00:00 The Rock reportedly conceded on his WrestleMania match.
00:04 A scary and serious injury took place at last night's NXT tapings.
00:08 How it will affect Elimination Chamber, which apparently is already going through changes.
00:13 Listen up Slapnuts, this is the WrestleTalk News.
00:23 After a tense week of speculation and reports, WWE officially confirmed that the main event
00:28 of WrestleMania 40 will be Cody Rhodes looking to finish the story and face Roman Reigns
00:34 for the Universal Championship.
00:36 And along the way The Rock, who less than a week earlier looked like he was going to
00:39 face Roman, turned heel and aligned himself with Roman.
00:42 The story has been a huge success for WWE, with the ratings for this past Smackdown - which
00:47 did not feature Roman, Rock or Cody - did a monster number of 2.5 million viewers, the
00:53 highest in six months.
00:56 While Raw was down this week compared to the previous two, it was still a big number for
01:00 the show, pulling in 1.75 million viewers.
01:03 What's interesting about that number?
01:05 If you're someone like me who finds this interesting, sound off in the comments if
01:08 you're like me and find this interesting.
01:09 We should form a club.
01:10 The viewership for the show rose once Cody Rhodes came out.
01:14 The first hour drew 1.79 million viewers, then rose to 1.85 million for its second hour.
01:20 Once Cody left, it dropped off to 1.6 million.
01:23 Which is also why the online chatter about what was the plan, what wasn't the plan,
01:28 what was a work, what wasn't a work has been so fascinating for people who like their
01:33 inside baseball.
01:34 People like me, are you like me?
01:36 Sound off in the comments, I want to form a club.
01:38 There have been conflicting reports on whether this has been a work from the start, with
01:41 Fightful Select even reporting that if this was a work from the start, then top talent
01:45 like Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins and CM Punk were not clued in.
01:50 And now we have a new bit of reporting to put into this speculation stew to add a little
01:55 bit more spice to the proceedings.
01:57 And perhaps a pinch of salt.
01:59 Aaron Varville of SC Scoops reported on the 7th of February, the day before the press
02:03 conference in Las Vegas, that someone from WWE Creative had told him that the plan was
02:08 still to do Rock vs. Roman despite the crowd reactions towards The Rock on that previous
02:15 Raw.
02:16 He has since followed up on that report to say, "I was able to confirm that Rock's
02:19 original plan was to have a match with Roman.
02:22 It wasn't the situation we have now.
02:25 After all the negative reaction, Rock conceded it should be Roman vs. Cody."
02:31 This ties into that Fightful Select report that came out following that Smackdown episode
02:35 where Cody sidestepped for The Rock - that Rocky was not only pushing for the Roman match
02:40 to save WrestleMania, but that he should also win that match and win the title.
02:46 Dave Meltzer had reported leading up to that Smackdown episode that Rock really wanted
02:51 to do that Roman match at Mania, but had people trying to convince him to do it on a different
02:56 date, possibly in Saudi Arabia.
02:58 He's also reported that The Rock joining the TKO board of directors came with the understanding
03:04 that he would main event this year's WrestleMania.
03:08 With all of the back and forth, toing and froing, what do you make of all of this?
03:12 Do you think it was a work from the start, or do you think plans just changed following
03:18 the fan backlash?
03:19 Let me know in the comments down below.
03:21 And while you're making that comment, why not check out this clip from the most recent
03:24 episode of Survival Series where we tried to name every TNA World Champion.
03:29 And yes, I had a lot of fun with this one.
03:32 Name me a TNA Heavyweight Champion.
03:50 Part of the reason that WrestleMania plans have been so up in the air as of late is because
04:06 of a couple of injuries within WWE.
04:09 Firstly Seth Rollins got injured during his World Heavyweight Championship match against
04:12 Jinder Mahal, and then CM Punk, who was originally scheduled to face Rollins at WrestleMania,
04:17 got injured during the Royal Rumble.
04:19 And now, we sadly have to add Shotzi to that injured list.
04:23 Last night NXT also taped next week's episode of the show, to be aired on the 20th of February.
04:29 The episode that aired last night revealed that one of the matches taking place next
04:32 week would be Smackdown's Shotzi challenging Lyra Valkyria for the NXT Women's Championship.
04:38 However, during that match, Shotzi hurt her knee taking a fall to the outside when doing
04:42 a spot to send the show to a commercial break - an injury so bad that the match had to be
04:47 stopped and Shotzi was helped to the back.
04:50 Corey Brennan of Fightful Select reports, Shotzi was not able to place weight on her
04:54 injured knee and was forced to hop to the back with assistance from WWE's medical
04:58 team.
04:59 He adds that Shotzi was in a large amount of pain, and backstage staff were very concerned.
05:04 He also adds that while NXT has had a track record of doing "worked" injuries in the
05:09 past, this is not one of them.
05:11 One source told Corey Brennan, "The injury was serious."
05:15 There is reportedly no heat on Valkyria for the injury, which has been described as a
05:19 "freak accident".
05:20 Instead, General Manager Ava announced there would be an open challenge for the title,
05:24 which was answered by Lash Legend.
05:26 Fightful Select writes, "Several sources in NXT commended Lyra, Legend and Ava's
05:31 ability to adapt to what was a difficult situation for all involved.
