00:44 - The eyes of the nation were on the political firestorm
00:47 in Wisconsin late last winter,
00:49 when Republican Governor Scott Walker
00:51 took on the labor union,
00:52 representing the state's public employees.
00:55 - What we're doing here in Wisconsin
00:56 is leading the way with a better alternative.
00:59 - Governor, we can hear thousands of people
01:01 in the halls screaming, "Shame, shame, shame."
01:03 We can hear that in your office right now.
01:05 Can you respond to that?
01:06 - Sure.
01:07 I've said every day since I introduced this a month ago,
01:11 that the protesters who are here and around the Capitol,
01:14 at least those from Wisconsin,
01:15 increasingly there are more and more from other states,
01:17 but those from Wisconsin have every right to be here.
01:20 - This is a total attack.
01:23 This is the killing of a generation of people.
01:26 - We encouraged our kids to go
01:27 into these honorable professions,
01:30 and now they're getting screwed for it.
01:32 - We're not gonna let just one man
01:37 and one set of politicians come in
01:40 and change everything that we've been working on for so long.
01:43 - Let her go! Let her go!
01:45 Let her go! Let her go!
01:48 - They're not providing a labor law!
01:53 - Walk in! You have every right!
02:00 Walk in!
02:00 Walk in!
02:06 - It's a terrible assault on labor or work in general.
02:10 - If this goes through and it starts there,
02:12 it's just the beginning of the end
02:14 for any of the unions across the states.
02:17 - Walking away from teaching is like saying,
02:23 "Don't be who you are anymore."
02:25 And, you know, that's not a fair thing to say to somebody.
02:30 I don't think that's fair at all.
02:32 - This is not just a union fight,
02:33 but it's a middle-class fight,
02:35 and we need all hands working,
02:36 as we say in the fire service.
02:39 - We've had a complete breakdown
02:43 of the democratic process here in Wisconsin.
02:47 - It's the system that needs to be recalled.
02:51 It's the system that needs to be taken down and transformed.
02:54 It's the system that needs to be upended.
02:58 - Their vision of democracy is very, very different than ours
03:01 and people really have to pay attention to this
03:03 and start bird-docking these institutions,
03:06 these legislators, these corporations,
03:08 and taking back their democracy.
03:12 - You have aroused a sleeping giant
03:14 known as the working people of the United States of America.
03:20 Medicine is only the beginning.
