A man who beat his dog with a broom - leading to the animal needing his leg amputating - has been jailed for two years after being prosecuted by the RSPCA.
Brian Hughes, of Lister Avenue, Bradford, was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court after being found guilty at a trial in January 2024.
During sentencing, the judge told Hughes he was “not fit to be near animals”, and gave him an immediate prison sentence and a 15-year ban on keeping animals.
The court heard that the dog - a German shepherd-type called Caesar - was taken into a vets by a member of the public on 8 September 2022, after he was found tied to a fence.
