President Biden mixes up Mexico and Egypt while addressing hostage situationReuters
Transcript
00:00 The conduct of the response in the Gaza Strip has been over the top.
00:16 I think that, as you know, initially the president of Mexico, Osisi, did not want to open up
00:27 the gate to allow humanitarian material to get in.
00:31 I talked to him.
00:33 I convinced him to open the gate.
00:34 I talked to Bibi to open the gate on the Israeli side.
00:38 I've been pushing really hard, really hard, to get humanitarian assistance into Gaza.
00:43 There are a lot of innocent people who are starving, a lot of innocent people who are
00:47 in trouble and dying.
00:49 And it's got to stop, number one.
00:51 Number two, I was also in the position that I'm the guy that made the case that we have
00:57 to do much more to increase the amount of material going in, including fuel, including
01:03 other items.
01:04 I've been on the phone with the Qataris.
01:06 I've been on the phone with the Egyptians.
01:08 I've been on the phone with the Saudis to get as much aid as we possibly can into Gaza.
01:15 There are innocent people and innocent women and children who are also in badly need of
01:19 help.
01:20 And so that's what we're pushing.
01:21 And I'm pushing very hard now to deal with this hostage ceasefire, because I've been
01:28 working tirelessly in this deal -- how can I say this without revealing it -- to lead
01:35 to a sustained pause in the fighting, in the actions taking place in the Gaza Strip.