05:35 Our best goes out to Shotzi and we here at WrestleTalk wish her a speedy recovery."
05:39 It will mean that this Smackdown will need to change, as Shotzi was advertised to be
05:44 facing Tiffany Stratton for a spot in the Elimination Chamber in Perth.
05:48 While it was reported and expected that Stratton was set to win that spot, she will need a
05:52 new opponent for the show.
05:54 And that's not the only plan that is changing for Elimination Chamber.
05:58 On this past Monday's Raw, it was announced that there would be a Last Chance Battle Royal
06:01 featuring the losers of previous qualifying matches, along with the likes of Indi Hartwell,
06:06 Candice LeRae and Chelsea Green.
06:08 As we discussed on yesterday's WrestleTalk News, PWInsider had reported that the winner
06:12 of the Battle Royal would be Jade Cargill, who made her impressive WWE debut in this
06:17 year's Royal Rumble.
06:18 However PWInsider are now reporting that those plans have since changed, and Cargill might
06:24 not be in the Battle Royal and no longer in the Elimination Chamber.
06:28 They add, however, that those plans could change.
06:32 So just so we're all clear, PWInsider are reporting that Jade Cargill was going to be
06:36 in the Battle Royal and win it to be in the Elimination Chamber, but those plans have
06:40 changed and she's not going to be in the Battle Royal or the Elimination Chamber.
06:43 However those plans could change and she could be in the Battle Royal and in the Elimination
06:47 Chamber.
06:48 It's really quite simple.
06:49 Headline: NXT Tag Titles Change
06:50 The episode of NXT that aired last night did see the tag titles change hands, as the Wolf
06:53 Dogs of Baron Corbin and Braun Breaker beat The Family to win the belt.
06:57 Breaker pinstacked for the finish, following the pair winning the Dusty Classic to get
07:01 a shot at the titles.
07:02 Breaker has also been teased for a main roster call-up, having appeared on both Raw and Smackdown
07:07 since his Royal Rumble appearance.
07:08 Over to the drama in TNA now, and let's bring everyone up to speed in case you missed
07:12 all of this.
07:13 Scott D'Amour has been credited as the man who "saved" TNA Wrestling, not only pushing
07:18 the company through the pandemic and turbulent years of uncertainty, but also spearheading
07:23 the rebranding of Impact Wrestling back to the TNA name.
07:27 Their first PPV of the year, Hard To Kill, was a great success for TNA, with Dave Meltzer
07:32 reporting that it had a lot more new eyes on it when comparing those who bought Hard
07:36 To Kill to those who bought the previous PPV, Bound For Glory.
07:39 Which is why it was such a huge surprise that Anthem, the company that owns TNA, fired Scott
07:45 D'Amour last week.
07:47 Reportedly TNA talent were caught off guard by this news when it was told to them on a
07:51 Zoom call, and voiced their displeasure as D'Amour was very well liked.
07:55 House of Wrestling reported that there was a second call headed up by Tommy Dreamer and
07:58 Gail Kim to address any concerns that talent had.
08:02 But while they were surprised, Fightful Select are now reporting that D'Amour's firing
08:06 has been in the works for the last month.
08:09 They report that Anthem wanted to present this as a mutual parting of ways, but D'Amour
08:14 did not want to leave TNA.
08:16 Once it became clear that he was going to be removed as the president of TNA, Fightful
08:20 Select report D'Amour attempted to buy TNA from Anthem, but its offer was rejected.
08:26 A previous report said that D'Amour wanted Anthem to put more money into TNA to up its
08:31 production values.
08:32 However, Fightful Select are reporting that they've been told by those within Anthem
08:36 that was only actually related to software upgrades and nothing else.
08:40 They add that the schedule for TNA remained the same, and confirm that Anthem are keen
08:44 on cutting the costs off the show when compared to the previous year.
08:48 Fightful Select add, "talent we've heard from have been overwhelmed and unhappy about
08:53 the move away from D'Amour as many were loyal to him."
08:57 And while things aren't so rosy for TNA, everything is coming up Milhouse for AEW.
09:01 Last week the rating for AEW Dynamite was considered a disappointment.
09:05 While it was only down a couple of percent from the previous week, it was a stacked show
09:09 with Hangman vs. Swerve 3, Tony Khan's big announcement and Sting challenging for the
09:13 Tag Team Championships.
09:15 But while that number was a disappointment, Rampage and Collision did great numbers with
09:21 very little buzz or promotion.
09:23 Firstly, Rampage's number from this past Friday was 456,000 viewers, up nearly 50%
09:30 from the previous week and the highest the show has had since April of last year.
09:35 The show peaked in the opening quarter which drew nearly 500,000 viewers for the trios
09:39 matchup Orange Cassidy, Trent and Rocky Romero taking on the Undisputed Kingdom.
09:43 Not only was that a great number for Rampage, it was almost the same number as Collision
09:48 which drew 491,000 viewers from this past weekend, peaking at 538,000 viewers for its
09:54 second hour which saw Adam Copeland have an in-ring promo with Daniel Garcia, as well
09:59 as the start of Mark Briscoe vs. Brodie King.
10:01 That overall viewership is not just up 22% from the previous week, it's the highest
10:06 number for the show since October 2023.
10:09 But that's enough from me, or is it?
10:11 Because you can go and watch me name loads of TNA World Champions in the latest Survival
10:16 Series.
