Marmalade Atkins was not a nice girl. She drove her parents and her teachers to despair. After she is expelled from school, her social worker decides that drastic action is called for - "for her own good", you understand. She proposes VET (Very Extreme Treatment), which involves sending Marmalade Atkins into space! How is she going to get out of this?

Starring Charlotte Coleman, John Bird, Lynda Marchal, Gillian Raine, Dudley Sutton, Dicken Ashworth, Rachel Dean, Alice Schaffer and the voice of Freddie Jones as the nodding dog. This was the pilot episode of Marmalade Atkins, titled as "Marmalade Atkins in Space" and shown under an anthology series called Theatre Box on November 2nd 1981. Adapted by Andrew Davies (yes, THAT one) from his own novels, this spawned a hugely successful but rarely repeated TV series called Educating Marmalade. Of interest to some, the actress playing Marmalade's mother, Lynda Marchal, is none other than Lynda La Plante, who went on after this series to write Widows and Prime Suspect. I may add that this is not my own uploads, but that of Zack Smith, who kindly sent me these through to upload on my channel. So you have him to thank for these. Although the pilot episode may be a little ramshackle, the TV series that follows is great fun and will likely never be repeated on TV. You'll soon see why when you see it...
