00:00 Ryan Gosling speaks out on Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig's acting and directing Oscar snubs.
00:06 On January 23rd, the actor learned he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his role as Ken in the mega-hit Barbie.
00:14 In a statement to E! News, Ryan says,
00:16 "I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films.
00:24 And I never thought I'd be saying this, but I'm also incredibly honored and proud that it's for portraying a plastic doll named Ken."
00:31 He then adds, "But there is no Ken without Barbie. And there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie,
00:38 the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film.
00:43 No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit, and genius."
00:49 "To say that I'm disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.
00:54 Against all odds, with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls,
01:00 they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture, and they made history.
01:05 Their work should be recognized, along with the other very deserving nominees."
01:09 He adds, "Having said that, I am so happy for America Ferreira and the other incredible artists
01:15 who contributed their talents to making this a groundbreaking film."
01:19 Margot was shut out of the Best Performance by an Actress category, however, as Ryan notes,
01:24 their co-star America Ferreira did receive a nod for Actress in a Supporting Role.
01:29 And despite the monster box office success of Barbie, director Greta Gerwig did not receive a nom in the Best Directing category.
01:36 However, Margot and Greta weren't completely snubbed, Barbie is nominated for Best Picture,
01:41 and as a producer on the film, Robbie is up for this award.
01:44 And Greta is nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay.
01:47 America Ferreira said in a statement to E! News after her nomination,
01:51 "Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie made history and raised the bar with Barbie.
01:55 The cultural and industry impact they've achieved will be felt for generations,
02:00 and I'm so thankful to them for asking me to be a part of it."
