The 2025 CX-70, a five-seat version of the CX-90, will offer buyers with small families a premium SUV with rechargeable power.

Mazda has finally taken the wraps off the 2025 CX-70, the two-row version of its largest SUV, the CX-90. With similar styling and nearly the same powertrain lineup, this model will be perfect for buyers who want a CX-90 but are more interested in hauling stuff than people.

Mazda openly admits that the CX-70 is better suited to suburbia than off-road trails, but that clarity of purpose may be a good thing, as the automaker hopes to offer a large premium SUV for small families. The automaker says it's focused on offering owners plenty of cabin and cargo space.

According to Mazda, the CX-70 will offer buyers an "impressive" and "diverse" color palette on the interior, complemented by high-quality materials such as gray metallic finishes, Nappa leather and Mazda-inspired red stitching details.

Unfortunately, interior dimensions have not yet been shared, but Mazda says features such as remote-folding rear seats will make it easier to load long items into the luggage compartment. Hooks for bags, additional compartments and an undercarriage to keep valuables out of sight will help increase the CX-70's practicality.

The exterior design follows the CX-90, which is fine as it is a handsome SUV. Mazda says its proportions come from "sporty" underpinnings. Like the CX-90, the CX-70 will have a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive all-wheel drive powertrain.

Buyers will have the option of a 3.3-liter turbocharged mild-hybrid inline-six engine or a plug-in hybrid setup based on a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Although Mazda has yet to confirm the CX-70's specifications, given that these are the same powertrains offered on the three-row model, it seems safe to assume that the outputs will be similar.

In the CX-90, the 3.3-liter engine delivers either 280 hp (209 kW/284 PS) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque or 340 hp (253 kW/345 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) . Nm) torque. Meanwhile, the four-pot and electric motors in the PHEV setup combine to deliver 323 hp (241 kW/327 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque.

Mazda says the CX-70 will come with many new driver-assistance technologies. These include navigational and traffic support, as well as unresponsive driver support, which slows the SUV down if the driver is unconscious or unable to control the vehicle.

The model will also integrate Amazon's voice assistant Alexa, allowing the driver to change the temperature, radio station or smart home devices by issuing hands-free commands.

Mazda hasn't yet announced when the new CX-70 will hit showrooms or how much it will cost, but it has stated that it will be a 2025 model year vehicle, so more details should be released later this year.
