On tonight's show, we take a look back at the football fixtures as a promotion-chasing Chatham Town took on Lewes away from home and Bartholomew is joined by unbeaten boxing prospect Robert Caswell ahead of his first title fight.

00:00 Hello and welcome along to Invicta Sport, the only show on your TV dedicated to wrapping
00:21 up all of Kent's sporting action.
00:24 I'm Bartholomew Hall and here's what to expect on this Monday 19th February.
00:29 Chats on tour, second place, Towne Pursue, three points at Lewis.
00:34 The fight for her life.
00:36 Lordswood's charity boxing returns for young girls treatment.
00:41 And back to the ring, Chatham boxer faces first title fight after injury return.
00:49 But before we get to any of that we must of course start with a round up of all the headlines.
00:53 And some of Kent's cricket squad are set to train in India ahead of the start of this
00:56 summer's season.
00:57 Whilst the bulk of the first team have been playing cricket overseas this off-season,
01:02 a small group of the county's remaining players will be making their way to Mumbai this week.
01:06 Head coach Matt Walker says it's an opportunity to have a ten-day spin camp where the team
01:11 can work on improving in that department.
01:14 Meanwhile England opener Zach Crawley's 11 runs before being bowled out LBW in England's
01:19 second innings was a performance to forget as England lost the third test in their series
01:23 against India at the weekend.
01:25 The series now stands 2-1 to the hosts.
01:29 Moving on, there's just one week to go until Maidstone United's historic fifth round FA
01:34 Cup tie against Coventry City.
01:37 Following a letter written by the team boss, Georgie Lacobie, to the National League, organisers
01:41 and both teams have agreed to postpone their league game against Weymouth, which was due
01:46 to take place just two days before the FA Cup fixture.
01:49 Writing on X, the club has welcomed the decision, noting these FA Cup runs don't come along
01:54 all that often.
01:55 It comes after the fixture at the weekend against Taunton was also postponed due to
01:59 a waterlogged pitch.
02:01 Lots of prep time for the Stones.
02:04 Now South American forward Jorge Otado's future at Gillingham is in doubt after Steven Clements
02:09 says they're waiting to see if he needs surgery or not.
02:12 After his loan transfer was announced in the January window, the Watford striker has played
02:16 three times for Gillingham, coming on in all of those as a substitute.
02:20 He's already been commended for his flair on the pitch by fans.
02:24 However, after taking some robust challenges in those games, it's been revealed Otado has
02:28 picked up cartilage damage.
02:30 As things stand, he's due to return to his parent club permanently at the end of the
02:34 season.
02:35 We'll of course have a round-up of the football results in just a moment's time, but first
02:38 a look at the hockey results.
02:40 It was a weekend of back-to-back draws for Holcombe women, where they missed an opportunity
02:44 to go three points clear of promotion rivals Barnes.
02:48 Deanna Ritchie gave Holcombe the lead four minutes before half-time on Saturday against
02:52 fifth-place Slough away from home, before the hosts equalised through Laura Bailey.
02:57 On Sunday, however, it was a much different story.
02:59 A late, late comeback saw the Hulks come back from two goals down to salvage a draw against
03:04 league leaders Surbiton.
03:05 It leaves Holcombe in second place in the women's Division One South table, ten points
03:10 off the top spot.
03:12 Rugby now, and after a string of stirring performances, Tunbridge Juddian suffered derby
03:16 disappointment when they lost 24-22 at Sevenoaks in the National League Two East.
03:22 The Oaks fought well to equalise going into the break at 17-all, and after a strong showing
03:28 in towards the closing stages, the hosts were able to scramble their final attack into touch,
03:34 leaving them with the points.
03:35 Meanwhile, Canterbury couldn't unseat title-chasing Barnes, and lost 29-20 after the visiting
03:41 side took control in the final quarter and shut down the contest.
03:44 The Juddians are now left in sixth, Canterbury seventh, Sevenoaks ninth.
03:49 Now time for the football results, where Chatham Town continued on their promotion charge from
03:54 the Idsmean Premier with a visit to Lewes in East Sussex.
