Transcript
00:00 This is George Priest from Fort Liverpool World reporting on the day that Jürgen Klopp announced that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
00:06 Going further into the details of why Klopp wanted to leave the club, he revealed that he wasn't so sure about his long-term future at the club after discussing long-term plans about transfers earlier in the summer.
00:17 And he revealed his full reasoning in an emotional interview with the official Liverpool YouTube channel.
00:22 It shows you that I'm convinced it's the one I have to take. It is that I'm... how can I say this? I'm running out of energy.
00:38 He did say that he loves the city, loves the club and loves the people and he also claimed that he would never ever manage any other team in England again out of respect for his time and successes at Liverpool.
00:48 Definitely. I will never ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool. 100%. That's not possible.
00:57 My love for this club, my respect for the people is so big I couldn't for a second think about it. There's no chance. This is part of my life, part of my family, we feel home here. There's no chance to do that.
01:09 Now of course the speculation has turned to who will take over from Jürgen Klopp in the future. Of course there is still five or six months left of the season before we will get any sort of official announcement.
01:18 But as it stands the only successor could be Xabi Alonso who is the bookies favourite and he is having a brilliant season at Bayern Leverkusen having been unbeaten in all competitions so far.
01:27 He has been earmarked as a potential successor of Klopp and he has a special clause in his Bayern Leverkusen contract that stipulates that he has a gentleman's agreement with the club that he can leave in the summer for one of three clubs.
01:39 Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Liverpool.
01:42 Second in the bookies odds is assistant manager Pep Linders but it has been announced that him and the rest of the backroom staff will be leaving with Klopp at the end of the season.
01:51 And the third choice in the bookies odds is Brighton manager Roberto De Serbi. Of course his first game in charge of Brighton was at Anfield when they drew 3-0 earlier in the 2022/23 season.
02:02 And it was a fantastic game and he is no doubt a brilliant manager who has brought great success to Brighton but he stands as an outside contender at this point.
02:10 Of course Jürgen Klopp brought great success to Liverpool across the years he has been at the club. They have become English champions once again, European champions once again.
02:18 And so far this season they are still in all four competitions and have just qualified for the Carabao Cup final which is just in less than a month's time against Chelsea at Wembley.
02:27 Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League and going extremely strong so far and their record at Anfield this season has been exemplary.
02:33 And they could push for a second title in what is now Klopp's last season in charge.
02:38 There is also the FA Cup which they are due to play Norwich in the fourth round at the weekend.
02:42 And the Europa League which is the only trophy Klopp hasn't won so far in his time at Liverpool. Of course they lost to Sevilla in the final in his first season in charge.
02:50 And I am sure he would love to cap off his time at Liverpool with that European success.
02:55 Of course the news is still extremely fresh and there will be a huge reception at Anfield at the weekend for Klopp.
03:01 And this will be a very emotional end to the season and I am sure all the fans will want to push him onto and the team onto huge successes to round off what has been an incredible chapter in Liverpool's history
