00:02 Discovering new places is one of the best parts of cycling,
00:11 which is why today you find me out in the lanes
00:14 just above Reading, which is 20 miles west of London,
00:16 somewhere where I must say I've never ridden before.
00:19 So it's fair to say my inner explorer is very happy.
00:23 To help me on this adventure into the unknown,
00:25 Komoot have come to the rescue with five tricks
00:28 to ensure that we can all get the most out of our riding,
00:31 whether we're riding on road or off it.
00:33 And a couple of these features
00:34 are brand new to the platform.
00:36 So let's get into them.
00:38 (upbeat music)
00:40 First up, Komoot have just introduced
00:46 a brand new feature called Trail View.
00:48 Now, how Trail View works is that it takes
00:50 the best user submitted pictures of the trail itself
00:54 and drops it on their Trail View map as green dots.
00:57 So you can really see what the trail was like.
01:00 This means at a quick glance,
01:01 you can see how steep, rocky or smooth
01:04 the trail actually is and whether or not
01:07 it's gonna fit your level of riding.
01:09 The best part about this is that it really adds
01:11 a new dimension to route planning,
01:12 especially for those of you that are planning off road routes
01:15 because being able to see what the trail is really like
01:18 is something that actually you can't get anywhere else.
01:21 So where I think this comes in especially useful
01:23 is if you're planning a route in a new country
01:26 where you may be completely unfamiliar with the geography.

01:32 Next up, Komoot have recently built in Google Street View
01:38 into the platform.
01:39 So similar to Trail View, at the touch of a button,
01:42 you can see what parkour you're gonna be up against.
01:45 Now, I love this because it means that you no longer
01:48 have to keep switching between tabs
01:50 and it makes the process a whole lot quicker.
01:52 The best thing about it is that it really speeds up
01:54 your ability to look at different route options
01:57 within Komoot itself, which for me, massive bonus.

02:04 When out riding in a new area,
02:09 it's not always super easy to know
02:11 where the local bike paths are,
02:12 but with Komoot's detailed map overlays
02:15 and a variety of options on how you wanna build them up,
02:18 it is very easy to see that granular data
02:21 that Komoot has to offer.
02:24 They've also made it easier to orientate yourself
02:26 when the satellite layer is active,
02:28 because let's face it,
02:30 when you're trying to navigate a new area,
02:31 you're often working off different landmarks.
02:34 So being able to see these
02:36 makes the route planning process a whole lot easier.
02:38 (upbeat music)
02:41 Now, this next tip may actually be one of my favorites
02:44 because it really allows you to get right
02:46 into the local knowledge.
02:48 And that's of course Komoot's Highlights tool.
02:51 Now, the way that it works is that it drops a whole load
02:53 of red dots onto the map area.
02:55 Now, this could be anything from a cafe,
02:58 some really nice flowy single track,
02:59 or potentially just a really well-stocked shop.
03:03 Now, when you click on one of these dots,
03:04 it's gonna tell you exactly what it is that's there
03:06 and why you should know about it.
03:08 So again, you're just building up a really deep knowledge
03:11 and really tapping into that granular data
03:13 that's on Komoot.
03:14 This means that you can proactively build in cafe stops
03:17 and past shops to ensure that you're not gonna ride
03:20 on an empty stomach,
03:20 because nobody enjoys doing that for miles on end.
03:24 It also means you're gonna be able to find the best roads
03:26 with either the best tarmac or the best views
03:29 that otherwise you may never have known
03:31 were there in the first place.
03:33 (upbeat music)
03:35 My final tip to ensure you get the most out of a new area
03:42 is actually just to trust Komoot.
03:45 Once you input your start point and your end point
03:47 and your desired discipline,
03:49 be that road cycling, mountain biking, or gravel riding,
03:52 Komoot will pull all of this together
03:53 and then work out the best route for you and your bike.
03:56 Once Komoot has plotted the route,
03:58 it will display a pretty detailed bit of information.
04:01 One being the elevation profile,
04:03 so you'll see how many big climbs there are,
04:05 and it'll also break down the different surface types
04:08 that you'll be riding on.
04:09 So if there's any surfaces there
04:10 that you don't wanna be on,
04:11 all you have to do is simply drag the route
04:13 to an alternative and Komoot will do the rest.
04:17 So there we have it.
04:18 Those are my five tricks to make sure
04:19 that you can get the most out of riding
04:21 in any new environment with the help of Komoot.
04:24 If you've got any tips or tricks,
04:25 do drop them down in the comments.
