00:00 We will now talk to Jason Paolo Tellez
00:03 to talk about indigenous media and popular culture in the Philippines.
00:07 Good day to you, Jason Paolo.
00:10 Good day to all the viewers of Rise and Shine Philippines.
00:16 Yes, Paolo can you share with us your inspiration behind indigenous media and popular culture in the Philippines?
00:20 And I know you have a book, can you tell us more about it?
00:26 Okay, so this book, indigenous media and popular culture in the Philippines,
00:31 started when I taught at UP Baguio.
00:35 And we know the campus of UP Baguio is in Cordillera,
00:43 where many of our fellow countrymen live.
00:47 So, I became more aware of what they experience as fellow countrymen,
00:52 discrimination, treating them as strangers, and the different images and beliefs about their abilities and knowledge.
01:01 That's why I started this project to contribute to debunking these misconceptions.
01:09 Well, congratulations on your book.
01:12 And we also want to know your story on PTV because I understand you are also a part of PTV.
01:17 What is your hashtag #kuentongptv?
01:20 Oh my gosh, this is taking too long.
01:23 Actually, I learned a lot from PTV before.
01:27 I was also a part of EEC before and educational programs.
01:32 And as a TV staff, I was also a part of different TV stations.
01:42 And PTV trained me on all the skills I needed to be effective and successful.
01:51 So, I did almost everything in PTV.
01:54 I was a researcher, a coordinator, a floor director, and I was trained in my future jobs in other TV stations.
02:06 And now, I am a teacher and a lecturer even here in Australia.
02:11 Wow, that's amazing.
02:13 PTV is a great training ground because you can learn a lot from it.
02:19 What are the main themes and issues that the book discusses about the indigenous cultures and media in the Philippines?
02:25 Okay, so the main theme is that we need to listen to the perspectives and knowledge of the indigenous people.
02:34 They can contribute to us because we often think that we should help them and teach them.
02:44 But we can also learn a lot from them.
02:47 For example, how they treat the environment, how they do different aspects of life.
02:55 And through their teachings, we can learn how to address different issues in our society.
03:10 So, that's it.
03:12 We should read this book.
03:14 Yes.
03:15 How can we avail this book and where can we follow you?
