00:00 We have a game here that is a Super Bowl rematch and a repeat winner from last year. Is that possible?
00:10 Well, in the first 39 Super Bowls we had eight repeat winners. In the last 18, big fat zero.
00:16 See if Pat Mahomes can run it back here for the Kansas City Chiefs.
00:20 But obviously the Niners are looking to get revenge from a few years ago.
00:23 Plenty of changes on both teams, we recognize that.
00:26 But the core of these teams still together. The coaches, change of QB for the Niners obviously.
00:32 But Patrick Mahomes, a big part of the Chiefs success.
00:35 We'll break down his stats a little bit later.
00:37 But how did they get here and how did these odds stack up throughout the preseason?
00:41 I think it's important to note that both of these teams were expected to be pretty close to this position.
00:46 Both divisional favorites, they both closed it out.
00:49 Maybe not with style points in the Chiefs case, but 11-6 regular season record.
00:53 The Niners at 12-5 were favored all the way through.
00:57 As far as their conference matchups going into the season, the Chiefs were expected to win the AFC.
01:03 Perhaps not by the time we got to the playoffs because the Baltimore Ravens had such a great regular season.
01:09 The Chiefs obviously able to overcome them just a week ago and make it back to the Super Bowl here in Las Vegas.
01:15 But the Niners, there was a little bit more doubt when it came to their chances for the Super Bowl.
01:21 As we got closer to the regular season, the Niners were 10-1 to make it to the Super Bowl.
01:28 Obviously, their NFC odds, the Niners were still pretty short, plus 350.
01:33 So we have both of these teams favored to win the conferences as we got close to the regular season.
01:38 And here they are. It's rare that we've had that instance.
01:41 Generally, you have a team like the Eagles coming a little bit out of left field to make the Super Bowl like they did a year ago.
01:47 But we find ourselves landing here.
01:49 The Tigers were the favorites to make the Super Bowl from the day the Super Bowl 57 ended all the way up until the regular season.
01:55 Obviously peaks and valleys throughout the season, but they find themselves back in this position.
02:00 Even though at some point people thought, "Well, this offense isn't the same as what it was."
02:04 Are they going to get back to this spot? And here they are.
02:07 They find themselves trying to repeat, yet they are the underdogs.
02:11 We've had underdogs win cover in five of the last seven Super Bowls, so certainly a possibility here.
02:17 Their last Super Bowl was 2022. It was a year ago.
02:21 This is their second in four seasons.
02:25 The Niners' last Super Bowl win was 1994.
02:30 So we're looking at a team that has 29 seasons of not being able to close it out.
02:37 The Niners, obviously, are looked at historically very favorably.
02:41 They play off their history very well.
02:43 For it to be nearly 30 years since they won their last Super Bowl is shocking to some.
02:48 Their last appearance was in 2019, a loss to the Chiefs.
02:51 Then over ten years ago, they lost to the Baltimore Ravens.
02:56 One other thing important to note regarding this stadium, regarding the location here in Las Vegas.
03:03 These teams at Allegiant Stadium, 5-0. Something's got to give, right?
03:07 The Chiefs, 4-0 at Allegiant Stadium. The Niners won their lone appearance against the Las Vegas Raiders
03:13 here in Las Vegas in week 17 of the 2022 season.
03:17 So, right now, the spread sits at a +2.
03:21 We've seen fluctuation throughout the week, down to +1, back up to +2.
03:26 The Chiefs, as that underdog.
