Whether you have romantic plans with your partner or are getting up to some 'Galentine's' activities - this special day is full of people acknowledging their love for others.

However, there are plenty of people who choose not to celebrate the holiday, or perhaps don't have someone to share it with.

00:00 Valentine's Day, the annual holiday celebrating love, is being commemorated by couples and
00:05 friends worldwide today on the 14th of February.
00:08 Whether you have romantic plans with your partner or are getting up to some Galentine's
00:12 activities, this special day is full of people acknowledging their love for others.
00:16 However, there are plenty of people who choose not to celebrate the holiday or perhaps don't
00:21 have someone to share it with.
00:23 We asked people in Manchester if Valentine's Day is overrated and if they even still celebrate
00:28 it at all.
00:29 I love it.
00:30 I love it.
00:31 Amazing.
00:32 What do you love about it?
00:33 Well, it's just like a day about love.
00:36 I just like, I do share affection a lot with my friends and family and I do like to treat
00:42 them so like today when I go back to my flat I've got them like little goodies just to
00:46 be like, happy Galentine's.
00:47 Make it special, make a day, yeah.
00:50 I love it.
00:51 I think it's nice.
00:52 It's happy, isn't it?
00:53 And yeah, why not?
00:54 Because there's so many miserable things about it so sometimes it's nice to just, yeah, go
00:59 for something.
01:00 You don't have to spend loads, I know some people spend a lot of money, maybe that's
01:02 what you're asking, but you don't have to do.
01:04 You can just do something nice.
01:06 Or a little rose or a little, I quite like it if someone left some flowers on my doorstep.
01:12 As I go to uni it's hot mess at the club probably but tonight we are doing matching pyjamas,
01:20 making our own pizza and a movie, probably watch Love Island.
01:26 And you've got a date at the weekend haven't you for a Valentine's date but it's in London
01:31 at the weekend so she's got best of both worlds.
01:34 Do you think the Valentine's Day is overhyped?
01:37 Yeah, so we don't really tend to celebrate it, all we do is, so we've been a couple of
01:42 ten years and ever since the beginning we just go on holiday don't we?
01:45 Yeah, I mean not every year but yeah we tend to, yeah we don't tend to like mark it as
01:52 a day really.
01:53 We might occasionally say Happy Valentine's Day but really it's not a standout date in
01:58 the calendar.
01:59 Not like Pancake Day, Pancake Day is the highest celebration for us.
02:02 Yes.
02:03 Why?
02:04 I suppose I've been married 30 years so it's, yeah, it's not, I think it's probably for
02:12 the younger generation, it's not something I get involved in.
02:16 Will you be celebrating?
02:18 No.
02:19 No, not at all.
02:21 When me and my husband first started dating and before that yeah you perhaps get together
02:26 with that special person in your life but no, not at the moment, I've got too much on.
02:31 I think it's overhyped in terms of cards and gifts, yes, but I think the tradition of it
02:37 is quite nice.
02:38 We're actually going to the theatre.
02:40 Oh, fantastic, so you are celebrating it this year?
02:43 Yes, yes and I usually make the cards, in fact I've made Galentine's cards for all my
02:47 female friends which is about 20.
