00:00 Well, you know, there are some projects that you're a part of and they have a weight and
00:07 importance on their own and this story is one of those.
00:10 It's a really inspiring film and to know that people are going to enjoy that and feel moved
00:15 by what this film is saying, it's exciting and I've been waiting a long time for it.
00:19 So I'm looking forward to this week.
00:22 So this script found me after Reacher season one had aired.
00:25 The weekend after it aired, I had a stack of films to look at and this was one of them
00:29 and I was so moved.
00:32 I begged to be a part of it.
00:33 I actually begged.
00:35 And John Gunn, the writer/director who did such a beautiful job, told me to my face I
00:40 was definitely not the right guy for this.
00:45 The real Ed Schmidt is a little more gaunt and frail and he looks like he eats a few
00:53 less cheeseburgers than I eat.
00:55 So I've got kids and I know the distance that I would go to save them and keep them from
01:02 suffering the way that his kids did.
01:04 So that's what I felt like I could offer and luckily he let me on the project.
01:12 Yeah this was a hard fought battle to get in this one.
01:16 Films like this too, with a couple young daughters.
01:22 Ed had two young girls and having young child actors could really make or break a film.
01:27 Emily and Skywalker, the girls that played my daughters in the film, were stellar.
01:32 Just like stellar.
01:33 I can't wait for people to see what they did but they really elevated this film.
01:37 Nancy Travis plays my mom.
01:39 It's just beautiful work.
01:41 Drew Powell, the past.
01:42 Everybody was just phenomenal.
01:43 I mean across the board.
01:44 Of course Hilary Swank does it again.
01:48 It's just great to be a part of this cast.
01:51 We live in a very divisive time.
01:53 Here's the thing.
01:55 We get messaging from a lot of different sources that tell us to pick a monster and to gang
02:02 up and fight that monster.
02:04 We're very tribal in that way.
02:07 This film sends a completely different message.
02:11 Not only are the broken toys the ones that can really rescue us but they're the ones
02:17 who are most in need of saving.
02:20 It's just regular everyday people like you and I that can, through a little bit of love
02:26 and effort, can really help change people's lives.
02:29 We need that.
02:30 We need to be reminded of that.
