From Haymarket to Hurstville, Asian communities across Sydney are celebrating Lunar New Year. This year marks the year of the dragon - a symbol of power and prosperity.

00:00 It's an ancient art form Kelvin Tran has been learning since he was a child.
00:07 Now the 24-year-old leads a team of young dragon dancers himself.
00:13 I think it's really important to keep dragon line dancing alive,
00:16 especially with young people in the Western world.
00:19 I think that it's a really important way to keep young people engaged with their culture and their heritage.
00:24 The group is particularly in demand this Lunar New Year.
00:27 With this year being the Year of the Dragon, there's actually a lot of interest in having our dragon dance team out.
00:32 Indie band Vinyl House is also excited to be celebrating their culture this New Year.
00:41 Korean-Australian musicians infuse K-pop with jazz and R&B.
00:48 Since Australia is such a multicultural country,
00:51 it's really amazing how we can sing both in English and in Korean
00:55 and we can incorporate that together to be a voice for Australia but also for Korea.
01:01 Fan Dong-Wang's striking dragon artworks are on display as part of festivities in Sydney's south.
01:08 The Shanghai-born artist uses traditional Chinese techniques but with a modern twist.
01:13 The style is a bit like pop art but mixed with traditional Chinese carving techniques.
01:23 So I call it a sculptural painting. So that's my invention.
01:28 With a growing Asian community in Australia, Lunar New Year celebrations here are bigger than ever.
01:34 Once confined to Chinatowns and capital cities,
01:37 there are now major celebrations across the suburbs and regional areas.
01:41 I think it's great that we're able to promote our culture and our art all over Sydney and all over Australia.