03:57 Meanwhile the Gilles were seeking three points on a trip to Newpont in League Two, and Dill
04:02 Town's, Kent's only FA Vars winning side took the fight to Bridgewater in the competition's
04:07 fifth round.
04:08 Here's James Hill.
04:09 This week's football round-up takes us to the stands of Lewes FC.
04:13 As a travelling promotion-chasing, Chatham Town looked to get their third league win
04:17 in five.
04:18 Some good link-up play on the left led to a lofted cross into the box, but it was headed
04:22 wide, but lo and behold, Chatham scored in the 84th minute.
04:26 Some wide play from Jamie Yeeler saw him run down the wing before cutting the ball back,
04:30 setting up Jordie Robbins for a shot, taking the deflection, the ball bolted into the back
04:35 of the net, and after that, the floodgates quickly opened.
04:38 In the fourth minute of added time, a good run from Chatham's 16 saw a cynical crunch
04:43 and slide, Tostle's 16 to the ground, stopping the play in its tracks.
04:48 Jamie Yeeler stepped up to the spot.
04:57 A calm, composed finish looked to tie the knot, but in the seventh minute of added time,
05:01 Chatham struck again.
05:03 An out-swinging corner found its way to shifting Jamie Yeeler as he managed to head the ball
05:07 in for his second of the day and his 14th of the season.
05:12 The final score on a door's Lewis FC 0, Chatham Town 3.
05:18 Elsewhere in the Isthmian Premier, Margate got their first league win since November,
05:23 winning 3-2 against Canvey Island, as Folkestone lost on the road to Whitehall.
05:28 As for the table, Chatham keep the pressure on in second, iron-up promotion as Folkestone
05:32 and Margate take 17th and 18th.
05:35 Now for League 2, a close fixture with Newport County ended in a 1-0 loss for the Gilles.
05:41 A wonder goal from Newport forward Will Evans split the difference.
05:44 Here's what Stephen Clements had to say.
05:46 "It was going to be a tight game.
05:47 As I say, they're a very physical team.
05:50 They put the ball on you and you have to be up for them.
05:55 We dealt with that, we dealt with it really well.
05:58 But we just, in the 60th minute, whenever it was, they got down our right-hand side
06:03 probably a little bit too easy, easy enough I like, and obviously delivered the ball into
06:08 the box where the boys delivered a sidewinder volley from nearly the edge of the box and
06:14 going in our top corner.
06:15 You get beaten by a goal like that, sometimes you just have to accept it."
06:19 Blues sit in 11th with 47 points.
06:22 One point separates seven teams and tomorrow they host first place Stockport County.
06:27 The Vanarama National League now.
06:30 Ebbs Fleet United were ruthless against Eastleigh, the 3-0 win moves them closer to safety as
06:35 they take up 21st.
06:37 As for the National League South, Dartford won 2-1 over fellow Kent outfit Dover Athletic
06:43 and Maidstone's fixture was postponed.
06:46 Maidstone are still close to the top, sitting in fourth as Dover and Dartford battle it
06:51 out in the lower ranks.
06:53 And finally, a nod to Deel Town as their 6-5 win on penalties sees them through the fifth
06:58 round of the FA Vars Trophy.
07:01 Deel are the only Kent side to ever win the Vars Trophy back in the year 2000.
07:06 Is a second title on the cards a whole generation later?
07:09 Well that's it from me this week, I'm James So and that was your Football Roundup.
07:15 Well a massive congratulations to Deel, we'll be making sure to follow their run as it progresses
07:20 into the quarterfinals.
07:21 Now Kent charity Street Soccer Foundation which aims to turn around the lives of young
07:26 people through the power of football says it spent more than 720 hours of coaching,
07:31 mentoring and providing physical activity over the past year.
07:35 In the same period, 235 young people were taken through their street soccer academy.
07:40 Well we spoke to the founder and CEO of the charity, former Gillingham player Keith Mabbott
07:45 who talked us through the pride he felt from the report's findings.
07:47 Yeah to see the numbers, I mean that's purely come out of outputs from what the programme
07:52 is achieving for these young lives that are giving it a chance.
07:55 So I guess it's a testimony to the work that's gone on all over the country throughout 2023
08:02 and it's a measure in which really underpins the justification of why we do what we do.
