00:02 - Hello, welcome to Good Week, Bad Week.
00:19 I'm Marina Lisht, Associate Editor of nationalworld.com
00:23 and I'm joined by Natalie Dixon this week,
00:25 Lifestyle Reporter.
00:27 And we're gonna make Good Week, Bad Week
00:29 focusing on the entertainment world this week
00:32 'cause there's a lot of things happening as always,
00:35 Natalie, in the entertainment world.
00:37 So let's kick off with who's had a good week.
00:41 And I would say actually this person's had a brilliant week
00:44 and we're talking specifically about Ray,
00:47 who's been, she's got seven nominations at the BRITs,
00:51 which is incredible.
00:53 And I think I'm correct in saying that that's sort of,
00:56 she's beaten a record, she's a record breaker
01:00 because six nominations last was held by,
01:05 I think I'm correct in saying the Gorillaz,
01:07 Craig David and Robbie Williams.
01:10 So it's brilliant news for Ray
01:13 and what are your thoughts on this, Natalie?
01:15 - Yeah, it's great to hear that, you know,
01:19 a female has broken the record
01:20 that's obviously been held by sort of men
01:23 and the Gorillaz are a all male group as well.
01:26 So I think it's a good one for the girls
01:29 to actually get a really good win.
01:32 And it's just quite surprising that, you know,
01:35 the BRITs has been going for many, many years now
01:37 for the fact that she's only just broken that record.
01:41 So yeah, it's crazy, but it's really, really good.
01:44 We're loving it.
01:47 - Yeah, most definitely.
01:48 It's all about girl power as always for us, Natalie,
01:51 isn't it?
01:51 And keeping on the BRITs,
01:54 because it is the hot topic at the moment
01:56 following the BRIT nominations,
01:58 we have to talk about the OG,
02:01 the OG when I'm saying the OG Kylie,
02:04 none other than Kylie Minogue,
02:07 because she has been nominated for international artists
02:11 at the BRIT Awards.
02:12 And she's also just won Billboard
02:15 Woman in Music Icon Award.
02:18 Now, I know Gen Z's cover your ears
02:22 because it's all about Kylie Jenner.
02:25 But for me, when I think of the name Kylie,
02:28 of course I do think of Kylie Jenner.
02:30 How can one not nowadays?
02:32 But I still think of Kylie, Kylie Minogue,
02:37 because would I say I'm a massive fan of Kylie Minogue?
02:42 Yeah, I probably would say I was a massive fan
02:43 of Kylie Minogue.
02:45 I absolutely adored her.
02:50 Well, probably in hindsight,
02:51 I would say my daughter sort of after Neighbours
02:54 had finished,
02:55 'cause I was a huge both Neighbours
02:56 and Home and Away fan.
02:58 That's what I love to do.
03:01 I didn't love to do my homework
03:02 when I got home from school.
03:04 I love to watch Neighbours and Home and Away.
03:06 And of course, who can forget Kylie Minogue
03:09 and Jason Donovan in Neighbours?
03:11 But I don't wanna focus too much on Neighbours,
03:13 although Natalie, I know you're gonna talk
03:15 in a little bit about how much you love Kylie Minogue
03:18 in Neighbours.
03:19 It's incredible how much she has achieved
03:22 and the longevity of her career,
03:24 'cause obviously Neighbours was a long time ago,
03:26 and she's been a very successful solo artist.
03:31 And I think it's great that she's been sort of lauded
03:34 for being at the Brits as an international artist.
03:39 And she so rightly deserves a Woman in Music Icon Award.
03:43 Natalie, are you a Kylie Minogue fan?
03:47 I love Kylie Minogue.
03:48 I just, yeah, from growing up
03:52 and watching Neighbours back in the day,
03:56 I loved her in that,
03:57 but I was a huge fan of her music
03:59 when I was about five years old,
04:01 just dancing around the living room.
04:03 And I loved all of that, all of her songs.
04:06 Kylie, they're all very catchy.
04:08 But I think she's also a record breaker as well,
04:11 not necessarily this year,
04:12 but she's got the record for, I think,
04:15 the most songs by a female
04:19 that have reached in the top 40 over five decades.
04:22 I think the only other person
04:24 that's kind of in that area is Madonna.
04:27 So I do think she's an absolute icon.
04:30 I think when she released the song "Padam Padam,"
04:34 I raised the question like,
04:35 "Oh my God, is Kylie, is this her comeback?"
04:37 And I think I was very quickly corrected by yourself
04:41 that Kylie has never gone away.
04:44 She's always been amazing,
04:45 and she has always been fantastic.
04:46 I love her, everything about her.
04:50 I love that she's also brought out
04:51 her Rose wine collection now.
04:54 I mean, if that's anything that girls love,
04:56 then not to stereotype too much,
04:58 but everyone loves a glass of Rose.
05:01 So yeah, I think that she should definitely,
05:04 definitely be an icon.
05:06 And if she doesn't win, I would be very, very surprised.
