00:00 The Karnataka Congress has downplayed the development of Jagdish Shetter, quitting the
00:07 party to join the BJP.
00:09 The former Karnataka chief minister, who had quit the BJP to join the Congress ahead of
00:13 the state assembly polls last year, rejoined his old party on Thursday.
00:18 Shetter cited his long association with the BJP and said many of his well-wishers wanted
00:23 him to join the party.
00:25 On Jagdish Shetter rejoining BJP, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said, "Jagdish Shetter said
00:30 the BJP insulted him by not giving him a ticket.
00:33 Although we gave him a ticket, he lost the assembly election.
00:36 Still, we made him a member of the legislative council and treated him with respect.
00:41 I don't know about him rejoining the BJP.
00:43 He told me that he had been humiliated by the BJP and would not go back again."
00:48 Taking a swipe at the Karnataka BJP, state minister Priyank Khadge said, "I heard a statement
00:53 saying that he has rejoined BJP.
00:55 So it is very evident that in Karnataka, BJP lacks leadership.
00:59 They don't have faith in their current state of leadership.
01:01 Hence they need Shetter.
01:03 Him going to BJP must have a deeper meaning than just what it is.
01:07 Whatever it is, Congress is not dependent on anybody, dependent only on its local leaders,
01:12 workers.
01:13 It is not a big blow to the party as the media makes it look like."
01:16 "I heard a statement saying that he has rejoined BJP to strengthen Prime Minister Modi's prospects
01:27 of becoming a CM.
01:28 So it is very evident that in Karnataka, BJP lacks leadership.
01:34 They don't have faith in their current state of leadership.
01:38 Hence they need Mr. Shetter.
01:41 Mr. Shetter in his statement also has very clearly told, 'Congress has given me justice.
01:46 Congress has treated me respectfully in spite of BJP denying him a ticket as an ex-CM, in
01:52 spite of him losing an election on a Congress ticket.
01:55 Congress made him an MLC.
01:56 He is grateful for that is what he said.
01:59 So him going to BJP must have a deeper meaning than just what it is.
02:06 Whatever it is, Congress is not dependent on anybody.
02:09 The Congress is heavily dependent on its local leaders.
02:12 They are dependent on their workers.
02:15 We are a 135-year-old party and we have a long history and we can deal with it.
02:20 It's not a big blow to the party as the media makes it look like."
02:25 Salim Ahmed, the working president of Karnataka Congress Committee, expressed surprise over
02:30 the development, stating that they had not expected it.
02:34 He mentioned that when the BJP dumped Shetter, the Congress party provided him a ticket to
02:38 contest the polls.
02:40 Even after he lost, Congress made him the MLC.
02:42 They were even planning to give him an important post in the party.
02:46 He criticized the BJP, saying they used him.
02:48 He alleged they dumped him even though he was in the party for the last 40-45 years.
02:53 Until yesterday, he criticized the BJP.
02:56 Congress gave him all the respect, he added.
02:59 When BJP dumped Jagdish Shetter, the former Chief Minister, Congress Party gave him a
03:11 ticket.
03:12 After losing also, Congress made him the MLC.
03:20 They were also planning to give him some important post in the party also.
03:27 Yesterday we came to know that he has joined BJP.
03:34 But till now he has not sent any letter to the KPC President, Mr. D.K.
03:38 Shukumar.
03:39 Still we have not received.
03:41 Hopefully it might be mailed.
03:43 It was unexpected.
03:44 Mr. Jagdish Shetter criticized Bharatiya Janata Party, saying that they used me.
03:54 I was a worker of the BJP from last 40-45 years.
03:59 They did not do justice to me.
04:03 They dumped me.
04:04 That was the allegations by Mr. Jagdish Shetter.
04:07 And he was criticizing BJP.
04:10 After joining also, till yesterday he was criticizing BJP.
04:14 Suddenly I don't know what happened.
04:17 His joining again back BJP.
04:21 This is unexpected.
04:22 However, the BJP has welcomed Shetter to the party fold.
04:26 He had gone to Congress out of anger and not due to his heartfelt love for Congress.
04:30 He was very uncomfortable there.
04:32 He took this call at the right time.
04:34 It is good for him as well as the BJP.
04:36 Congress is on the downtrend.
04:37 And in Karnataka, we have seen that a lot of ministers have even refused to contest.
04:43 Congress doesn't have more than 50% good candidates to feed.
04:46 So we are going to win more than 25 out of the 28 seats this time.
04:49 Ghar wapsi was on the cards.
04:51 It has just started now.
04:53 More people are going to come.
04:54 More leaders are going to come.
04:55 Not only ghar wapsi, people from Congress have also shown interest in coming to BJP.
04:59 There will be a big political change in Karnataka.
05:02 Former Karnataka CM Basavraj Bommai said.
05:05 Mahesh Tenginkai, who defeated Shetter in the Hubali-Dharwar central constituency said,
05:11 we welcome the decision taken by the central leadership of the BJP.
05:15 Shetter joined the party in the presence of former Karnataka Chief Minister BSK Vyurpa,
05:19 Union Ministers Bhupendra Yadav and Rajiv Chandrasekhar, Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra
05:25 and its media head Anil Baluni.
05:28 He also met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the National Capital.
05:31 Shetter left the BJP after he was denied a ticket to contest the Assembly polls last year.
05:35 He is now in the process of getting his visa.
