00:00 So what does it mean to you that the kind of who's who of the music industry
00:04 are gathering tonight to celebrate your music?
00:07 It's unbelievable. I mean I can't wait to hear all these artists play our songs.
00:11 It's really going to be... we haven't seen it, we haven't heard it, we haven't seen
00:14 any sound checks or anything. So it's going to be pretty fantastic.
00:17 No, it's going to be fun. It's going to be fun. I mean, and you know, these are
00:22 cases you get to hang out with your peers and and kibitz with them because
00:26 you know everybody's always working. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:30 You guys are celebrating 40 years of the band. What's the vision for the future? Is it
00:34 like a Rolling Stones situation where you're just going to keep doing this in
00:37 perpetuity?
00:38 I've said in the words of Bon Jovi, we're halfway there. We got another 40 years
00:42 and then we're going to reconsider.
00:45 So with 40 years there's of course a lot to look back at. I know the documentary
00:49 Thank You, Good Night is coming out in April.
00:51 What can we expect? Are there any bombshells or things that you know your
00:55 diehard fans don't know? I'm sure there'll be something.
00:58 Lots. There's a lot. It was a warts and all.
01:04 I mean, Gautam Chopra did it and he really went into the whole world of
01:09 each one of us and our past members and present members and no future members.
01:14 But it's pretty excellent.
01:16 It's really wild. At the end of the first, it's a four-part, five hours. I remember
01:21 the end of the first one, we all looked and went, "Wow!" I go, "I can't wait to
01:26 see what number two is." And I go, "And I'm in the band. I know what happens."
01:30 It's pretty cool.
01:31 So if it's exciting for you, it's going to be very exciting for everyone else.
01:35 So you guys know John probably better than most people.
01:38 What makes him... We're here because of his philanthropic work.
01:43 Tell us about that side of him and what you've seen.
01:48 I mean, it's something he started in our hometown. And you can see that not only
01:53 a place of... People need community. And he gave that to the community and people
01:58 who needed it. So you go in there and you work a little bit, you meet other people,
02:02 you hang out, you eat. And to me, in any walk of life, you need community.
02:07 And he's given that to a lot of people.
02:10 What about... So what's something about John that would maybe surprise us?
02:16 It might be a little shorter through the years.
02:20 Got it. Got it. Got it.
02:23 And, you know, Grammys are, of course, this weekend. The Best New Artist category is a big one.
02:27 You guys have been doing this for a long time. What advice would you give for these
02:30 artists that are just coming up and are at the start of their careers?
02:33 Just enjoy it, you know. It's not a sprint, it's a marathon.
02:37 You know, once you get that, once you think you've made it, then the hardest
02:41 thing is to keep it. And then you've really got to work. And that's where the work starts.
