00:00 The Food and Drug Administration is concerned about the sale of a drug that is really for diabetes,
00:09 but some people are using it to lose weight.
00:12 Vaughn Aquino has the report.
00:14 Ozempic has not used a drug for a year.
00:19 Lexy Ortanes has lost 18 kilograms in weight.
00:24 But she clarified that she is not using Ozempic to lose weight but to lower her blood sugar.
00:31 She was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, so the doctor prescribed it to her.
00:36 But her supply is a problem in the market.
00:39 Right now, it's really hard to actually get Ozempic, even if there's a prescription and everything else.
00:46 The stocks are running out.
00:49 Lexy is worried because she needs to go to the doctor next week but she hasn't bought anything yet.
00:55 According to the Food and Drug Administration,
00:58 Ozempic is approved for people with type 2 diabetes and not as a weight loss treatment.
01:04 They are being told to sell it online without a prescription.
01:08 They are investigating it and are asking for help from the NBI and CIDG.
01:13 We have to figure out if these are the establishments with license to operate from the FDA
01:20 or these are private persons who don't have a license to operate with the FDA.
01:25 So with that, we start the investigation by figuring out where the products are being distributed.
01:32 The FDA is reminding the public to be careful with the health products they use
01:36 and to report the prescription drugs that are being sold online illegally.
01:40 The doctor is worried that the use of Ozempic, even if it's just normal blood sugar,
01:45 is harmful to health.
01:47 The number one thing that our brain needs is sugar.
01:53 If your sugar level drops, it can have an effect on our brain.
02:01 It can make us unconscious. If we don't notice that our sugar level has dropped,
02:14 it can lead to a coma.
02:18 Despite the serious side effects of using Ozempic without diabetes,
02:24 there are thyroid tumors and pancreatitis.
02:28 The same goes for measurement of nausea.
02:30 Dr. Limpin's advice to those who want to lose weight is to reduce eating high in carbohydrates,
02:36 not eating too much of what your body needs, and exercise.
