00:00 "I did not kill him."
00:01 "That's not the point."
00:04 Sandra Huler stars in Anatomy of a Fall as a woman who is accused of murdering her husband
00:10 after he mysteriously falls to his death. The film is nominated for five Oscars this year,
00:15 including a Best Actress nod for Huler and one for Best Picture. Plus, Justine Trie,
00:19 who co-wrote and directed the movie, is the sole woman nominated for Best Director this year.
00:24 Ahead of the ceremony, Huler and Trie spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about how they're
00:27 feeling heading into the big night as first-time Oscar nominees.
00:31 "There will be no food, that's for you to know."
00:33 "I didn't know this."
00:34 "There's no food, so we expect to eat before it."
00:37 "Honestly, just before coming here, we were like, 'Okay, it's really unbelievable,
00:41 and I think we are so grateful for everything.' And so happy, and we try to enjoy every minute
00:47 of all these things. The story that I adore is nothing was made in this film to be in this
00:57 situation. And I love so much this story. Sometimes in life you want so badly something,
01:02 you know, 'I want to make a masterpiece, I want the best actress, I want the best.' And of course,
01:09 it's always a disaster, you know, because you cannot have this kind of impulsive way of doing
01:15 things. But all these things, just a cherry on the cake, and we are so happy."
01:20 "I mean, it will be a wonderful evening, all in all. So I will just also try to enjoy it and be
01:26 there in the moment and not too much in my head, I think."
01:30 During the film's Oscar campaign, a shining star has emerged in Messi, the dog who plays Snoop,
01:35 in the film. The pair opened up about the massive amount of love Messi has received
01:39 so far this awards season.
01:40 "It's incredible."
01:42 "It's just totally crazy. I think, no, the only thing is, I try to film him really like a
01:53 character and not like an accessory of my lead character. And I think he has a gaze, he has a
02:02 really a soul in the movie. So maybe it's because of this that people could see him like a real
02:13 actor."
02:14 "Yeah, and they do, obviously."
02:17 "Yeah, yeah."
02:17 "And I think, you know, to me, as long as it's fun for the dog, it's fun for us, so."
02:23 They also spoke about the film's ending and how the audience might feel when the credits roll.
02:28 "It's a lot of information, so I expect to be in the brain of the spectator for a few hours,
02:38 you know?"
02:40 "The music and everything that happens with the dog, to me, it's really emotional. It touches
02:44 me in a place that is, yeah, I can't really describe it. But most of the time I had the
02:49 feeling, or when I saw the film for the first time, that I want to be close to people who are
02:54 meaningful in my life. So maybe that's the effect."
