Maddy Cusack's former Sheffield United coach Jonathan Morgan loses job just a week after the FA opened investigation into her tragic death

Jonathan Morgan has left his role as manager of Sheffield United, just a week after the Football Association opened a fresh investigation, into the death of one of his players Maddy Cusack.

In a short statement, Sheffield United details how 'new information' has surfaced about Morgan's conduct before taking the job at Bramall Lane.

They state that that information made his position untenable.

A statement read: 'Sheffield United can confirm that Head Coach of Sheffield United Women's team, Jonathan Morgan, has departed the Club.

'Due to new information that has come to light within the last few days with regards to Mr. Morgan's conduct before arriving at Bramall Lane, the Club has concluded that Mr. Morgan's position is no longer tenable and his employment with the Club has been terminated.'

In September, Mail Sport revealed that Morgan was to step away from his duties as Sheffield United's women's first-team manager after a formal complaint was made over alleged behavior towards certain players.

Morgan was cleared to return to work after an investigation found no evidence of wrongdoing.

He returned to the touchline for the first time when the Blades played Tottenham in the FA Cup earlier this month. But has left his position at Bramall Lane.

Mail Sport understands Cusack's family were not told in advance about Morgan's contract termination on Friday.

Luke Turner has agreed to fill in for Morgan as interim Head Coach, starting with Sunday's Women's Championship match against Durham Women.

Morgan spent seven years with Leicester City and took the club from the fourth tier to the Women's Super League before being dismissed in November 2021.

He was appointed manager of Burnley in May 2022 and went 16 games unbeaten before leaving for Sheffield United last year.

Mail Sport revealed last month how the Football Association launched an investigation into the tragic death of Sheffield United vice-captain Cusack after her family presented the governing body with new information.

Cusack, who was the club's longest-serving player and their first to reach 100 appearances, died at her home in Horsley, Derbyshire, on September 20. Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

Sheffield United appointed an independent third party in October to carry out a formal investigation into concerns the family had raised about processes and conduct at the club.

It is understood that Maddy's family provided Sheffield United with a list of names of people that they felt needed to be spoken to in the independent investigation that the club commissioned.

However, when the probe concluded, they were left frustrated that some of those on the list had not been approached.

That investigation found no evidence of wrongdoing but the FA confirmed they were reviewing that process earlier this month.
