00:00 It has been a busy week.
00:01 We got off the podcast Monday by, I don't know, two, three in the afternoon,
00:06 something like that.
00:07 The Steelers made their first request to interview Los Angeles Rams
00:12 quarterback coach and passing game coordinator Zach Robinson.
00:15 Since then, they have shown or not shown, but reports have said
00:20 that they are interested in Cliff Kingsbury.
00:22 They have interviewed Thomas Brown.
00:25 Sources tell all Steelers.
00:26 They have also interviewed Gerard Johnson.
00:30 I mean, four big names in a matter of a week.
00:33 I think if this was years past one, the position would have been filled
00:38 by Eddie Faulkner by now or Mike Sullivan if this was not 2024.
00:42 And two, I think I think that poke and stick meme would be out so hard
00:48 on guys and people would be so angry with this team because they just
00:51 be sitting around.
00:51 Instead, they're moving fast.
00:53 They got four candidates.
00:54 You look at these candidates.
00:56 What's your takeaway?
00:57 How you feeling?
00:58 What's your what's your hot and cold meter on where you stand with
01:02 the Pittsburgh Steelers in their current offensive coordinator
01:04 search as we close out week one?
01:06 Well, I think generally I like the the profile of the candidates
01:10 they're looking at.
01:10 I'm just a little surprised because you know, we heard Mike Tomlin.
01:14 What was that now?
01:15 Two weeks ago, two weeks ago, I think just kind of lay out his
01:20 ideal makeup of an offensive coordinator and he said he wants
01:25 wanted someone experienced someone who had NFL play calling experience
01:30 and just someone who like you got the sense that he wanted someone
01:34 a little bit older, you know, like someone who had been would been
01:37 in the weeds a little bit and this is just that's just not like
01:41 Gerard Johnson doesn't really fall under that category.
01:43 No, I Robinson doesn't fall under that category.
01:46 Cliff Kingsbury only in a really limited capacity falls under that
01:50 category.
01:50 Yeah, and I believe the name is escaping me.
01:55 Panthers.
01:55 I see what's on his brown.
01:56 He's a young.
01:57 He's a younger guy to write like he has only had one year, right?
02:01 So it's just a little bit of a different.
02:03 So a lot of these guys check those boxes technically, but not kind
02:09 of to the degree that I guess I expected them to.
02:11 So I guess that's my biggest impression is that right now the
02:14 candidates are really young.
02:15 It's not a tough.
02:16 It's not as experienced to pool as I kind of expected, which I
02:21 don't know if that's necessarily good or bad.
02:22 I was going to ask, do you think that's a do you are you do you
02:26 think they're promising candidates?
02:27 Like are you are you pleased with the candidates even though
02:30 they don't check that box?
02:31 Yeah.
02:32 Yeah, I am.
02:32 Look, I think this these guys, I mean, I think it's good to
02:37 embrace youth, you know for this team right now.
02:39 I think it's it's good to embrace something forward-thinking.
02:42 I think it's good to kind of seek out the next guy.
02:46 I like that approach to see if they can find kind of the next
02:50 dynamic offensive coordinator in this League.
02:51 So I don't hate it.
02:53 It's just it was just notable to me that it is not exactly the
02:57 type of pool of candidates that I really expected.
