00:00 Obviously we're here honoring Jon Bon Jovi. Tell me about your first Bon Jovi-related memory.
00:05 So it's the weirdest Bon Jovi memory,
00:09 but when I was growing up I watched the West Wing and he was on an
00:13 episode of the West Wing and I was like,
00:14 "Who is this guy?" And so I went and listened to all of his music and
00:18 was just such a fan after that.
00:20 And so you dove into the catalog, what song stuck out for you or what song has remained your favorite, you think?
00:25 I mean everyone is saying this, but "Living on a Prayer," definitely.
00:28 I mean I can't wait to see who covers it tonight. It's going to be amazing.
00:31 So you've obviously had a long career, we have a lot of new artists around this weekend.
00:37 What advice would you give to someone just starting
00:40 the journey that you've been on?
00:42 So the music industry looked very different when I was starting out. I mean the whole world of social media has exploded
00:48 and now you need to perform in so many different ways. You're performing online, you're performing live,
00:53 you're performing in interviews like this
00:55 to really understand what it means to perform.
00:58 It used to be just about the music and now it's about this whole different world of performing.
01:02 What's the secret to a good performance?
01:04 The secret to a good performance, it's going to sound cheesy, but is to really practice it as much as possible
01:10 in front of people. You can do it in front of the mirror as many times as you want,
01:13 but to really get people's reaction, understand what resonates with them,
01:17 that emotional connection, that's going to get you as far as you can go.
01:20 Okay, what song did you listen to on the way here?
01:23 Oh, that's a good question. Actually, I was listening to an audiobook on the way here.
01:28 (laughing)