08:06 We've been going now for eight years can you believe and you know I think every year we're
08:11 making iterations to the programme responsive to the feedback we get.
08:16 So we have massive on collaboration, we're very much partnership led as an organisation,
08:20 the clubs that we work with across the country, these are club community organisations.
08:25 So they're very versed in terms of supporting their community but when we create this programme
08:31 it's one in which we're fusing that feedback to create almost like a best version, best
08:34 practice offer.
08:37 And certainly kind of post pandemic though I say, you know we know the vulnerability
08:41 around many young people now so we're trying to kind of tailor the provision depending
08:47 on the community.
08:49 Moving on, Kent Charity Boxing is back.
08:52 It's the first show of the year and it was on Saturday with money being raised this time
08:56 for a little girl called Leilani.
08:58 She has a rare heart and lung condition and her parents hope to raise enough money to
09:02 fly her to America where she'll receive the life that she deserves.
09:07 Mahima Abedin went along to find out.
09:10 One ring, several boxing bouts but all for the same cause, a fight for Leilani.
09:17 For its first show of the year Kent Charity Boxing raised money for three year old Leilani
09:21 who has a rare heart and lung condition.
09:24 Diagnosed at birth, her condition affects both her eating and breathing and while her
09:29 parents have been fundraising for the surgery she needs, they still need thousands more.
09:34 So this is Leilani, she's three years old, obviously it's our little world, we've got
09:40 other children as well but she's had so many complications since birth so yeah we're doing
09:45 all we can to try and support her.
09:48 We're hoping to fill this place out this evening so yeah fantastic that everyone's getting
09:52 behind us, supporting from raising, doing everything they can to help Leilani.
09:56 It's all to get her out to America to do a specialist surgery to help treat her and give
10:03 her the life that any child should need and should have really.
10:08 The KCB team hosts shows every two months to raise money for charity and offer eight
10:13 weeks of free training at the Kent Gloves Boxing Gym in Gillingham.
10:17 If someone needs a bit more help, so if we do one show and they still need to carry on
10:23 raising money, we'll carry on raising money until they don't need no more and then we'll
10:29 move on to somebody else local.
10:31 That's what I've scaled this to be, just to help local people that need help and they
10:37 actually get the money.
10:38 Jason is among those who are fighting at the Lordswood Leisure Centre for Leilani.
10:43 He's been training with KCB for just over five weeks.
10:47 So this is my first charity event with KCB.
10:52 It's for a great cause.
10:53 Not only is it for a great cause, everyone has a good night out as well and I just look
10:59 forward to putting on a good show for them.
11:01 So far the fights today have been absolutely thrilling to watch but the people here aren't
11:06 only showing support to those taking part but they're also showing support for Leilani.
11:12 And to get Leilani to America for her surgery, she needs an additional £80,000.
11:18 To help continue to show its support, KCB hope to host its next show in April to raise
11:23 more funds.
11:24 Mahima Abedin for KMTV in Chatham.
11:29 Well we wish little Leilani all the best in getting the help she needs to get that treatment
11:34 over in America.
11:35 Now we've reached half time which means it is time for a break.
11:37 Coming up, more boxing as we will be talking to the unbeaten Robert Caswell whose chances
11:43 at his first title were scuppered last October by an unfortunate sparring injury.
11:48 That match has been rescheduled for this Saturday and we'll be picking his mind apart as he
11:52 goes into that fight week.
11:53 See you in just a few moments.

15:12 Hello and welcome back to Invicta Sport
15:14 live on KMTV. Now it's time
15:16 to meet our next guest, a returnee
15:18 to the Invicta Sport sofa and a
15:20 returnee to the ring. Unbeaten young boxer
15:22 Robert Caswell has had his first
15:24 chance at a title scuppered
15:26 when he suffered a sparring injury just
15:28 days before the fight was due to take place
15:30 last October. Now back up
15:32 and running he's returning to the ring to take on
15:34 that same rival Michael Webber-Cain
15:36 this coming Saturday. But before we
15:38 speak to him, let's take a look back at how
15:40 he got here.
