00:00 A senior lawyer said it is virtually impossible for Najib Razak to seek a retrial of his SRC

00:11 Lawyer Salim Bashir pointed out that Najib had exhausted the entire judicial process,

00:16 which meant a retrial was out of the question.

00:18 He said the former prime minister was convicted and sentenced after a full trial in the high

00:23 court and two appeals to the court of appeal and federal court.

00:27 Salim also said Najib's application to have another federal court review the final verdict

00:32 was dismissed last year by a majority ruling.

00:35 Meanwhile, lawyer Bastian Pais van Dargen said Najib could ask for a retrial if fresh

00:40 and material evidence emerges.

00:43 He said Najib could make another application for a full pardon similar to the one obtained

00:47 by then-de facto PKR president Anwar Ibrahim in 2018.

00:52 They were responding to calls for UPnode to keep pushing for a re-hearing of Najib's

00:56 case on grounds that he was denied a fair trial.

01:00 Last week, the Federal Territories Pardons Board announced that Najib's 12-year jail

01:04 term had been reduced to six while the fine of 210 million ringgit was brought down to

01:09 50 million ringgit.
