00:03 Council bosses have pressed pause on proposals to half their spending on beds and other support

00:08 services for some of the city's homeless. The budget cut had sparked an outcry from

00:12 charities and housing providers who warned it could leave people to die on Newcastle

00:16 streets. The council now says that it will carry out a review of the provision to seek

00:20 best value for the council.

00:22 Next, staff at Northumbria University have been warned of job losses as the institution's

00:27 staffing budget faces being cut by £12.5m. Markets for recruiting students from overseas

00:34 has been blamed by some for the issue, as well as pressures caused by inflation.

00:39 Finally, hundreds of North East residents gathered to celebrate Chinese New Year at

00:44 Newcastle's parade on Sunday. Food stalls and cellars were set up around Bath Lane and

00:49 the celebration saw a dragon parade with drummers and dancers.
