00:00 Because horror films are filled with raupy special effects, awful acting, absurd premises,
00:04 and atrocious dialogue, a lot of scary B-movies leave viewers laughing rather than screaming.
00:12 As a result, it's not too surprising then that cinema is filled with spoofs
00:16 revolving around slashers, monsters, aliens, and even sometimes sharks.
00:22 Consequently, there are plenty of parodies that probably escape the attention of even
00:26 the most devoted movie buffs. So with that in mind, I'm Josh from What Culture Horror
00:31 and these are 10 Horror Movie Parodies You've Never Seen.
00:34 Number 10, Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday The 13th.
00:38 Because Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday The 13th came out three months after Scary Movie,
00:43 it was seen as a cheap rip-off that was rushed out of production. Ironically though,
00:47 Shriek actually went into production before Scary Movie did, but since it had the misfortune of
00:53 being released second, it gave people the erroneous impression that it was riding the
00:57 tails of Scary Movie's success. Now, even though Shriek has the same structure as Scary Movie,
01:03 its style is far zanier and not really for the better. I mean, this time around,
01:09 the mass killer is building a nuclear bomb. The school principal is played by Coolio,
01:14 and one of the characters has a twin cousin, which is like, that's kind of a joke because,
01:21 you know, twins can't be... you know. Now, Shriek isn't by any stretch of the
01:27 imagination a great comedy and some of the jokes, in fact most of the jokes, have aged like four
01:33 month old milk, but there are a lot of people who do prefer it out there over Scary Movie.
01:38 Number 9, Beastadare Beastadare, which spoofs the stop-motion special Here Comes Peter Cottontail,
01:44 is one of those movies that makes you think, "How did this project get made?" The film itself
01:51 centers around a giant man-eating rabbit who rampages through a town on Easter, hence the
01:56 title. Because the mayor refuses to act as a nod to Jaws, it's up to an idiotic dog catcher and a
02:02 failed actress to save the day. Although the budget was only $150,000, the special effects
02:09 are so unpolished that it looks like the film cost ten times less. Almost every scene revolving
02:15 around decapitation or dismemberment has distracting green screen effects, and also
02:20 the beast buddy itself looks more like a rat than a rabbit.
02:24 Number 8, Fido Fido takes place in an alternate reality where
02:27 the government has regulated zombies, forcing them to perform menial jobs in society. Even though the
02:33 zombies themselves are viewed as pets, young lad Timmy sees Fido as a friend and tries to bond with
02:40 him, despite the obvious danger the reanimated creature poses. Despite the fact that Fido could
02:46 have been just a silly comedy, it does successfully juggle complex themes about conformity, consumerism
02:52 and maintaining the stares quo. As an added bonus, it is also very, very funny. The Timmy's
02:58 trap down a well scene is ridiculous and it is hilarious.
03:02 Number 7, Killer Piñata. Killer Piñata is unsurprisingly about a killer piñata. After the
03:09 titular character, if you can call them a character, watches a family smash his kind to pieces
03:14 for their own amusement, the piñata decides to kill them all to avoid suffering the same fate.
03:20 The film was made for £3,000 at 8 days and it absolutely shows. Even though it's intentionally
03:27 dumb and everything plays out with tongue firmly in cheek, there isn't a single memorable line or
03:32 creative kill. Most of the film revolves around extraneous characters just spouting generic
03:37 dialogue, solely, presumably, to fill up the runtime.
03:41 Number 6, Ice Spiders. Ice Spiders revolves around a group of winter olympic contenders
03:46 staying at a ski resort but uh oh, their plans are jeopardised when mutant spiders break out
03:52 of a nearby experimental facility and go on a killing spree. Because of how preposterous this
03:58 premise is, you might assume that all the characters in Ice Spiders would be equally
04:02 over the top. However, the cast all deliver their lines so seriously, you wonder if they
04:07 thought they were making a genuine horror flick rather than a spoof. And this makes every scene
04:12 feel jarring since these actors speak so matter-of-factly while being attacked by the
04:18 fakest looking spiders in movie history. I mean, the special effects for the spiders and eight
04:23 legged freaks weren't great but they look photorealistic compared to the CGI here.
04:28 These arachnids are so badly rendered that they look like they were taken from a Playstation 1
04:33 game. Number 5, Camp Death 3 in 2D. Camp Death 3, which is not a sequel by the way,
04:40 is a satire of the Friday the 13th franchise just like so many of these movies are and it
04:46 follows the same basic plot of people going to a camp and getting killed by a killer.