15:42 [cheering]
15:44 Robert Caswell's momentum is
15:46 electric. Bursting onto
15:48 the scene it's been win after
15:50 win for the 22 year old
15:52 boxer from Chatham. From his
15:54 40 to 36 decision
15:56 debut win at Maidstone Leisure Centre
15:58 to his first knockout at York
16:00 Hall. He follows in the footsteps
16:02 of some of the UK's greatest.
16:04 Caswell's career
16:06 has quickly pointed towards the prospect
16:08 of a title fight and he was soon
16:10 paired up with fellow unbeaten young
16:12 prospect Michael Webber-Cain
16:14 with the winner poised to take the
16:16 vacant Southern Area super featherweight
16:18 belt. Robert
16:20 spoke to us when the pairing was first announced.
16:22 The Southern Area title
16:24 is good, it's a big fight
16:26 for me but I want to become British Champion so I
16:28 know I need to get through this level
16:30 to get where I want to be at so this is just the
16:32 first step on the ladder to
16:34 where I want to be so hopefully
16:36 all goes well which it will. October the 14th
16:38 I'll win the Southern Area title and then
16:40 on to bigger and better things.
16:42 But just a month later
16:44 the fight was called off after
16:46 Caswell suffered a perforated eardrum
16:48 putting Robert's chance
16:50 at his first belt into jeopardy.
16:52 He told Kent Online
16:54 he was absolutely gutted.
16:56 It was one of his best training camps
16:58 so far and that everything had gone
17:00 so well. Despite
17:02 suggestion from the opposition camp he'd
17:04 been trying to dodge the fight,
17:06 Caswell says he's determined to get his
17:08 hand on the belt and has stopped at nothing
17:10 to see his recovery through.
17:12 Now firmly back on his feet
17:14 and the fight rearranged for the 24th
17:16 of February, York Hall
17:18 is set to host another enthralling
17:20 night of British boxing as
17:22 this rivalry grows ever more.
17:24 And Rob joins me in the studio now
17:26 thank you very much for coming back onto
17:28 the sofa to talk about the
17:30 of course the rearranged fight. First
17:32 of all, talk to me about the training
17:34 camp because it must have been
17:36 quite a blow when you found out just a
17:38 couple of days before that
17:40 injury led to the cancellation of
17:42 the fight. Yeah definitely everything
17:44 went to plan and all the
17:46 training was pretty much done. I just had my
17:48 last spar to do. I literally had like a couple
17:50 more training sessions left.
17:52 Last spar, the tenth round of the
17:54 final round of sparring, I got
17:56 hit with a shot that I've been hit
17:58 with worse, let's just say that.
18:00 I felt my eardrum burst straight away
18:02 and I knew I've perforated my
18:04 eardrum straight away.
18:06 It was a gutter really and then
18:08 yeah, it was just about recovering
18:10 and getting the fight straight back on as soon
18:12 as we can. No of course and
18:14 I mean since that was
18:16 rearranged have you had to kind of take
18:18 a step back when you're in training
18:20 or has it just been all guns blazing to make sure
18:22 you're there? So the first I think it was
18:24 five, six weeks I had to wait for the eardrum to
18:26 heal which was annoying so I could
18:28 still train, that's the annoying thing about it. I was
18:30 injured but I could still train and do everything
18:32 apart from spar. So I
18:34 kept fit, kept in shape
18:36 and then after five, six weeks when I got the
18:38 all clear that my eardrum was fully healed
18:40 I could go back to sparring
18:42 and yeah I knew February 24th
18:44 was rescheduled so I had
18:46 that in the back of my mind straight away. It was
18:48 just more of a waiting game really. Yeah of course
18:50 I mean we kind of see this quite often
18:52 in boxing don't we? I mean I'm thinking of the
18:54 most recent one Fury's fight with Usyk
18:56 cancelled so close to when
18:58 it was going to happen. How do you strike that
19:00 balance between looking after yourself but also
19:02 being as fit as possible? Yeah it's hard
19:04 because you've got to do the sparring
19:06 to get ready for the fight so you are putting yourself
19:08 in way of danger
19:10 if that makes sense. So you could get cut,
19:12 you could perforate your eardrum, you could
19:14 break a hand, it's just part and
19:16 parcel of boxing and unfortunately
19:18 it's very common.
