00:00 Hey guys, I'm Jen and I am here to welcome you to the 2023 Staylist, which is a Farr's
00:05 compendium of the best new hotels around the world.
00:10 I am here in the Chelsea Hotel, which got a recent renovation here in New York City
00:15 and is now welcoming an entirely new generation of artists and creatives like it once did.
00:20 I can't wait to show you the rest of the list.
00:23 Let me take you on a tour.
00:25 The Staylist is our yearly spotlight of the new and renovated hotels that we believe are
00:29 truly game-changing.
00:31 The hotels we love don't just wow us with their outstanding locations, design, and service.
00:36 They're also continually looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint, benefit
00:40 communities in meaningful ways, and connect guests to biodiverse landscapes.
00:45 We vet all of these properties personally to ensure that these hotels are truly walking
00:50 the walk.
00:52 This is just a sampling of a few properties on our list, and you can see all 15 winners
00:55 for this year on afar.com or in our print magazine.
00:58 Links to both are in the description.
01:02 Wildflower Farms is one of the newest hotels from a Burr's Resorts collection.
01:07 It's just a 90-minute drive north of Manhattan, but thanks to its location on a former tree
01:11 farm, this cluster of 65 cottages feels a world away.
01:16 We love that city-weary guests from Manhattan can escape the hustle and bustle up here and
01:21 connect with nature in a slower pace of life.
01:23 Whether that means you're picking up eggs from the chicken coop or walking along the
01:26 property's scenic trails.
01:30 Back in New York City, our next hotel is the world-famous Chelsea, which you've already
01:34 heard a little about.
01:35 This icon stands out for a completely different reason.
01:38 It has long been a hub for creatives, having played hosts to the likes of Andy Warhol,
01:42 poet Dylan Thomas, and Janis Joplin.
01:45 Today, it's opening a new chapter with a thoughtful renovation from a trio of accomplished
01:49 hoteliers including Sean MacPherson, who also did the very cool Jane and Bowery hotels in
01:54 Manhattan.
01:55 The hotel feels thoroughly modern in its creature comforts, but with plenty of nods to its past
02:01 throughout.
02:03 And now we're off to the Caribbean.
02:05 Surrounded by nature on the island of Dominica, Colibri Ridge caught our attention because
02:09 it's setting a new standard for sustainability in the region.
02:12 The property is powered by solar and wind and harvests rainwater on site, all while
02:17 maintaining a luxurious experience for guests.
02:21 During the day, nearby Martinique is visible from all of the rooms.
02:26 This next lodge is one that I personally got to visit and I'm so excited to include it
02:29 on our 2023 stay list.
02:32 And not just because it's in Tanzania, one of my favorite countries.
02:35 This lodge is part of an incredible conservation-minded company called Anne Beyond, and it's located
02:40 on the edge of Serengeti National Park.
02:42 The existing camp was completely rebuilt into 10 canvas-walled rooms that feature local
02:47 hardwood that was sustainably sourced.
02:50 The lodge runs on 80% renewable energy, and as you might imagine, wildlife is the main
02:55 draw.
02:56 But staff-led experiences bring guests deeper into nature, be it by spotting elephants on
03:01 a walking safari or visiting fishing communities on nearby Lake Victoria.
03:06 In India's history-filled region of Rajasthan, Udaipur has plenty of palatial stays, but
03:11 the Raffles Udaipur captures the opulence of this historic kingdom with grand architecture,
03:17 gardens that are home to 30 bird species, and a lavish spa.
03:21 Set on a private island, this hotel has 101 luxurious lake-view rooms with marble inlay
03:27 work and hand-painted murals.
03:29 Pay close attention to the menu at the on-site restaurant Sawai Kitchen, which features regional
03:34 heirloom recipes.
03:37 On the lush Indonesian island of Bali, in the jungle north of Ubud, Buahan A Banyan
03:42 Tree Escape is reshaping the high-end hotel experience into one without walls.
03:47 In this remote, crowd-free part of Bali, guests stay in one of 16 open-air bales, or villas.
03:53 Each villa includes a private infinity pool, a hammered copper bathtub, and boat jetty
03:58 columns salvaged from nearby Borneo.
04:01 Guests can visit the property's waterfall, firefly nursery, and open-air spa, and then
04:05 end the day with a locally-sourced meal prepared by Bali-born chef Eka Sunaria.
04:12 Now I'm taking you to the desert.
04:14 At Habita Salula, an otherworldly retreat in the Ashar Valley of Saudi Arabia, the 96
04:19 luxury villas were built with organic materials that blend into their surroundings.
04:23 Some even include their own telescope, evoking the Bedouin experience of stargazing in the
04:28 Arabian desert.
04:29 The real draw is the area's deep cultural history.
04:36 There you have it guys, that is the 2023 stay list.
04:39 I hope you liked every single one of those hotels just as much as we do, and I hope you
04:43 visit them soon.
04:44 Don't forget to hit like and subscribe on the way out, and be sure to check out our
04:47 other hotel tour videos.
04:49 We've got a lot of fun stuff in the works too, so stay tuned and watch this space.
04:54 See you soon.
04:54 Bye.
