Ohio State's Jacy Sheldon and Taiyier Parks review a big third quarter defense propelling them past Nebraska.
Transcript
00:00 >> That's how you're on the dub chain tonight.
00:02 You talk about the performance going up against another strong team in the paint.
00:05 >> I was just trying to change my mindset since I've been sitting out the last
00:11 couple of games.
00:13 I just wanted to go in and give good energy and to support my team.
00:17 >> And tonight you played a 40 minute performance against Nebraska.
00:22 Can you just walk through how you're feeling out there defensively and
00:25 all the turnovers you're able to force?
00:27 >> Yeah, I mean, it was just fun.
00:29 I think for us the backbone of our game is our press and our defense.
00:32 And when it's flowing, it leads to offense.
00:34 And it was a lot of fun tonight.
00:35 It was a lot of fun to see a lot of people thrive in that press.
00:38 And a lot of our bigs, I mean, they have really good post players and
00:42 our bigs really showed out tonight.
00:43 And made it really hard for them to score down there and rebound, I think.
00:48 I mean, T grabbed a time, Rebecca grabbed a time, but
00:50 rebounding definitely helped us win the game too.
00:52 >> And going into the break, what are you all looking forward to with the time off?
00:56 And then also improving as the rest of the season comes?
01:00 >> Getting better, that's our goal all the time.
01:02 And we're gonna, but we'll take tomorrow off and then get back in here and
01:06 get better.
01:06 >> How do you make sure that you maintain this momentum that you all have built when
01:10 you do have a week off though?
01:13 >> It's part of kind of our culture and what we've created here.
01:16 I think we don't really pay attention to any outside noise that's going on.
01:20 Our focus is getting better and that happens in practice for us.
01:23 So as well as we are playing, I think we wanna play even better.
01:26 So that's what we'll keep working towards.
01:28 >> That's a great start.
01:29 Was that an emphasis coming into this game?
01:32 >> It always is for us.
01:33 We always wanna, I think actually both teams started slow.
01:37 Neither of us could make a shot for a while.
01:39 But yeah, you always wanna start off tough.
01:41 And then once we got the lead, I think keeping the lead and
01:44 kinda going even further was key for us.
01:47 But that's always the goal.
01:48 >> Jacey, defensively you guys are able to force three,
01:52 I think, ten second violations on Nebraska.
01:55 How satisfying is it for you guys to force that?
01:57 And I guess, what does it say about the defense and
01:59 your guys' performance there that you're able to do that so consistently?
02:02 >> It's awesome.
02:03 It's just fun.
02:04 And for how hard we work, I think it's also kind of a relief when that happens.
02:08 But it's exciting.
02:09 I think it gets us going and our energy kinda builds off of that.
02:12 So it's definitely something we look forward to and like to celebrate together.
02:16 >> Jacey, eight days now.
02:18 It's kind of an odd long break this time of the season.
02:21 What are you hoping to get done over the next week, week and a half?
02:23 >> Yeah, we'll take some time off tomorrow.
02:26 Geez, get our bodies right and then come back in here and continue to work on.
02:29 We still have a lot to work on, a lot to get better at.
02:31 So that'll be our focus these next eight days.
02:34 >> Do you get a chance to sort of sit back and think, wow,
02:36 we won a bunch of games in a row.
02:37 >> [LAUGH] >> I mean, I know you're still game by
02:39 game, but do you get a chance to enjoy that a little bit?
02:43 >> To be honest, I don't even know.
02:44 Someone just told us how many games we won in a row.
02:46 We really don't focus on that.
02:48 And I think that's big for us cuz I think we kinda just stay hungry for more and
02:52 wanna accomplish more.
02:54 >> And how are you able to do that to kind of block the noise out and
02:57 keep everything in the group?
02:58 Celeste, after Michigan State talked about how closely knit everybody is and
03:02 everyone kinda protects each other, how do you do that?
03:04 >> I think just having this tight knit group and
03:07 having so many people who wanna win.
03:10 Everybody here wants to win.
03:11 Everybody wants to see everyone do well.
03:13 I think that's rare in a group and especially a group this talented.
03:16 So it's exciting.
03:18 >> What do you think that both of you specifically can improve on going to
03:21 Penn State next week, but also for the rest of the season?
03:22 >> That's good.
03:24 >> [LAUGH] >> Just staying consistent.
03:27 I know in my past I've had trouble with that.
03:29 So just moving forward, being more consistent, and helping produce for
03:33 the team.
03:34 >> I would agree.
03:35 I'd say the same thing.
03:36 Physically and mentally, I think we've been pretty good.
03:39 But I think keeping that focus with those eight days off will be big for us.
03:44 >> You mentioned the chance to get some rest now.
03:47 Is this the point in the season where you guys start to feel kind of the wear and
03:49 tear of a season or a game?
03:52 >> Especially this.
03:53 >> I was gonna say, we're all- >> Yeah.
03:56 >> To be honest, I don't think so.
03:59 >> Well, we're in the training room every day.
04:00 >> Yeah, we're- >> We're taking care of ourselves.
04:02 >> Yeah. >> To make sure everything,
04:04 we're all good.
04:05 >> Yeah. >> Pretty much.
04:06 >> Your coach was saying that he was challenging you all at the end of the game
04:10 to make sure that you finish the game strong.
04:13 If you come into the game late,
04:14 how do you make sure that you do maintain the same level of intensity that's been
04:18 played all game?
04:21 >> I try not to overthink it, cuz when you overthink it, you tend to mess it up.
04:24 So just staying in the moment, one possession at a time, and
04:29 just having high energy and effort is always important.
04:32 So that's how I look at it.
04:33 [BLANK_AUDIO]
04:35 >> Everybody good?
