00:02 A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man who was assaulted near a bar in Derbyshire.
00:08 David Thompson was rushed to hospital having suffered serious head injuries following an incident on Elmton Road in Creswell near to Hours Bar at about 1.30am on January 27th.
00:19 The 50 year old from Creswell had remained in hospital in a critical condition, but sadly passed away yesterday.
00:26 Detectives are now investigating the incident as murder and enquiries are ongoing.
00:30 Detective Inspector Maria Please, the senior investigating officer said,
00:35 "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Thompson at this difficult time.
00:39 They are being supported by family liaison officers as we continue our investigation into the events which led up to his death.
00:46 It is vital that we fully understand what happened that evening and the timeline to the assault,
00:51 which appeared to have left David with injuries he wasn't able to recover from and tragically proved fatal."
00:57 DI Police added, "I would urge anyone with information about this incident, no matter how small or trivial you think it may be, to get in touch with us."