04:51 Unlike some spoofs, Camp Death 3 is one of those films that doesn't even try to be clever and like
04:58 all unoriginal parodies, there's even a lightsaber battle thrown in there for good measure.
05:03 This is one of those movies where the best joke in the whole thing is in the title. It seems almost
05:08 designed to give you a chuckle while you're searching through Amazon Prime at 2am one
05:12 Saturday night and hey, maybe that's a business model that's worked for it. Number 4, The Revenant
05:18 2009. Because spoofs tend to mock specific films, they usually come across as derivative by nature.
05:25 I mean, this is why parodies like Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans and Date Movie are so uncreative
05:30 with their comedy. But there are some spoofs that avoid these tropes and come up with a genuinely
05:35 original idea. The Revenant, not the Leonardo DiCaprio movie, is a 2009 comedy that revolves
05:42 around a veteran called Bart who teams up with his buddy Joey to clean up the city. However,
05:47 Bart has a slight problem. He's dead. After being reanimated as a corpse, he has to drink blood to
05:53 stop himself from decomposing. Even though he's articulate and intelligent, Joey's friends are
05:59 certain that Bart is a mindless brain-eating zombie and so, they urge Joey to kill him. Even
06:06 though the whole thing could've fallen apart if it was too silly, The Revenant has a good balance
06:10 of being aware of how ridiculous it is while still taking itself somewhat seriously. Number 3,
06:17 Comedy of Terrors. Because Scary Movie is responsible for popularizing horror comedies,
06:22 it's easy to forget the subgenre has existed for decades. And back in 1963, there was an
06:28 underrated spoof called the Comedy of Terrors which revolved around a pair of funeral directors
06:33 who are forced to kill customers to keep their failing business afloat. Even better,
06:38 the film boasts an all-star cast including Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Basil Rathbone,
06:43 and Boris Karloff. Although the Comedy of Terrors is beautifully staged and every scene is rich with
06:49 tension, it's the actors' stellar performances that stand out. The ensemble may be renowned for
06:55 their dramatic roles, but they all get the chance to showcase their comedy chops here. Still,
07:00 the Comedy of Terrors has become somewhat of a cult classic over the years, but it isn't really
07:04 as well-known as it should be. Number 2, Llamageddon. Llamageddon is about a killer
07:10 llama from space and based on that premise alone, you should probably be able to tell whether this
07:15 spoof will be your cup of bovril or not. Since the characters are stereotyped horny teenagers,
07:21 they can be pretty grating a lot of time in this flick, but the more you hit these guys,
07:26 the more satisfying it is when they're incinerated and reduced to a bloody puddle.
07:31 Even though there's bound to be many viewers who enjoy the intentionally bad special effects and
07:35 crass humour, it is a pity that nothing particularly creative is done with the llama
07:40 in question. In every scene revolving around the animal, it doesn't really do anything except fire
07:46 lasers from its eyes, which admittedly now I'm thinking about it, is something we all did want
07:52 to see, right? Considering the trailer calls Llamageddon the greatest movie in the world and
07:57 brags that it was rejected for Sundance and won the most fake awards of 2018, you should have a
08:03 good idea of what you're getting yourself into. Number 1, The Final Girls. Probably the most
08:08 well-known on this list, but also certainly the best. The Final Girls centres on a young woman
08:13 called Max, processing the death of her mother Nancy, a legendary scream queen from the 1980s.
08:20 So when she and her friends get sucked into Nancy's most famous slasher feature,
08:24 Max's group find themselves being hunted by the in-movie killer. Even though the best slashers
08:31 are rife with cliches, every one of them works in this movie's advantage. Max's gang keep pointing
08:37 out tropes like how blood looks like corn syrup or how the characters are always murdered after
08:42 having sex. And yeah, it's not exactly the first movie to implement this shtick, but luckily,
08:48 The Final Girls never relies on these gags and instead focuses on the chemistry between the
08:53 ensemble and hilarious one-liners. Because The Final Girls pokes fun at how cheesy the dialogue
08:59 is and how every character acts like an idiot, you should probably enjoy it, even if you're
09:04 not usually a fan of the genre. So that's our list. It was certainly a mixed bag, some good,
09:10 some truly dreadful. But I wanna know what you guys think down in the comments below.
09:14 Have you seen any of these parody movies? And are there any noteworthy ones I missed off here?
09:20 While you're down there as well, could you please give us a like, share, subscribe,
