 I studied and looked at it, are their prices there in their countries low?

00:51 No. Because the problem is not here in the Philippines.

00:56 What is happening here is that we are experiencing an increase in the price of corn.

01:02 When the price of corn increases, the price of urea increases.

01:04 Everything, including water, needs to be fixed.

01:08 So, all these external shocks are really affecting us.

01:13 We are doing everything to ensure that our production is sufficient,

01:18 that we are not importing anymore, that the inputs for our farmers are reduced,

01:24 and that we stabilize the price of rice.
