00:10 Good Monday morning, everybody.
00:11 Skyler Count here on Between the Ears as we kick off a new week.
00:16 And, well, I didn't see this one come.
00:20 Apparently, the odds makers, or I should say,
00:24 at least at one particular sports book in Fandle,
00:28 are not very high on the Mountaineers.
00:31 And this is, I guess, not all that shocking, but
00:36 six and a half wins?
00:39 That's it?
00:41 Really?
00:42 Six and a half.
00:43 That's what they're going with at Fandle.
00:46 When I had to do a double take, when I saw that pop up on my feed this morning,
00:51 I was actually gonna record about something else.
00:55 And that caught my attention, and here we are.
01:00 So six and a half, it is true, I looked it up.
01:04 I actually saw it from On 3 Sports, or whatever they're called, One Sports.
01:13 I don't really know what their actual name is.
01:16 But click the link to go to Fandle, and what do you know?
01:21 Over under on West Virginia wins for 2024 is six and a half.
01:28 Just to give some perspective here as to some of the others in the Big 12,
01:34 Newcomer Arizona is at eight and a half.
01:37 Arizona State, four and a half.
01:39 Baylor, five and a half.
01:42 BYU, four and a half.
01:43 Cincinnati, five and a half.
01:45 Colorado, five and a half.
01:46 Houston, four and a half.
01:48 Iowa State, seven and a half.
01:50 Kansas, eight and a half.
01:52 Kansas State, nine and a half.
01:54 Oklahoma State, seven and a half.
01:56 TCU, seven and a half.
01:58 Texas Tech, eight and a half.
02:01 UCF, eight and a half.
02:03 And Utah, nine and a half.
02:05 Some of those I'd put in bets right now.
02:08 I mean, eight and a half wins for UCF?
02:11 I mean, what the hell are we doing here?
02:14 I mean, goodness gracious, eight and a half.
02:16 I mean, I get KJ Jefferson, good quarterback, but really?
02:21 He's going to take them to nine wins, potentially?
02:24 Eight or nine wins?
02:24 I don't know.
02:26 I don't know about that.
02:27 There's a few others on there that are quite odd.
02:30 But the one that makes almost no sense is West Virginia, six and a half.
02:36 You have your starting quarterback returning.
02:40 You have your top two running backs returning,
02:43 who may be two of the best running backs in college football,
02:46 or at least the Big 12 on a smaller scale.
02:50 You have some young, promising receivers.
02:52 You still have one of the best offensive lines,
02:54 despite losing two key members of that unit in Zach Fraser and Doug Nestor.
03:00 And defensively, you got some pieces.
03:04 This is a team that just won nine games.
03:08 It's not a team that won nine games off a bunch of luck.
03:13 I mean, they legitimately won nine games.
03:16 Could have been 10 if it wasn't for a damn Hail Mary.
03:22 I mean, I don't understand how this team is only pegged to win six and a half.
03:29 I personally would have guessed that number to be --
03:35 I mean, I think seven and a half wouldn't have been --
03:38 I mean, it sounds crazy.
03:39 I'm going back and forth here over potentially one win on the books,
03:45 but I think seven and a half from the oddsmakers
03:50 would have made more sense
03:52 because you're going to have a little bit more of a challenging schedule next year.
03:58 I get that, and I think that's probably played more into this than anything.
04:05 And I just think seven and a half would have made more sense.
04:09 Me, personally, I'd put it right on the dot at eight.
04:13 I wouldn't even put a half in there
04:15 because I think eight and four is probably most realistic.
04:19 But six and a half, that just makes no sense to me whatsoever.
04:25 I don't see a scenario in which they only win six games.
04:29 I mean, unless things just completely bottom out
04:35 or you have a ton of injuries, six wins?
04:39 I mean, that's talking about getting Neil Brown fired
04:45 because, I mean, we're just being honest here, right?
04:48 If he goes nine and four, you expect him to build on that.
04:54 You expect him to kind of be in that same ballpark again.
04:58 You expect eight or nine wins, maybe even ten.
05:02 You expect to be in the mix for the Big 12 Conference,
05:06 not take three large steps back and go six and six.
05:12 Or worse, again, if that happens,
05:16 I mean, Neil has to be back right on the hot seat again, without doubt.
05:23 Six and a half is way too low, way too low.
05:27 And again, I know I'm saying way too low
05:29 and I'm only bumping it up by one for the odds makers.
05:32 For me, I'm saying eight.
05:35 Eight makes a lot more sense to me.
05:39 I just don't get it.
05:41 I really don't. I don't see six losses on this schedule.
05:45 Even with it being more challenging,
05:48 I mean, you have seven home games,
05:51 seven legit, true home games played at Milan Pushkar Stadium
05:56 out in your field.
05:58 You have maybe even an eighth if you want to count the Pitt game.
06:03 They're going to lose six games, potentially?
06:06 Where is the logic?
06:09 That's the thing that I'm trying to figure out.
06:12 Where is the logic in this?
06:14 Are they going to lose three or four games at home?
06:18 No.
06:20 Not happening.
06:22 I'm sorry, just not.
06:23 I mean, I could see them losing the opener against Penn State.
06:27 They're going to lose two or three other home games?
06:31 I struggle to find where that would be.
06:35 I don't know.
06:36 Let me know your thoughts here on the YouTube comments.
06:39 If you're on or watching on YouTube.
06:41 If you're not and you're watching on the site,
06:42 go over to YouTube and let us know your thoughts there.
06:46 What do you think about this ridiculous
06:48 six-and-a-half win total set for West Virginia by Fandul Sports?
06:53 That's just fascinating.
06:54 I can't wait to see what some of these other sports books
06:58 come out with.
06:59 I would imagine they're all going to be around the same,
07:02 you know, six-and-a-half, seven.
07:03 I don't think we'll see a seven-and-a-half.
07:07 If someone's already come out with six-and-a-half,
07:09 they're all going to be around the same area.
07:11 But who knows? Maybe there is some that they know.
07:14 And we're just not seeing it from,
07:18 you know, the people that watch this team every single week.
07:21 So, that'll do it for us here today.