05:08 - So as we said, it's about, it's entertainment.
05:13 We're focusing on the entertainment industry this week.
05:16 We were just talking about the Brits just now.
05:18 So it is, we're in the sort of full throng
05:21 of awards season right now.
05:22 And obviously this week,
05:24 it was about the Oscar nominations,
05:26 which has created quite a stir.
05:29 And we're obviously talking about good week.
05:31 So I'm gonna move on to Ryan Gosling.
05:34 So the reason why I think Ryan Gosling's had a good week,
05:37 not only has he, lucky for him, got a nomination for Barbie,
05:41 but he came out with a statement.
05:43 And I'm sort of, you know,
05:45 I don't wanna say I'm proud of Ryan Gosling
05:50 because that would be patronizing.
05:51 And I'm sure Ryan Gosling potentially might not care
05:55 if I'm proud of him or not,
05:56 but I'm glad that he said something 'cause it is true,
05:59 that Barbie would be nothing without Greta Gerwig
06:02 and Barbie would be nothing without Barbie Margot Robbie.
06:06 So I think it has been a good week for him
06:09 in the fact that he acknowledged, obviously,
06:13 that without them,
06:14 he wouldn't have received an Oscar nomination.
06:16 So what do you think about Ryan Gosling
06:18 having a good week, Natalie?
06:20 - Yeah, I think it's been a great week for him.
06:23 The fact that he sort of stood up and said like,
06:25 you know, there is no Ken without Barbie.
06:29 And I think everyone was outraged by the fact
06:33 that Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig have been snubbed
06:36 and, you know, they directed the film.
06:38 I think Margot Robbie produced it,
06:40 helped produce it as well.
06:41 And it's just kind of like,
06:43 it was such a feminine girl powery sort of film.
06:47 The fact that they got snubbed was terrible,
06:49 but it just makes you realize how good of a person
06:53 Ryan Gosling is to step up and like say,
06:55 acknowledge their hard work in it.
06:58 Personally, I do think that if he does win the award,
07:02 he should turn it down
07:04 because I think that would make more of a stand
07:07 and more of a point.
07:08 But yeah, so I think we will see.
07:12 We'll see what he does.
07:13 What's his next move?
07:15 - Interesting point, Natalie.
07:16 I'm gonna put it to you though.
07:17 Would you turn down an Oscar?
07:19 Probably not.
07:23 (laughing)
07:26 Let's just keep on the Barbie and the Oscar theme
07:28 for a minute.
07:29 And we've been talking about good weeks
07:31 and unfortunately we do have to talk about bad weeks
07:34 as well.
07:35 And I think it has certainly been a bad week
07:40 for Greta Gerwig, but let's talk about Margot Robbie
07:43 because she has been snubbed at the Oscars.
07:46 And for many Barbie fans is called out,
07:49 you know, they're up in arms and they couldn't,
07:52 they can't believe it.
07:53 But I am being completely honest
07:55 and I've been honest all along when it comes to Barbie.
07:58 I'm not, never was a big Barbie fan
08:01 with dolls and everything growing up.
08:03 I sort of tolerated it, but I can't say,
08:06 I spent hours playing with Barbies, most certainly not.
08:09 I was in the garden playing football
08:11 and cricket with my brother, but let's move on.
08:13 Let's go back to Margot Robbie.
08:15 So it has been a bad week for her
08:19 and the fact that she hasn't been it,
08:21 but I would say, you know,
08:24 I did actually not watch the whole of Barbie.
08:27 Dare I say it.
08:28 I didn't love watching Barbie.
08:30 So for me, it's not such a shock.
08:33 And perhaps there were others, maybe she didn't deserve it.
08:36 Oh my God.
08:37 What do you think Natalie?
08:39 - Well, you're definitely gonna cause outrage
08:42 by saying that.
08:43 However, I will say that I hands up totally agree.
08:48 I don't think it was an Oscar worthy performance
08:51 compared to previous winners.
08:54 You know, it was a blockbuster movie.
08:57 It did fantastic.
08:59 It broke records and it was, you know,
09:02 fantastic in that sense of things.
09:05 But as for Oscar, you know,
09:08 it's the absolute best award you can ever get.
09:12 I don't think necessarily she,
09:15 can't say the words out loud.
09:17 I don't think she deserves an Oscar for Barbie
09:20 as much as I love Barbie and, you know, love the dolls,
09:25 you know, the new style book that's coming out.
09:28 It's already in my basket in Amazon.
09:30 I'm gonna buy that.
09:31 I love everything about it.
09:34 But yeah, I just,
09:35 it's unfortunate she didn't get a nomination,
09:39 but yeah, I don't think it was Oscar worthy.
09:43 Sorry, Margot.
09:44 - Well, Natalie, we've been very controversial this week
09:48 on Good Week, Bad Week,
09:50 and it's been great catching up with you.
09:51 So do join us next week where we'll be discussing
09:55 more celebrities and lots more.
