00:20 and looks back at her longtime friendship with the media mogul,
00:23 a tight-knit bond forged in their early 20s while working at the same news station.
00:28 We were 21 and 22.
00:30 In newsroom hierarchy, as you know, the production assistant is here
00:34 and the news anchor is here,
00:36 but we clicked because we were single, we were black,
00:39 we found that we had similar philosophies.
00:42 This friend has always wanted more from me than I ever wanted from myself.
00:46 Flash forward over 40 years later.
00:48 Gayle's now at the anchor desk.
00:50 And Oprah, well, think about it like this.

01:04 I will sometimes go and say, you know, "Here, I'll pick up,"
01:07 and they go, "Oh, no, it's already taken care of."
01:09 Wow. That big time.
01:11 Yeah, her security, her security is there and they've just already taken care of the bill.
01:15 Gayle also answers an age-old question.
01:18 What do you get the person who has everything?
01:21 Oprah says, "I don't want presents. I don't need anything."
01:23 But I think everybody likes a present.
01:25 I'll find something that I know she likes and just give it,
01:28 even though it may not be a special occasion.

01:33 And speaking of gifts.
01:35 That you will love, honor, and cherish him.
01:37 If you blinked, you will miss me in that movie.
01:40 Yeah, did you know about Gayle's big screen debut?
01:43 When she got that job as Sophia in "Color Purple,"
01:45 which is now back in the theaters, please go see it,
01:48 I was so excited for her.
01:51 So I said, "Can I come see you on the set?"
01:52 And then I'm there and they said, "Hey, would you like to be an extra?"
01:55 "Okay." Yeah. That's how that happened.
01:58 As Gayle said, "The Color Purple,"
02:00 a beloved novel-turned-movie-turned-Broadway hit,
02:02 is now a movie musical.
02:04 I come here out of respect.
02:08 Sophia is a character that resonates with people
02:10 over and over again.
02:12 Playing that character changed me,
02:14 and one of the great, great joys for me
02:17 was to be on set watching Danielle Brooks
02:21 take it on and make it her own.
02:23 One of the great, deep joys for your life
02:26 is the satisfaction of being able to pass it on to someone else.
02:30 Another one of those joys?
02:32 How about a 40-year friendship?
02:34 I will sometimes go and say, "You know, here, I'll bake,"
02:36 and they go, "Oh, no, it's already taken care of."
02:38 Anybody who's done any growing in their life
02:41 knows that some of your friends didn't make the mountain.
02:44 Yeah. They lost oxygen.
02:46 Yeah. Oxygen. Yeah.
02:47 They lost oxygen. Yes.
02:49 They couldn't take-- They're happy for it now.
02:50 They couldn't take the higher altitude,
02:52 and you lose them because they cannot be happy for you
02:55 in your happiness.
02:56 So that's the reason why we're besties.
