00:00 I hurt all the time. I say that only for you people that hurt also. Like I get it.
00:05 Selma Blair is sharing a new update on her health journey.
00:09 After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018 and going into remission in 2021,
00:16 the actress takes to Instagram on January 29th to share how she's doing with her fans.
00:22 The MS is fine. I'm still in remission. I'm due for another MRI and blood work,
00:27 but I seem to be doing fine and this helps so much.
00:31 I still get tired. I still am stiff like all the time.
00:35 If I'm by myself, I do move and walk better and in open space,
00:41 but still I notice when I go out, it's still very pronounced when I go into different rooms.
00:47 Hallways or meeting new people or even focusing on talking about it.
00:52 So I kind of don't mind talking about how strange that is because I know it can look weird.
00:57 And when I didn't talk to anyone else that had MS or other things that might be like this,
01:03 some neurological or other chronic things, I didn't know that it could come and go like that.
01:10 And while she says her MS is under control,
01:12 the effects of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome have been difficult for Selma.
01:17 According to the Mayo Clinic, the condition is a "group of inherited disorders that affect your connective tissues."
01:24 Because the Ehlers-Danlos, which is something so many more people have now than I realized,
01:29 but you know, it's that stretchy, like your muscles just aren't as stable.
01:32 So the Ehlers-Danlos will make me really, really, really stiff because I'll pull my muscles too easily
01:38 and then they're like slack and sit there. So I get some injuries.
01:41 But this is nothing that's like horrible, scary stuff or anything.
01:45 It's just like one of those extra things that turns into a chronic thing and you have to watch
01:49 because people think stretching is so good for you and I'm technically not allowed to stretch
01:52 because I'm always stretching.
01:53 The 51-year-old also notes the frequency of pain she's in and how it affects her day to day.
01:59 I hurt all the time. I say that only for you people that hurt also.
02:03 Like I get it. And for all of us, just aging, it hurts. You have to stretch.
02:09 But for me, it's hard to stretch.
02:10 However, amidst the symptoms, she's still remaining positive.
02:15 But I am doing well. I'm doing well. Tired.
02:18 And people say, "What do you want to do with your life?" It still makes me sad.
02:22 But I just want to sleep and then get on my horse and be better. I'm a beginner every day.
02:27 So it's like Groundhog Day and I am doing really well. There's no complaining.
02:31 But I don't know if I'll ever have the coordination or balance or stamina that I want to.
02:36 Still lucky. Still grateful. Still okay. But still a bummer.
02:39 As fans recall, in October of 2018, Selma announced on Instagram
02:44 that she had been diagnosed with MS earlier that year
02:48 and detailed that she might have had the disease for 15 years prior to her diagnosis.
02:53 Since then, the actress has opened up about the difficulties of her journey
02:58 working with disability advocacy groups like the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America.
03:04 She told Self in January of 2023, "I always say, 'How visibility matters for the disabled.'
03:11 Well, visibility matters for everyone. You have to show that you're still alive."