19:20 Fight week now, how are you feeling ahead of
19:22 York Hall this Saturday? Yeah I'm buzzing, I can't
19:24 wait. It feels like it's been a long time in the making
19:26 really so yeah I can't wait to
19:28 get in there on Saturday and win
19:30 the first title of many. And what does this week
19:32 look like for you then because I assume you've finished sparring
19:34 now? Yeah all finished sparring really, it's just
19:36 like a bit of a taper week so you're
19:38 just doing little bits of pads, keeping sharp
19:40 and just getting the final bit of
19:42 weight off ahead of the weigh in Friday
19:44 and then yeah, refuel, rehydrate
19:46 and get ready for Saturday. I suppose
19:48 one of the fairly frustrating things for you
19:50 having to wait is this man
19:52 Michael Webber-Cain has been there
19:54 lurking in your mind or in the
19:56 distance for you without having that
19:58 kind of change. Do you look at much of
20:00 what he's done in the past when you're preparing
20:02 for your fight? You watch little bits
20:04 of his fights and see what he does good
20:06 and what he does bad, what habits he has
20:08 but you sort of leave that to
20:10 your coach, he'll have a look and say
20:12 look this is what we need to do
20:14 this is what he doesn't do great at and stuff
20:16 like that so I'm quite laid
20:18 back, I just let
20:20 things happen, let the coach see what
20:22 he thinks and then go from there really.
20:24 Because there's a slight rivalry between
20:26 you two isn't there? I mean we've seen kind of
20:28 previous fights between you
20:30 were fighting on similar nights weren't you and
20:32 lots of noise between the fans, do you
20:34 buy into any of that at all? Not really
20:36 because once we're in there it's just me and him at the
20:38 end of the day so yeah there's been a bit of
20:40 back and forth, people saying my injury
20:42 wasn't real and stuff like that
20:44 but people got to think at the end of the day
20:46 why would I reschedule a fight
20:48 pull out of a fight and then reschedule it
20:50 straight away so yeah I just don't
20:52 really listen to none of that and sadly not
20:54 we get to settle it. Of course well
20:56 best of luck for that, let's talk about your career more
20:58 widely because it's been brilliant so far I mean
21:00 eight wins, eight matches
21:02 eight wins, really
21:04 looking good isn't it? Yeah definitely yeah
21:06 eight fights, two stoppages
21:08 yeah and I've been
21:10 I feel like I've been getting better each fight so
21:12 the next step was
21:14 a title fight, a step up in opposition
21:16 and that's what it is, 11
21:18 against an 11-0 unbeaten
21:20 fighter for the Southern Era title so yeah I couldn't ask
21:22 for much more. And we can see some of the clips of you
21:24 fighting now, do you tend to watch yourself back
21:26 much when you're in training?
21:28 Not when I'm in training, after I
21:30 fight I watch it quite a lot yeah
21:32 but I'm quite a tough critic
21:34 I'm not really happy with myself
21:36 Well okay, well we won't show it on the script for much longer
21:38 then that's fine. One of the
21:40 sort of groups that is supporting you the most is
21:42 Chatham Town, obviously you're from the area
21:44 what's that been like with the support from
21:46 the club? Yeah it's good you know like they're doing
21:48 really good in the league, I think they're
21:50 in the playoff position so
21:52 yeah it's good, I'm on the way up
21:54 the football club are on the way up and then
21:56 hopefully we can bring back, bring boxing
21:58 to hometown
22:00 to Chatham, to the football club in the near
22:02 future so that is the plan. Yeah of course
22:04 I mean we've seen similar things, we were talking just
22:06 before about Sam Noakes, obviously him winning
22:08 his title just a few weeks ago when he
22:10 was training, similar to you, he was wearing his
22:12 Town's team, Maidstone United
22:14 with their success, we've seen quite a few
22:16 names pop up from the area at the moment
22:18 Moses Atalma, another one from
22:20 Chatham, have you found that as
22:22 you've been sort of rising the ranks yourself that
22:24 there is quite a few coming out of Kent? Yeah we all
22:26 know each other really, we all grew up together so
22:28 me, Moses, his brother Carol
22:30 we was all from a little club in St Mary's
22:32 in Chatham, we all grew up together
22:34 and it's good to see that we've all carried
22:36 on and we're all professionals
22:38 now and we're all doing good things so they're on the big
22:40 TV shows where hopefully if I win
22:42 this I'll get more opportunities on TV
22:44 and get to that level
22:46 so yeah I'm not far off
22:48 being where they are. And what is
22:50 the ultimate goal for you then?
