00:00 Aaron Eckhart is constructing a beatdown in the actioner The Bricklayer from Die Hard 2 director
00:05 Renny Harlin. Ex-CIA agent turned bricklayer, Eckhart is called out of retirement and teamed
00:11 up with Nina Dobrev to track down Clifton Collins Jr, who is trying to turn the world against the
00:16 agency as revenge for the death of his family. Between this and The Beekeeper, it's a really
00:21 boom period for people in nondescript jobs who turn out to be secret ass-kickers, and The Bricklayer
00:26 is the most fun when it leans into its silly gimmick, particularly in an early fight scene on
00:30 a rooftop where Eckhart dispatches enemies with construction equipment. Unfortunately it turns
00:34 very generic very quickly as it gets bogged down in tedious intrigue, convoluted plotting and Tim
00:40 Blake Nelson cashing a paycheck, revealing that its influence isn't really John Wick so much as
00:45 just another sub-born clone. The once promising Eckhart grouses his way through another Bee movie
00:50 actioner in a role originally intended for Jarrah Butler, and Eckhart is particularly
00:54 charmless against Nina Dobrev. If you want silly action junk that's at least entertaining,
00:58 stick with The Beekeeper.