22:52 British Champion is the plan
22:54 I've always wanted to be British Champion since
22:56 I started boxing, since I was a kid
22:58 it's a belt that looks great
23:00 and everyone wants one
23:02 so yeah British Champion, so if I can win
23:04 Saturday, which I will, and then yeah
23:06 English, British, that's the goal
23:08 I like it, I like it, confident
23:10 brilliant, thank you so much for joining us Rob, cheers
23:12 best of luck for this weekend
23:14 Cheers. Now before we go it's time to remind you
23:16 that you can keep up to date with all the latest sports
23:18 news, interviews and features from here
23:20 on Invicta Sport by heading to our website
23:22 kmtv.co.uk and clicking
23:24 on that sports tab there
23:26 you'll see videos like this one
23:28 about a school hockey team from Sevenoaks
23:30 who became not only county champions
23:32 but national champions too
23:34 Winning a championship
23:36 isn't an easy task, but for the school
23:38 girls here at St. Michael's
23:40 they seem to come in threes
23:42 First, back in October the school's under
23:44 13's became Kent champions
23:46 when they beat Cranbrook school
23:48 5-1. Weeks later
23:50 and the under 11 squad took on the task
23:52 of retaining their IAPS
23:54 National Girls Hockey Championship
23:56 over in Somerset, which they
23:58 duly won. But that's not all
24:00 as just three days later
24:02 that same under 11 squad kept
24:04 the winning streak going with a trip to
24:06 Canterbury where they fought off Sevenoaks
24:08 prep 2-0 to become
24:10 county champions. Helping
24:12 them reach their win, Captain Elizabeth
24:14 scored more than 10
24:16 goals across both competitions
24:18 whilst the defensive brilliance of Alex
24:20 in goal saw them keep their opponents
24:22 at bay. It was unbelievable
24:24 how we've gone from our
24:26 first pool match to
24:28 win the finals
24:30 We also played a team that
24:32 was like
24:34 it's ground built and it's
24:36 not even, probably
24:38 takes like 15 minutes to get there
24:40 so we travelled all that way and played a team
24:42 that's not very far away
24:44 As for the county champion
24:46 winners, the under 13 squad, their
24:48 win meant their last competition
24:50 as a full group. We move schools
24:52 next year so we won't be in the same
24:54 team but we probably still will play hockey
24:56 I think it's really nice that our last proper
24:58 match together and our last tournament
25:00 together is a win so I think that's
25:02 a really good thing to remember as well
25:04 Hockey I think is a really
25:06 up and coming sport, I think it's getting more
25:08 and more exposure, obviously with the success of
25:10 our international teams as well, it's just
25:12 becoming a high profile sport so
25:14 I think there's a lot of
25:16 growth for hockey and a lot of kids haven't
25:18 done it before and they're kind of like
25:20 hang on a minute, this is quite fun
25:22 But how can one school reach
25:24 such success? Headmaster
25:26 Nick Pears believes it all comes back to
25:28 the passion of the children themselves
25:30 Children come running to school and not want to
25:32 go home at the end of the day here at St Michael's
25:34 we know that they love coming to school and a big part
25:36 of life at school for us is sport
25:38 you know, sports, music, drama, all of
25:40 those things, the rounded education that they
25:42 get here, so for the girls to come in and
25:44 just give 100% in their sports
25:46 every morning, they come in, I mean look at it, it's raining
25:48 they don't care, they just want to be out playing
25:50 and enjoying it. So from county
25:52 champions to the top of the
25:54 national pile, the three
25:56 pronged success of St Michael's hockey
25:58 department is sure to live in the top
26:00 shelf of memories for years to come
